It's the first saturday without football (I'm ignoring the play-offs in the hope they'll go away), and I'm already looking to next season.

With most teams having released their retained lists already, how do you see your summer transfer activity panning out? Where do you need improvement? Who's inevitably going to get sold on, and who do you wish you could drive to their next club? Try to be REASONABLY realistic.

For us, Dack will be off, joining the released Dickenson, McGlashan, Loft and Glenn Morris. John Egan will also go but we'll get something in return for him through tribunal. I think the guys we've offered contracts to will stay (other than Egan).

We only have 4 defenders at the club, so we need a few more in there, preferably 2 centre backs and a versatile full back. Can see us going back in for El-Abd and Oshilaja as the centre backs, and we've been linked with left back George McLennan of Cheltenham. I'd also like us to try and bring back Harry Lennon from Charlton.

In the middle, we were close to signing Mark Byrne from Newport in January, so I'd imagine we'd be back in for him, plus a couple I think would add a certain something in an attacking sense to replace Dack. We will have a few quid to spend so we could afford a couple of small purchases.

Up front, we have 3 signed on, but we need at least one more, preferably a strong target man as none of the others can really do it. Step forward John Akinde.

So with all that in mind, my pick for our squad next season would look something like this:

Players in bold are new signings
Players in italics are youngsters

GK: Nelson, Hadler
DEF: Jackson, Ehmer, Garmston, M Dickenson, Lennon, Oshilaja, El-Abd, McLennan
MID: Hessenthaler, Osadebe, Wright, Morris, List, Oldaker, Wagstaff, McGeehan, Byrne
FOR: McDonald, Norris, Donnelly, Akinde

Did Lennon impress at your place?

A very real chance he'll be starting regularly for us next season I would imagine.

Yeah thought he was excellent. He did join us when we were still playing well back in the autumn though. Would love him back.

Depends what league we are in but if in League 1 I'd expect us to release around 6 players and then strengthen our midfield and attacking options along with a new central defender. I'm assuming Burke and Cullen aren't back. I'd expect we'll be good bets for automatic promotion.

Depends if our ex manager comes back to steal anyone or not. Suspect he will try and get JJOT and possibly Adam Smith, expect Smith to go higher though.

We don't really have anyone out of contract that needs keeping, apart from Danny Rose.

We need a complete overhaul really. Would Like George Moncur as we need a new CAM. Jay Simpson up top would be good. Need a CB and probably a left back, think we'll get Long from Burnley in CB not sure about the LB. and we need lots of new wingers, no idea who we could get in though, maybe George Williams again? I'd be well happy with that.

No one vitally important OOC, however would love to retain Chris Maguire. Lots of flexibility and quality going forward anyway, however we are missing a ruthless centre forward. A Bradshaw, Winnall, Gregory etc would get hatfuls in our team; however I've no idea where we're going to find one. Overall, our front 6 is as good as I've seen at our place; but we'll probably need that last piece of the attacking jigsaw.

Back five is more concerning. Both goalkeepers this season weren't up to it, we don't have a right back, our left back should be ok but nothing more. Centre backs are fine at least!

Should be aiming for a starting XI next season of ... New GK; New RB, Dunkley, Wright, Skarz; MacDonald, Lundstram, Sercombe, O'Dowda; Roofe, New ST ... whilst retaining the likes of Hylton, Maguire and Mullins as cover.

Good to hear. He made a few appearances for us in the Championship after he returned and despite scoring a couple of goals, really wasn't convinced by him. He's contracted until 2018 so can't see him moving on so as I say, wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a regular next season for us.

So, in respect of your actual question in the op, I have absolutely no idea. I predict there will be a mass exodus (not exactly a bad thing as we need improvements all over the field) but with the nutjobs running things and no manager, literally anything can happen this pre-season.

I can see Charlton doing a Blackpool and only have 8 players come start of the season. Either that or 50 total wasters from various leagues you've never heard of.

Sawyers is off to Brentford or someone similar in the Championship.
Demetriou will want a move down south as he has been commuting from London.
Bradshaw will be bought by a Championship club.
Rico Henry will probably be bought by a Premier League club.

With us, it's the defence where we need to make signings. And a lot depends on whether Josh Lillis, Ashley Eastham and Olly Lancashire sign their new deals, and whether Niall Canavan accepts our contract offer.

If none of them sign, we're looking at three centre backs and a goalie. Aaron Martin from Cov would be nice, Tom Aldred from Blackpool is a possibility, or maybe look to borrow youngster Axel Tuanzebe from Man Utd ( he's a local lad). The goalie - Frank Fielding seems to be out of favour at Bristol City, but may be beyond our budget.

We've probably got room for one more in midfield. Tommy Rowe from Wolves would be nice, or do Wigan still want David Perkins after promotion??

Up front, we probably have a full compliment, although there are rumours linking us with a young lad from Wrexham called Kayden Jackson. There's also a very promising youngster at Wolves called Conor Ronan, who might be available for a loan back to us if they want him to get first team experience somewhere (they signed him from our youth programme).

It'll be interesting.

Callum Elder should come back, hopefully permanently, from Leicester. Outstanding LB for this level, and that's one big gap plugged.

