Disgraced vile Scunthorpe United legend, Peter Beagrie. When you're in a relegation DO NOT sign a 40 year old who loves slagging you off in his main job as a TV pundit. There was a game against Hartlepool that was a relegation six pointer and he decided to try some Cruyff turns in our box and gave a penalty away. Then got subbed off and trudged at the slowest pace I have ever seen a player walk off. His final involvement for us was being boo'd off by the entire home support. Horrible horrible twat.

There has been a few including last season. Stand outs:

Exodus Geoghagon - Awful, signed on loan from Peterborough the fans turned on him in an unsavoury incident at Accrington.

Neil MacKenzie - Loaned from Notts County, played a horror game against Macc Town and a worse one at Bury... slated the fans and wasn't seen again. Thankfully.

Calvin Mac-Intosch - Dutch Right back lasted half hour last season against Oxford... thankfully we clawed the 2 goal deficit back that he had gifted them.

Regino Cicilia - Big Reg the Curacao crouch gained cult status... worked hard but just wasn't a footballer. Oddly his shitness helped him scored a handful of goals as defenders couldn't handle him. He didn't know what he was going to do let alone the opposition.

We spent nine years in the cesspit of non-league, and having nearly managed to get relegated a couple of times it's impossible to narrow it down to one from all that garbage.

The really awful ones that immediately spring to mind are Danny Webb, Chris Jones, Trevor Robinson, and some bloke who played 45 minutes for us on the wing on loan from Middlesbrough before getting hooked off for being awful and never seen again, but I can't remember his name.

Mackenzie played for us in a title winning League One side. Always thought he was decent enough. He was on Countdown as well

It wasn't Richard Hodgson was it?!

Mark Flashman hands down. Comedy backup goalkeeper who was a clear beneficiary of the nepotism shown to him by his Chairman dad, Stan.

Have been a few not in the squad because of who their parents were, and of those Luke Medley always stands out. Wasn't happy that a tribunal set a fee of £7,500 when he moved to us from Bradford. Was even more unhappy when I realised that we were paying Bradford rather then the other way around.

This could be a very long list so I'll single out one for abuse, er I mean analysis.

Tony Hackworth - a striker signed from Leeds for a six-figure fee on the strength of one sub appearance in the Champions League. And who was utterly terrible. In the early 2000s we had a string of strikers who were nowhere good enough for the League (Andy White, Steve Scoffham) and who were probably worse, but Hackworth was the most disappointing of them. One incident springs to mind in which he trod on the ball and fell over when presented with an easy tap-in. I seriously lost my rag with him, which I try not to do with our own players. I felt bad about it afterwards.

Apparently he scored a goal once, but it might have been a dream. Went on to play for Whitby and Scarborough in the NCEL, which was more his level.

Been so many over the years, particularly in the late 90s and early 2000s.

One player I always hated was Sean Canham. He played regularly for us in the first season down in the Conference and I've never seen a more immobile, slow, disinterested striker in my life. He could actually finish but had to rely on pinpoint service to score.

He went on to score bucket loads for Team Bath before joining Notts County. And predictably he scored a 90th minute equaliser against us....Now play in Australia I believe.

Honourable mentions go to: Neil Whitworth, Paul Read, Darren Roberts, Lee Zabek, Les Afful, Colin Alcide, Jake Edwards, Graeme Power....Those weren't the days.

Ha ha Lee Zabek. He was absolutely terrible. I remember my mate being so exasperated as yet another slow, crap winger went past him that he just rolled his eyes and fucked off to the pub.

Fraser McClachlan

We have had some shit in the conference years but young Fraser was pre doomsday relegation and is hand on heart the worst professional footballer or footballer I have ever seen anywhere ever.

Some are bad and fade away but Fraser will travel in my mind with me to my grave.

Back when we were decent if ever we had a really shit player, like proper dogturd, we would usually just give them to Scunny to help them improve their team.

Now it's the other way round.

Like Jamie Forrester who was absolute class. Cheers for him. Neil Woods wasn't so great and neither was Mike Jeffrey

Jamie Forrester was great for us, too.

In terms of the worst, the list is far too long. We did have a couple of good 'Best' and 'Worst' Lincoln XI threads on Vitals but they disappeared somewhere.

As for the worst. In 1980 we bought David Peach from Southampton for a, then, club record of £150,000. He was captain of England B team.

Got beat 6-2 by Millwall in his first game and was universally despised ever since.

Jason Drysdale, another big money signing, was a fucking disaster. Shaun Close - possibly the worst striker I've seen play for us.

In the Prem we signed a coked-up Frank McAvinney. Fortunately, most of the times I was bladdered at games so the general shiteness of many players went unnoticed in a beery fog.

Why does everyone hate on Palmer? I mean he's not very good like but no where near the worst about.
He was very good for us. If ever I stick his name about it's purely tongue in cheek.

Alex Jeannin - absolutely abysmal.
Somehow after leaving us he managed to play 1 professional game for Bristol Rovers (then they asked him to leave.) Then staggeringly he went on to play for Hereford, Oxford and Mansfield.

Lee Sharp - played 4 games for us.
To say his legs had gone would be unfair to the rest of his body. Not only had his legs gone but so too had his belly and his cognitive faculties. His passing was so appalling that you could only assume his pre-match warm up routine involved spending 12 rounds in an illegal bare knuckle boxing ring with Steve Flack.

Jonathon Fortune - played 5 games for us.
Brought in an a pay-as-you-play contract to help us avoid relegation. Scored an own goal on his debut and I think that was his only touch. Literally incompetent.

Forrester was hard-working but luckless for us. He'd long passed his best by then though, I think we were his last League club.

I missed an obvious one - Guy Branston. He played half a game, kicked the ball up in the air a couple of times, nearly got sent off, was substituted at half time and was "injured" for the rest of his loan spell before being sent back at the earliest opportunity. I thought he'd do a job for us too.

Serge Makofo's got to be up there!

Who was is that Neil Woods thought he was?
Despite Serge's complete inability at football, he is nowhere near the worst I've seen play for us- always put the effort in and had a couple of storming games.

From what I remember, Nick Colgan was absolute garbage. Tommy Forecast also 'happened' in the same season.

Richard Brodie is the worst person I've seen play for us, as Beagrie was before my time.

Anthony Straker played 45 minutes against Bognor Regis and was never seen again.
