Somerset have signed Chris Rogers as overseas player for next season, as well as Ryan Davies from Kent who was England U19 keeper apparently.

Disappointing from a Kent perspective especially as Billings is likely to be away with England often as you said earlier in the thread.

Christ, Rogers and trescothick opening for us. Banger is going to be 40 and Rogers 39. That has got to be the oldest county, opening partnership in modern times.

Rogers is going to bat 3, Tres and Abell opening pair next season. Somerset confirmed as much on their facebook page.

Ah, ok . I did wonder what was going to become of young Tom. Still a weird signing imo.

It's a class signing, if you're looking for an overseas player there aren't many if any with a better proven record in English conditions than Rogers.

At the moment you'd think the team would look like:

1) Tres
2) Abell
3) Rogers
4) Hildreth
5) Cooper
6) R.Van der Merwe
7) Davies
8) C.Overton
9) Gregory
10) J.Overton
11) Leach

Swap for billings and northeast? :animatedf:

You want both of our keepers? Err............no.
SNE I can understand as he is a decade younger than Rogers and Banger

On a serious note, are you lot going to have a proper crack at promotion next season? Sussex are probably favourites but you have too many good players to be fucking about in the second division.

I sincerely hope so Aber. There were a few shoots during this year, with 2 QFs and Coles bowling well on his return.

Just need to sort out the batting

Is key still captain? He seems to have had a few lean seasons but should be good enough to still get substantial runs. Add a good season for key with your young uns having a good year and I can see you in the mix. I might even have a sneaky bet on you.

I may be wrong, but it may be a split captaincy job. Key in the CC and SNE in T20 and RLODC.

Agree about Keys lean streak, although he did pretty well at the end of the season. He is aiming to get to 60 first class centuries before he retires (currently on 53 or 4)

No trego ?
Only person he could swap in for would be RVdM, depends how Somerset are going to try and play it, bit of turn to help Leach or still batsmans paradise as Van der Merwe does have the better first class average and Trego isn't a better option than the other 3 seamers.

Can we have Meschede again then please? If you aren't planning on playing him, and he's only got a year left on his deal....either that or send Allenby back our way, heck both even.

I think Key is gradually steering towards retirement, he's already said he's walked away from limited overs formats so the young players can gain experience.

His performances aren't what they were in the CC but I think he's important to the side in terms of his knowledge and players like Bell-Drummond learning from him.

As for next season, who knows. We were relatively poor throughout most of last season but also showed glimpses of real quality, scoring over 600 on a couple of occasions.

I think Kent could have a right go, Sussex and Kent for promotion. Unless of course Worcestershire get ajmaal back, then all bets are off.

Not that i've heard, he's playing back in Australia this winter. Though he is getting old and can't possibly play every game in every format any longer.

Funny as we were talking about this earlier but Northeast has been named Kent captain for the 2016 season.
