We got a very credible draw against a Strong Sheffield Wednesday the first team spread over two different XI in each half.

Lewis King was excellent in net. We restricted them two 2-3 clear cut chances and looked up it for all over the park. The best performance I have seen from a Alfreton side in two years. Sam Jones looked brilliant.

Niall Heatons strike was ht as sweet as a nut too. Extremely encouraging!

Why thank you, it's great to finally make the step up into the world of national football
We are now in the hands of Leeds planning dept. In order to further progress the ground development

Didn't go today but went to Colwyn Bay the other night, Gray looks big, aggressive and mobile. I reckon he's going to be a good signing for us.
Same here. All the people moaning when he was brought in after Moults departure are, I hope, going to be made to eat their words. Looks just the sort of player who will score a lot in this league.

We've played two local sides so far, so no real tests but both have been an opportunity for trialists to prove their worth..

Galmpton 0-9 TUFC
Dartmouth 2-5 TUFC

Ashley Yeoman has scored 9 I believe, staking his claim for yet another one year deal. However, with four strikers on the books already it looks unlikely in my eyes. He will have to perform against higher opposition in pre-season to really impress Cox.

Any idea who these trialists were out of interest?
No. We had A - J spread across two games but Brabin has asked to keep them secret. There's a couple of rumours but we don't really have a clue on all but the elusive 'H'.
EDIT. Trialist H scored 4, not 5. Mangan got the first.

2-0 win away at Rushden & Higham for AFCR&D.

Goals from Liam Dolman (our sterotypical huge CB) and Courtney Herbert (ex-cobblers winger/forward). The latter hasn't signed for us as far as I am aware, but would be a good addition considering official timing has him scoring 40s after stepping on the pitch! He also assisted the 2nd goal and sounded very dangerous.

We lost 1-0 at home to Stevenage, Brett Williams scoring from the penalty spot just after the half hour. Quite an entertaining game for a game that was so early on in pre-season. Plenty of the new signings showed promise, but it's almost impossible to analyse.

We lost 1-0 to Oldham, bit of a drab game but it was both teams first friendly, and was a decent test. Don't think we deserved to lose really as they looked a bit meek.

Been away for a week and missed 4 friendlies

First a Harriers X1 went to Romulus where we won 2-0 with Jake Green and a French Striker Amadou Alassane got the goals. According to Wikipedia Alassane was playing for Le Harve but got a Cardiac problem and stayed out of the game for two years but wants a way back. He got 32 goals in 80 games in both Ligue 2 and Ligue 1.
Full XI and Bench: Ben McNamara, Jordan Jones, Tyrone Williams, Nathan Millichamp, Kieren Westwood, Jake Green, George Forsyth, Luke Maxwell, Keyon Reffell, Gurjit Singh, Reece Hales.
Substitutes used: Amadou Alassane, Ryan Pace, Dan Sweeney, James Hancox, Jack Self.

Next up was Bedworth which was another 2-0 win with goals from George Cater and Dan Sweeney
HARRIERS: Snedeker, Jones, Williams, Maxwell, Westwood, Green, Forsyth, Hales, Sweeney, Spencer, Culley.
Substitutes used: Palmer, Cater, Hancock, Higgins, Bannister.

Then the first team had a behind close doors friendly against West Brom U21 where we won 2-1 Reece Styche getting both goals for us.
Full XI and Bench: Snedeker, Hodgkiss, Rowe-Turner, Langmead, Taylor, Clarke, Verma, Reid, Dawson, Styche, Maxwell.
Subs: Singh, Green, Tunnicliffe, Hales, Jones, Reffell, Strong.

Finally we had a friendly against Stourport where we sent another team of youth players and trialists and lost 1-0
Team: Bunn, Millichamp, Digie, Williams, Westwood, Palmer, Forsyth, Balmy, Sweeney, Alassane, Hales.
Subs used: Hales, Green, Singh, Hancocks, Woolley

Hopefully somebody recognises some of these names and can give some information about them

Beat Tadcaster 2-0 yesterday.

