I think we may stay up due to being able to grind out wins with defensive solidarity. That being said if we dont make several additions in forward positions over the remainder of the window then its another one season wonder in League 1 for us sadly.

I don’t see where the goals come from at the moment Jord, same forward players as last year and the goals dried up towards the end of the season.

I base our position on JB's ability to conjour up a few above average loan signings which he does have a good track record of and wishful thinking....in truth we could end anywhere between 1st and 24th....as can every team in our league....as I said haven't got a clue :err:

Yeah I have a fair idea who will be at the top end, but the rest of us will be hard to predict. Far easier to predict the top than bottom imo

The 'bigger' clubs should be filling the promotion and play off places but we all know there's no guarantee! There are less big clubs so some of the league 1 'average' clubs will be in the mix this year! I'm an eternal optimist so with some quality additions, players playing to and above their level and luck anything is possible!

Can see Bristol and Lincoln having a cheeky dash at the playoffs. Not sure about Exeter...I'd be hoping we'd finish above them. Also hopeful of finishing above Cheltenham, Northampton and Carlisle but no idea about the rest. We'll have enough I think to be out of the danger zone but we'll have a number of 1-0s that could go either way. Currently nowhere near enough goals unless some of the new lads chip in with a few more or we make a couple of decent signings.

It's so difficult to predict this year....teams like Burton and Stevenage have made some half decent signings that could see them go well. Usual suspects like Derby, Bolton, Portsmouth and Barnsley you would think will be up there but one of those teams are bound to have a shitter. Blackpool, Charlton or Peterborough or even Oxford could take their place.

Not convinced by Wycombe. Even though they beat us comfortably at Vale, I thought they were one of the poorer teams and we should have beaten them at their place. Shrewsbury look a bit of a basket case.

It's there for an unfancied team to make the top 6 this next season.

Peterborough selling off all their good players and signing unknown youngsters. I think they'll be mid table this season.

It’s going to be a bit of a challenge for Peterborough come to think of it. The way last season ended there has to be some kind of mental scars from that kind of loss. Doesn’t look like Clarke-Harris has attracted many bids or at least reported so guess they’ll still have him up top.

It's ridiculous how long they have kept hold of him. I guess there goes our sell on fee..

Isn’t that what they usually do but always seems to work out for them? They pretty much drip feed of Barnet don’t they!

They usually go for players who have performed well at lower levels.

This season they seem to be signing players of less quality. Rumours of Dmac wanting out, money drying up and unrest behind the scenes. They’ve binned off the local radio station to try to make more money. I’ll have them no where near the play off’s.

We've had three shitters on the bounce so hopefully it's someone else's turn.

Of the last 60 teams promoted into League One, 10 have been relegated in their first season, one has gone bust, and four have been promoted straight into the Championship.
Forty-five out of sixty (75%) have remained in League One after their first season.

Of the last 45 teams relegated into League One, fifteen have been promoted straight back and five have dropped straight through into League Two.
Only 25 out of 45 (55%) have remained in League One after their first season.

Teams promoted into League One in the last 15 seasons have outcomes as follows:
Relegated/bust after 1 season: 11 out of 60
Relegated after 2 seasons: 8 out of 43
Relegated after 3 seasons: 5 out of 30
Relegated after 4 seasons: 3 out of 22
Relegated after 5 seasons: 7 out of 17 (season five is the most dangerous!)
Relegated after 6 seasons: 2 out of 9
Relegated after 7 seasons: 1 out of 7
Relegated after 9 seasons: 1 out of 5

Promoted after 1 season: 4 out of 60
Promoted after 2 seasons: 2 out of 43
Promoted after 3 seasons: 2 out of 30
Promoted after 4 seasons: 1 out of 22
Promoted after 5 seasons: 1 out of 17
Promoted after 6 seasons: 1 out of 9
Promoted after 7 seasons: 1 out of 7

Teams still in League one after a promotion are:
Survived one season: Bristol R, Port Vale, Exeter
Survived 2 seasons: Bolton, Cambridge, Cheltenham
Survived 3 seasons: None
Survived 4 seasons: Lincoln
Survived 5 seasons: None
Survived 6 seasons: Portsmouth
Survived 7 seasons: Oxford
Survived 8 seasons: Shrewsbury
Survived 9 seasons: Fleetwood

Half of all teams relegated into League One are promoted within two seasons, and 27 of 45 (60%) after four seasons; however 8 of 45 (18%) were relegated to League 2 within 2 seasons

Only six teams remain in League One after recent relegation:
Stayed down 1 season: Peterborough, Barnsley and Derby
Stayed down 2 seasons: Wycombe
Stayed down 3 seasons: Charlton
Stayed down 5 seasons: Burton

The teams that have the longest stays in league One in the last 15 years are Fleetwood (still here) and Gillingham (relegated 2022) with 9 seasons; Peterborough (promoted 2021) and Colchester (relegated 2017) both managed 8. So stays in League One do tend to be quite brief...

Statistically the three promoted teams next season are likely to include:
- one of Reading, Blackpool and Wigan
- one of Derby, Peterborough and Barnsley

Statistically the relegated teams are likely to include:
- One (but only one) of Northampton, Carlisle, Orient and Stevenage
- One of Exeter, Port Vale and Bristol Rovers
- One of Cambridge, Cheltenham and Bolton
- One surprise, wither one of the long-standing teams (Fleetwood, Shrewsbury, Oxford) or one of the relegated teams (Blackpool, Reading, Wigan)

Of courses, quite often statistics give no useful clues to future behaviour at all, so this might all turn out to be bollocks...

Based on current this is my 1-24:

1. Portsmouth
2. Bolton
---------------------
3. Charlton Athletic
4. Derby County
5. Blackpool
6. Barnsley
---------------------
7. Oxford United
8. Wigan Athletic
9. Bristol Rovers
10. Lincoln City
11. Reading
12. Peterborough United
13. Burton Albion
14. Fleetwood Town
15. Port Vale
16. Wycombe
17. Leyton Orient
18. Shrewsbury Town
19. Northampton Town
20. Stevenage
-----------------------
21. Carlisle United
22. Exeter City
23. Cambridge United
24. Cheltenham Town

Feel Portsmouth have done some good business and its probably time for Bolton to push on.
Barnsley will be weaker but should creep in the top 6. Charlton similar to Pompey have done well in the window and Blackpool look best placed of the relegated sides to bounce back.

Oxford will vastly improve but fall just short.

At the bottom Carlisle look the weakest of the 4 and have them to struggle, none of the promoted sides will finish particularly high similar to last season but dont see an FGR in there.

Exeter have lost some decent players and replaced Brown will be tough so think they will fall as it stands, Cambridge look weaker without Sam Smith and Cheltenham losing May will be a huge blow so they are my 4.

I have us slightly improving with a good defence and midfield, a lot will depend on how much when we sign the strike force.

He only turned up for 9 games out of 46 though.

Without those last 9 games you'd have been dead and buried in fairness, was a remarkable escape in the end from the position you were in.

If he turned up for the others we wouldn't have been in that position.

Anyways, I know a lot of pundits/fans will have us down there, even if we still had Smith I think. I'm confident we'll stay up based on what I have seen in pre-season, our business and having Bonner as our manager.
