It’s honestly nothing, just a few kids embarrassing themselves. These articles are hilarious though.

I hope the reporters never have to cover an Oxford - Swindon game!

It's a brave man who walks the tough east side of Cheltenham Spa alone at night with an obviously Five Valleys accent.
To be fair, there are a couple of places in Cheltenham I wouldn't want to get stuck in, but fuck me it's hardly Green Street is it.

As Chris said, it's kids who make it something it's not. It's bloody depressing.

Its like the talk sport and paper articles of the "trouble" after Vale and Exeter both pitch invaded at their ground to celebrate our play offs/their promotion... bar the odd idiot throwing a plastic bottle most of us were shaking hands and congratulating each other and were talking about what classy fans each other had on the day!

This sounds increasingly like the Rome derby or River-Boca the more you hear about it from Stroud. Be having to move it to an early midweek kickoff at this rate if that’s the behaviour you get from Cheltenham’s ultras.
The Cheltenham Ultras are the only set of away supporters at TNL to be returned back to their own ground under police escort in a hired police bus [paddy wagon].
During the day they had created chaos in Stroud town centre, vandalised the away marquee and were clearly looking for trouble throughout match.
Sad because they are know as decent fans by other clubs, but they certainly have a chip on their shoulder towards FGR. Possibly because for around 30 years they were sole Gloucestershire reps in Football League and then along came better funded FGR to challenge that position.

Seriously, stop it. We were promoted in 1999. That was 23 years ago. We were relegated in 2015 after 16 years, and have been back since 2016, so that makes 22 years in the Football League. FGR were promoted in 2017, that's 5 years, so 17 years that we were the only Football League team in Gloucestershire.

How in God's name did we have nearly 30 years in the Football League before FGR "challenged that position"?

What's funnier, is those kids are probably all under 20 as well!!

Just give it a rest. Your bullshit is bloody tedious. I'm sorry if your friends were attacked, I don't wish to see any violence at football, it's completely unnecessary. It's not like the FGR idiots are completely innocent of course, given what's happened in Cheltenham on the last time you visited.

You spouting bollocks all the time trying to stoke up something that, frankly shouldn't even be there, really doesn't help things.

That was comical and completely unnecessary, yes they have a few kids that play up a bit at times (as do we) but the vast majority are typical Glos football people, about as far away from ultras as you’re gonna get. it’s hardly the old firm. When they did the park and ride from Renishaws a number of FGR and Cheltenham fans sat together on the bus.

Please stop trying to make this something that it really isn’t, it’s embarrassing.

And please stop sabotaging this thread with constant FGR v Cheltenham stuff. Pretty sure no one else wants to read it, this is the league 1 general chat thread so if you must start a Glos football thread or something.

Hang on now, I offered a fair assessment on FGR v Cheltenham in an earlier post and you picked up one small error and made a big issue of it.
You have said that you will block me, so please do that because it's getting tedious with you going ballistic every time I mention your team, whether it be good or bad.

We've finally got into the 21st century and brought in electronic ticketing for next season. Our season tickets are now cards with a QR code on them.

Cue a number of people receiving theirs today and posting them on social media without blocking out said QR codes :ffs::ffs:

It’s all fine until the stadium Wi-Fi goes down and the scanners become unusable as happened a few times early on last season at VP when we brought it in. In fairness it’s not just Cheltenham who’ve been behind the times, it was only late last season we finally brought in contactless payment in the stadium.

Think we've had them for around 5 years now. So much easier. I have my season ticket saved in my google pay account and have never had a single issue with it from day 1!

I think last season was our first contactless season as well.

Our season tickets last season were basically the match tickets all printed off in one go and put into an envelope. When I collected them for myself and 6 other members of my family I had 161 match tickets on me. Made it easier to pass them around though when I couldn't make a game.

Are you with Ticketmaster or Eventbrite?

I'm not sure we do cash other than in the supporters bar outside the ground now. Not surprisingly, our turnstile clicks and takings went up when we went cashless as well - not that I'm suggesting anything untoward was going on in previous years...

I don't do it, but we can order and pay for food/drink from an app to collect either when we get into the stadium and/or half time rather than have to queue for it.

We're using a company called Kaizen Ticketing Solutions, so everything is done through the club's website.
Ours is through the official site as well rather than going through Ticket Master's. The first company we used was Eventbrite and it was their first foray into sports and was a bit clunky, albeit it did the job. Ticket Master much, much better, so easy.

I most likely won't have to use it for single match tickets (I'm not going to the Exeter game in the League cup, and it's unlikely I'll attend any Papa Johns games) but it was very easy to use when sorting my season ticket and those of the 6 other people I go to games with (for some reason I get roped into sorting them).

One good bit of news for everyone that Trevor Kettle has now retired. Not sure how often he’d do L1 games but am beyond happy he will no longer be ruining a Saturday for some poor unsuspecting team with his whole look at me routine when refereeing.

He did good by us last season in fairness! Season before he was awful at Cambridge, gave them a pen that never was and us one that was out the area… and of course the FGR game the season before that!

Some Bristol Rovers fans might be banned from the first 2 home games as they are potentially going to be forced to have a reduced capacity..

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-rovers-mem-reduced-capacity-7347344.amp

Guess they might ask if other teams will be punished for their pitch invasions?

I don't think this will impact others to be honest as from what that article says its a local one imposed by the SAG. If it was an FA imposed one then clubs like ourselves and Notts Forest will probably be looking on with some concern too given what happened there.

I do think however that perhaps there needs to be stronger punishments brought in for pitch invasions in general though. It is getting a bit ridiculous and maybe points deductions for clubs will be the way to go.

Yes - and would they be strong enough to punish a bigger club ?

Maybe the local authority have been worried about fans behaviour for a while too .

Reading it more sounds like safety and security issues as the Mem is quite a small and old fashioned ground isn’t it? (no offence !!)

This may be a shock but you can celebrate perfectly fine without needing to go on the pitch. Teams manage it perfectly fine in cup or playoff finals at Wembley.

There’s been too many instances where people are getting into it with opposition players or fans so don’t be surprised if it keeps happening people start arguing in favour of fences.

The fences will never come back......And you are right with getting in players faces especially if the Billy Sharp incident is repeated,
We have done it many times including at vale. Confined to behind the goal and just celebrate with our own players
Not the clubs fault a idiot or two take it too far

I've genuinely never seen the fascination with pitch invasions. You all run on the pitch, look like a bunch of idiots, then what? Slowly trudge off.

Our last game of the season saw us relegated and Rotherham promoted, both of which depended on the last day result. Both sets of fans (although fewer of ours obviously) invaded the pitch. There was a little bit of handbags and the police released photos of about 20 people they’d like to speak to a couple of weeks back.

Recipe for disaster if it happened between two bigger better supported clubs.

Don’t know what the answer is though.
