Dave Speedie was the first player I remember loving for us as a kid. Maybe because his name was fun to chant. But he was an integral part of us getting to the Premier League, especially with his performances against Derby County in the play-offs.

He was one of those players that you either loved or hated. We've had a few of them over the years.

The one and only Gerry Gow. I have never seen a more talented but hard as nails midfielder as this man. In those days you were allowed to be 'hard' but by god he could put in a tackle 70's style.
He was simply awesome!

Gerry was the main man but my first season was the year we were promoted to the top flight so all of these were superheroes to a little me. Paul Cheesley would have played for England if Peter 'bastard' Shilton hadn't wrecked his knee in our 2nd game in Division 1. He was a beast of a centre forward and never played again.

Zamora was my first Albion hero, but that was a few years later. It really wasn't a time to be idolising anyone at the club in the late 90s.

Tried to find his saves he made away at Birmingham on YouTube with no joy.

One of the best shot stoppers I have seen, was just unfortunate that Shay Given was around at the same time, should have had a lot more Rep of Ireland caps.

Mine is without doubt Scott Murray. Had some cracking memories watching him as a nipper, notably for being involved in the chaotic PO semi down at The Gate against Hartlepool in one of my first ever games. It was absolute carnage.

Another great memory of Scott was that cup tie against Middlesbrough again at our place, he scored a quality goal that day as well. Absolutely love the guy, he's now our kitman and he's comedy gold on social media.

Good shout but for me, his finest moment was at Tinnion park when he goaded the entire Bob bank. This was brilliant even though it was mental trying to get out of the away end!

I know I said in a previous post I said Bully, but Kevin Muscat was another (more post-Bully). Whatever you make of him, he was driven and he didn't give a fuck who you were. Gave 110% every week.

Yeah, but in the late 70's he and Stevie Phillips were a devastating partnership for Brentford where he bullied defenders for 90 minutes and Phillips scored the goals. It was a real blow when Big Jack tempted him up north. I remember going to a Palace game in the early 80's just to see him again, but by then he was in decline. Still a hero.

Would have been David Seal or Scott Murray for me. Missed Seeal at City, but used to see him regularly at Mangotsfield where he was incredible for them (albeit a far lower level)
