I think every fan hates 1 club that they wouldn’t be able to rationally explain why. Mines Newport.
mine is whichever hobby club is in the league we are in.... i might be spoilt for choice next season... FGR, Salford and maybe Harrogate.

Where is the option to relegate Tranmere to the National League because Palios is such a tit?
If the NL play offs happen will it be a proper two legged semi and final or the tinpot shit they introduced last year or whenever again?

Talks about working with the EFL to find 'the best solution for the football pyramid' whilst at the same time threatening legal action which could delay next season and cause a shit load more problems for other clubs. The best solution for the football pyramid is for him to accept the decision and move on.
In a similar situation would Dale Vince do any different? He’s wealthier than the Palioi, so maybe he could afford to cover the £1 million + loss consequence of our demotion, but our owners can’t. Whether the matter goes to court is debatable, my best guess would be not.

Back on topic, I think the NL ought to adopt the same arrangements from promotion as the EFL so 1 team promoted by PPG, is that Barrow? The rest to compete for promotion through play-offs. As long as it’s not Boreham Wood, don’t mind who comes up.

yep it's us - plus one of Notts, Yeovil/Barnet, Harrogate or Boreham Wood/Halifax

I didn’t think palios had done anything wrong until he threatened legal action, whereas I had no sympathy with Peterborough and couldn’t buy into their argument I did have sympathy for tranmere and could see their argument. I imagine most chairman would have done the same

Regarding vince it’s pretty obvious, FGR are his puppet pub team to gain exposure for his business which he’s done particularly well out of.

Pub team with a proud 130 year history who were a long established Conference club that had been full time for several seasons and had built a new ground all long before Vince came in.

Vince has obviously invested to get us in the league and used the club as a marketing/publicity vehicle but he certainly didn't invent the club or build it up from nothing.

Genuine question Chris - how close were FGR to admin and possible liquidation if Vince didn't invest?

I know the plan was to go back to part-time before he did and there were some genuine concerns.

Depends who you talk to. We had a £250k hole to plug thanks to an oversight on the VAT due on the gym I believe which was the primary concern. Vince reckons we could have gone under, Colin Peake and others on the board at the time reckon we could have survived but only with major cutbacks. We were running with a full time/part time mix at the start of 10-11 but quickly shelved that idea. The link at the time with Hartpury was useful in helping maintain some squad depth.

That being said the keep the green alive campaign didn't even raise half of the amount we needed so it was pretty clear investment was needed. Admin was far more likely then liquidation though, The club fully owned the ground and hadn't defaulted any wages or suppliers.

History is great, and it’s fantastic you’ve got it.

Doesn’t stop you being a bankrolled pub team. Not having a go, just stating the facts.

Can't argue with that.

Would say that we aren't exactly the only bankrolled club in the EFL though tbf.

We also seem to have been consistently cutting back over the last couple of years, young squad last year and have now released a number of our bigger earners. We will probably make one 'statement signing' though just for Vince's ego, probably from Cheltenham. Last years was Kevin Dawson. That went well....

Chris is right, it depends on who you listen to...I always thought it was £25k owed to the Inland Revenue that nearly did for us. It was a really cold winter and we went several weeks without a home game, hence little or no income, and I can remember helping roll out frost covers to protect the pitch and give us a chance of hosting games.

Well the 5pm deadline for votes to be in has passed... and it's starting to look like the NL are sticking with their plan of not announcing anything until Thursday Morning....
FFS - even using an Abacus they should have the results by now though....

You're right, the £250k was the target sum to raise to help safe guard the club. It was actually a £45k tax liability. In any case, times were tough.

Aye, it’s like staying Mansfield are a perennial lower league team as we are. Apart from 5 ghastly years in the conference

Now chipmunk isn’t a trespasser.

The right decision, but boy are they lucky! They looked like they were on their way to a big bottle job. Coronavirus got them promotion.

You won't be pleased with having them here when you have to do a cold, foggy, Tuesday night in the middle of November.

So do barrow and Carlisle become some form of rivalry now?

If someone had said 5 years ago Bolton vs barrow would have been a league fixture you’d get decent odds!

Barrow will probably expect to win that one as well given the state Bolton are in.

Barrow will be the only 2 games we play that I’ll expect 3 points from.

Not initially at least, I mean we haven't played each other competitively since the 60s and Barrow is still pretty far from Carlisle. I've only been twice in my life and had to Google it but it's an hour and a half drive from here.

We do share a radio station though and have exchanged many players and managers over the years so I'm sure it will be looked upon by both sets of fans as a local fixture of significant interest.

We have removed the bit on our twitter profile that says 'only league team in Cumbria'.

They will, 100%. I’ve been twice for preseason friendly games and both times their fans have waited outside the away end and at the train station for a fight. If restrictions are lifted by then and we can take a full away crowd, they’ll be in their element. Holker Street will become Green Street.

First post within this forum I think. Hopefully it clears with that last ratification hurdle.

I remember about 12 years ago being at the Reebok with my Dad to witness Bolton beat Atletico Madrid in the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup. Meanwhile, we were most likely in our annual struggle against relegation into the Conference North. How times change.

Carlisle have to get past the Barrow vs Tranmere Cup rivalry first.

Thinking about it, I'm not sure whether this is a good or bad time to come up for them. I mean, yeah, it's a promotion but with everything going on it's not ideal.