Looked like we played a few trialists and a couple of youth team players. Beat them 5-0 last year but think we put a stronger side out then.

If he wants a big pay packet I would be extremely surised if he got it from us! He must have taken a wage cut. I see in recent seasons he has been touring the Northern premier so in actual fact it may be a step up for him.

Late reply to this: He trialled with us prior to our amazing North Conference season. Wes Baynes was a much better right back and a local lad. (friend informed this weekend)

We only beat local Cymru Alliance side Gresford 3-1, Bit worrying that Mills has said that he wont be signing anybody else atm with the squad so small. Jennings played left back tonight

Playing North Ferriby tonight, Mckeown withdrew late on so instead of playing our first year pro Callum Bastock in goal, he stays on the bench while our new GK coach who joined us on Saturday Andy Warrington goes in goal.

Not sure I understand why he hasn't played Bastock, if he isn't getting a chance in friendlies when is he going to get a chance?

Beat NFU 2-1 Arnold and Pittman with the goals. Mistake from our youth with a short back pass for their goal. One of their players was ordered to be subbed by the ref as he made a number of late challenges.

Lost 2-1 away to Airbus tonight, Ball-Baggie getting on the scoresheet again with another very well taken goal.

Beat a very strong Rotherham squad 3-2 tonight with a fantastic prrformance. If we countinue to play like that we will be worthy of our second favs tag. Couldnt ask for more from pre season so far. Exciting games. Fantastic performances and great results. Completely different animal to last season.

Wasn't there but we beat Brighouse Town 5-0. They played 75 minutes with 10 as one of their outfield players saved a ball off the line. Unfortunately there was an assessor watching so ref had no choice but to send him off.

Decent run out and apparently we're playing some pretty decent stuff so far and a vast improvement on last year.

Very True but there are nothing but positives from our pre season so far so its got to be a good thing. To be able to limit two strong Championship sides to a draw and a defeat and a handful of clear chances has to be good.

Can wait for the season to start now!

Around this time two seasons ago we finished a very promising pre season with a 3-1 away win at Halifax. Fast forward a month into the season and we are bottom of the table and our manager has quit meanwhile Halifax ended up in the playoffs of the division above. Temper those expectations.

My only hope is that we get through the friendlies without too many injuries. A couple of seasons ago we lost a large chunk of our defenders to long term injury, hardly the ideal preparation for the start of the season. The only upside was that we brought in Aarran Racine as emergency cover on a short term contract, which was subsequently extended, and he is now one of our best players.

Can't say much about owt for us yet, but our defence seems steady and revamped, our midfield seems ambitious and our forward line may still lack firepower.

Biggest point of interest to me is the very large number of younger players who could regularly feature for us this season. Graham Hutchison (22), Richard Peniket (22), Dan Maguire (if he hasn't bailed on us) (22), Jake Hibbs (18), Josh MacDonald (18), Jordan Burrow (22), Elliott Whitehouse (21), Sam Hillhouse (18), James Bolton (21), Kingsley James (23). Then trialists are still to figure in, namely in nets. Could mean 50% or more of our team are England C eligible. Whether they have that quality is unproven yet for the majority, but it would appear that we're aiming to hone young talents more than ever.

We drew 1-1 with Cardiff tonight, both teams making a lot of changes so not an awful lot can be read into the result really. Joe Mason gave Cardiff the lead before Peter Whittingham missed a penalty, with Aaron O'Connor heading our equaliser shortly afterwards.

Jonny Maxted (triallist goalkeeper) had a good game apparently, as did Keanu Marsh-Brown who looked lively and set up our equaliser.

Tiverton 2-3 Torquay last night. James Hurst and Tyrone Marsh scored in the first half, while Ashley Yeoman found the net again.

We beat Evesham 7-3 on Tuesday night. Whilst the goalscoring was good, bit concerned at conceding 3 goals.

Then again, if we are that entertaining during the season then it could be exciting at least.
