Dino Maamria makes Westley look good in the same way that Raynor makes Evans look good.
Is this the most memorable thing he did as a 'Port player?

Southport are a yo-yo club. They did amazingly well to stay up last season. They're similar to Altrincham (also a yo-yo club). Difference is Altrincham do seem to have investment from other than football sources and aspire to consolidate in the National League.

I would agree that Southport and Alty are similar in income, size, support, certainly in the last 10 years or so and neither of us can regularly compete with the larger supported ex league clubs whether they have millionaire backers or just run up debts.

The difference between Alty and Southport is that Alty is fan owned, never spends more than it can afford (unlike Southport who is owned by Charlie Clapham) and Alty is gradually growing its support, community involvement (just built 750K new Community Sports Hall and matchday bar) and attendances have been growing well. However, until we get up to 2000 average I doubt we would be able to challenge for promotion. Just happy to consolidate as you said above.

Not quite true, Clapham is the chairman and second-largest shareholder, the majority shareholder being Sam Shrouder. The supporter's trust are also shareholders, but obviously don't have enough to influence anything on their own.

It goes around, and makes sense, that these days at the fringes of full-time/part-time the part-time players make more money overall by virtue of also having their "main" job on top of their football income. The benefit full-time clubs get is youngsters dropping down, after being released from league clubs, have low wage expectations and want to stay full-time as if it is some magical benefit in and of itself.

It's not a huge surprise, but it does seem a bit knee-jerk after one terrible result (and another bad scoreline). Gateshead 12th wouldn't read as a disastrous season, but the chairman has laid out his aims and put some money in to back it. It looks like it has made him a bit trigger happy.

Honestly, we have not played well all season. At the start it was alright because we were managing to scrape out wins but our luck ran out and it has been dire ever since we somehow managed to beat FGR. The Halifax and Worcester performances are the worst I have seen in many years as losing to bottom of the league who only had 10 men 4-1 and the Worcester scoreline flattered us as our 18 year old back up keeper had the best debut I have ever seen. Put this along with rumoured player unrest in the dressing room and it wasnt going to end well for him. Its a shame because hes a very nice bloke but that might have also been his downfall. Onwards and upwards though, I would like to see Money or maybe Aspin appointed.

Not really though. Crosby has rode his luck for the early part of the season and we picked up points more through luck than by judgement. A few injuries showed up the weakness of the squad and that we were carrying passengers who were clearly not very good. Crosby's answer was to play rookie loanee kids instead of established players and play others out of position. Rumours for a while that he had lost the dressing room and when players such as Curtis, Baxter and Shaw can't get a game, despite us playing poorly, and getting outplayed by the likes of Worcester the writing was on the wall. If you look at the fact we haven't won at home since early September, lost 6 out of the last 8 and then add in yesterdays dismal performance against 10 man Halifax he had to go if we were to salvage anything from a season that promised much but was heading towards a relegation scrap.

Is it always a managerial merry-go-round at this level? Not halfway through the season yet and already a third of sides have changed the manager.

Strange.
I was disappointed we didn't beat them at ours, we battered them for the first 35 minutes but got caught out on a rare break away just after that.

As mentioned above, Edmondson OUT, Cox IN at Barrow. All I really know about Cox is that the Mansfield chairman bought him a flashy car for beating Barrow 8-1 a few years ago...
We've not got bad players, so a man to instil a bit of drive and determination is what's needed - is Cox that sort of manager?

Yeah think his days were numbered after worcester but i was wiling to hope he turned it around. A win away to boreham wood followed but after wrexham and halifax losses chairman made right move. Seen loanee youngsters on instead of senior pros, some who were nowhere to be seen on saturday reminded me of when ruud hullit lost plot at mewcastle few year back and put shearer and ferguson on bench. Lets hope new manager gets players back on side and keeps hold of likes of james curtis, shaw, etc

Even though performances haven't quite been there all season, to sack him in the first bad spell of the season and his managerial reign seems a bit harsh. Plenty of teams have stuck by their manager in worse situations.

What exactly are their Board expecting?

Thing is though this "bad spell" is ongoing and getting worse week by week. Also Crosby was appointed by and is a personal friend of the previous owner. The new owner has seen us play poor football and gone from play off contenders to potential relegation candidates.

I'm not saying you are, but some of our fans are distastefully making an issue of this like it was a conspiracy by him just to give his pal a job. The truth is that after Wrexham took our manager and Tranmere appointed Brabin all that was left available were the dregs that nobody wanted. Up for the job were Harrison, Lee & Cooper. One was hopeless at Hartlepool, one has done well on a massive budget in a tinpot league and the other is a complete novice. Could one of those three have done a better job, possibly Harrison or Lee, but you can see why the previous owner went with someone he trusted as he was handing over the club and in theory didn't want to take a gamble for the new owners or fans.

As for Crosby going, whilst it may look strange to some from the outside, we've been awful all season and were squeaking results early on team spirit. Once the players realised he was a nice cuddly old man they could take advantage of, they started cheating and since then it's been horrific performance after horrific performance which undoubtedly would've ended in a relegation battle had he not been axed.

Cox will splash the cash, motivate and play unbelievably direct football.

The only ones saying stuff like that are those that support other teams. Some wanted crosby out after the fa cup exit and sacking him then could have been seen as a bit harsh but after saturday where senior pros were left on the bench and one senior pro james curtis was not evem on bench things had to change other our moderate fanbase would have shrank even more. Once a manager leaves fans favourites om bench the wrtings on the wall, happened to hullit at newcastle and theres often no going back

We have heard this morning the New Gatehead manager will be someone very experienced in the confrence & non league set up, also looking to bring a young local up & coming coach Kane Wears in with him.

Is James Curtis the lanky centre back? He was always very good against us. Also, where is Jamie Chandler? Another player who's looked brilliant every time against us.
Can vouch for how bad Gateshead fans are saying they've been. They were poor the other week.

Curtis has always been a stand out centre half even going back to our games in the lower leagues years ago. Never seen him have a poor game
