You're safe. Maybe 1 more point to make absolutely sure, but I can't see Cheltenham making up 8 points on you even if you lose all your remaining games.

The absolute best I can see for us is probably 8 points, with wins at home to Cambridge and @Wimbledon on the final day, draws v Stevenage and @Wycombe and losses v Shrews and @Northampton. That would get us to 45 which I still don't see being enough, so even with the best case scenario we're still goners.

I don't cheltenham will, but what about 23rd?
Must be annoying for hartlepool to go on such a run and be back in the relegation zone.

Our good run took us a point clear of relegation and our well earned point away at a top 7 side kept that gap, hardly a dissapointment!

Would you rather have a season where you were complete crap for the first 35 games and bottom of the league, but then storm out of the relegation zone to safety on lets say 47 points.. Or would you rather spread the form out evenly over the season and end up on the same points tally?

I know which one sounds more exciting!

We're in this, I'm going to sound like that Carlisle fan but people aren't realise how hopeless we are. We got battered by fucking York at home which is bad enough without mentioning they were down to 10 men for over an hour including injury time, and still outplayed us.That was our chance to put ourselves safe with a win, a point wouldn't have been as bad. But we just capitulated and now we have no confidence going into this weekend where we play Southend (A), Shrewsbury (H) and Plymouth (A) where we're already on track for 0 points.

The only reason we're adrift is because the teams below us luckily didn't pick up points when we lost, but that isn't going to continue. We've lost 2 points of our gap in the 2 games, continue that and we'll be in the bottom two on the last day. It's as simple as we can't defend and we can't score, you only have to look at the stats to know that. IMO Murray is far too loyal to certain players, Clements has played every minute under him yet has zero assists and goals and he continues to play, and Oliver and Kee who never look like scoring yet never gives Bingham a sniff who's clearly our only threat.

Look, I know you all want to be the worst so let's just say you're all shit. None of you would be still embroiled in this now if you were half decent. It could go any way because I don't see anything from Cheltenham, Carlisle, Tranmere, York and Cambridge that suggests they're going to ease away. Hartlepool have probably gained enough confidence of late to survive now.

I actually think Cheltenham's next 3 fixtures are winnable. Stevenage are jekyll and hyde, Wycombe at home aren't as good as Wycombe away plus some nerves may kick in and Cambridge are throwing their league position away. If they want any chance of survival, they need 6 points from them.
We won't go down, we are terrible at home but it's the away form that will keep us up, someone stated the other day we have actually scored more goals away from home than any

I know posters seem to think getting beaten by us at home is a disgrace and yes we were down to 10 men, but we are actually a very decent away team. Only Wycombe have actually scored more away goals than us in the entire league believe it or not, 34 with us second on 29.

It didn't seem exciting when we were dross week in week out, there's been a battle going on at the bottom all season and we have only just joined it! Always better to finish strong and take that into next season, look at Wycombe!

Or sadly look how that went for us.

It's daft as sides like us and Cambridge were "safe" 3 games ago. Even though it would take a ridiculous turn of results for us to go down im not at all confident.

We must not lose to tranmere at home in a few weeks

I think from York onwards everyone will be easily safe, realistically they only need a win or so each, and I can't see any of them not winning again this season.

Cheltenham are on the verge of the drop now, can't see them escaping.

So the final spot is going to be one of Tranmere, Hartlepool or Carlisle. I think it will be Tranmere as they have a difficult run in.

Don't write anyone off just yet, look how we were fixed before kick off on the last day of last season, i had resigned myself to be relegated so miracles in football do happen, partly that and mansfield winning at Bristol Rovers of course. :woo:

Tranmeres "difficult" run in includes home to Luton on Monday , not looking as difficult as it did a few weeks ago

Tranmere won't go down, they were apparently unlucky not to take 3 points yesterday against a playoff chasing team. They'll beat Luton and then push on. Green has made a difference for them.

Hartlepool are the form team in the league. No chance they'll go down. They'll secure safety before they visit Brunton Park on the last day.

Cheltenham and Carlisle are clearly the 2 worst teams in this league. It's a case of what order they'll finish. I'm still sticking with my prediction that we'll finish bottom, but unless Cheltenham win a game soon then it's looking likely I'll be proved wrong. I still don't think we have the quality, belief or form to win another game this season. I'm predicting 1 more point for us. Whether Cheltenham can claw that gap back I don't know.

I'm getting a bad feeling that it'll be us after yesterday, but it'll all be down to how we bounce back on Monday. As i've said previously, it's a very similair match to the one against Oldham last year where we lost 1-0 with a whimper, and if that happens again I don't see much hope for us. We know Curle isn't a very good manager but I hope he pulls something out the bag. The good news is that we have our first choice defence back (Troy/O'Hanlon) which we had before the shocking Oxford game, so we can focus a bit more on attack against the joint worst defence in the league.

You think one more point ALL season ?
Come on that's not going to happen.

After 9 games Carlisle had 3 points and were 4 points behind Hartlepool..

Since Mansfield away they have picked up 39 points in 31 games.. hardly relegation form..

I think some Carlisle fans are forgetting where they were after 9 games.

And by the way.. 39 points by game 31 this season would have seen you in 14th

Yeah. We were that bad yesterday and used up all our luck in getting that point. I think we'll lose on Monday at accrington, then we'll pick up a point against Dagenham next weekend. After that our last 4 games are horrendous, 3 against top 8 teams (we've lost every single game under Curle against the top 8) and then Hartlepool on the last day.

Over the last couple of months we've got worse. This is the worst Carlisle United team I've ever seen and I've seen some bad ones.

Who was your manager when you thumped us earlier this season?

Curle
Start of his reign, 3-0 away win at Hartlepool, then 3-0 home wins against you and Tranmere.
Good times....

6 points from the last six games and only two defeats, the stats don't suggest you will lose five of the next six regardless. Accy in poor form, not won in what the last six at least ? Can see at least a point there.

We didn't beat Tranmere 3-0. Think it was close, 2-1 or 1-0 and it was the week before Hartlepool away.

Carlisle beat us 1-0.
As Belmont said on the Luton thread, the fact that we play them next after they've lost 7 on the bounce means the Hatters will end that losing streak in Birkenhead. We're more likely to win at Southend, the following game, but I hold out little hope for that.

Ah yeah, remember now. We were great at the start of his reign though, albeit against poor teams at the time.

So with Cheltenham basically down, who goes down with them?

Cambridge or tranmere look good candidates right now, but nobody is safe, we certainly aren't