Need better defensive cover. Smith, Baldwin, Bostwick, Elder is a very good back line at this level, however, any of them gets injured or suspended, we have no depth. Ricardo Santos should be nowhere near a football league club so he is not an option. We have no real backup RB or LB, and Santos is the option at CB so work to do there.

I think midfield we're okay. We need an experienced head in there though. We've always had success with one. I'm talking a Micah Hyde/Dean Keates who helps pulls our Young side through. We didn't have it this season and its hurt us. Keeping Maddison is going to be huge and the return of Jermaine Anderson will be like a new signing.

In attack we have enough. Angol did well and will only get better. Coulthirst & Williams will be fine with a pre-season. Tom Nichols will finally get a real chance too, and we have Luke James returning who hopefully will kick on now.

Think we need a few to compete at this level. 2 new centre halves are needed in my opinion, preferably blessed with pace. A midfield bruiser to cover (or replace:sad:) O'Toole, an attacking midfielder and a striker (2 if John Marquis doesn't sign a deal).

If Danny Rose doesn't sign a deal due to a Wilder leaving we'd need another centre midfielder.

Most importantly we need to hold onto O'Toole, Smith and Holmes. Sadly I can't see us holding on to all three, if any, although we'd get good money.

We are going to get ripped apart, I'm thoroughly scared for everything about next season. I suspect we will be one of those teams that misses out in the play-offs then struggles near the bottom. Swindon twice and Tranmere in the last 5 or so years being the perfect example.

Kayden Jackson is an interesting one. He won our Samsung win a professional contract competition, played one game, got released and seems to have found his feet with Wrexham. Will be interesting if a league 1 side take a punt on him.

Fairly sure he will pal, won't get another deal here and unless Gillingham rekindle their interest I don't see anyone else in front of you in the queue.

Should have been a bit clearer, if he gets offered one. Now Wilder has gone it may change things on that front, hope not though, think he'll develop into a decent player

We don't really need to do much as long as we don't lose anyone.

We have 21 players tied to contracts and our starting 11 will be the exact same as one that ended last season I think. Of course if we do lose Madden that money would hopefully be reinvested in buying another striker as we currently only have 3 more. We have Tom Hopper who's a fantastic player but is more of a provider than a goalscorer, Kyle Wootton who is a young striker who is pretty solid but not ready to take that amount of pressure on and Kevin Van Veen who is just a strange one. I imagine that we will be in for Tommy Rowe or Jim O'Brien due to them both spending loan spells at us last season, not sure if we'll get either though. We do probably need back up for our wingers and perhaps a defensive utility man.

I will piggyback Fielding from Bristol to Rochdale whilst having my nob cheese-grated to get rid of him.

We will lose all our 'good' players this summer and replace it with shite. We will then get relegated. Calling it now.

That good, eh?

Sounds like a typical Dale signing of recent years. Unloved at his current club, but a fine player if given tlc and puts the effort in for us. See McDermott, Mendez-Laing, Andrew, Canavan (if he signs), possibly Eastham and Henderson as well...:-)

You had him on loan before didn't you? Our fanbase generally like him; he's a nice bloke, but a poor keeper. I'll elaborate further if you or another team sign him - we've been linked with a keeper from Rangers in the last few days as well so I wouldn't rule it out.

Burton Albion have just released Robbie Weir, Central Midfielder. He would do a cracking job at League One - as he did for us. I'd expect quite a few clubs to go for him. Surprised he wasn't given a crack at the Championship.

Lot of players out of contract main one being Jimmy Ryan who I suspect is one of a few that would interest L1 clubs, possibly an improving Amarii Bell also.

Other than that I doubt there will be takers for anyone else from this division out of Shola Ameobi, Eggert Jonsson, Stephen Jordan, Antoni Sarcevic and Ashley Hunter, all out of contract. Nathan Pond also but he will probably resign if offered a deal, which you would think he would.

Bit slow on the release list front but then again word was Steven Pressley was leaving us but nothing official, club pretty quiet overall on everything.

Big deal for us could be if Vardy moves on as weve a big kick back resting on that.

Would be surprised if we weren't sniffing, think Appleton's a fan. That said we're set with Sercombe and Lundstram.

Trevor Carson to Oxford United could be concluded soon. Best keeper I've seen at our place in a while.

We'll not change too much. Archer may be off to the Premier League. Maybe Gregory will attract interest if he continues where he left off against Bradford. I can't see anyone coming in for Thompson, O'Brien, Romeo or Onyedinma yet, while Steve Morison is here for another year.

If we stay down, I imagine we'll sign Chris Taylor permanently from Blackburn and maybe someone like Billy Knott or Tommy Rowe to fill the squad out a bit, as we only really need to focus on developing the current group further. If we go up, well... I suppose it depends on how much faith Harris has in this squad. Archer would smash it. I think Morison, Thompson and Romeo would be fine (the latter two will ultimately thrive at that level, imo). Question marks about Beevers, Webster and Gregory, but then they'd be playing in a side with momentum and confidence so might well adapt a whole lot better than last time. I think another year at this level would definitely benefit us, but you can never be so arrogant to turn promotion down: there are no certainties in football.
