Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Hannah sent off today for Barrow I see, not good.
We stuttered to a 2-2 draw with Curzon Ashton. Rob Atkinson starting his first game of pre season and looking a little rusty. Marcus Williams was back again though which is encouraging, i hope he signs. Nicky Clee got some more valuable game time as he works on fitness.
No real fluidity to our game yet but the signs are positive. Being part time hurts us most at this time of year.

Thought it was an enjoyable game. Fair result as we were better 1st half and your lot 2nd.

You just started too sloppy really, the 2nd for Curzon gifted and all over place first 35 mins.

The goal at end of first half and obvious kicking and changes by your manager at half time turned game and really you could have won.

But fir a small part time team on 200 gates and probs lowest conf north budget I do get impressed that Curzon try and play football

Apparently the Cowleys were at our game against Wimbledon on Friday. They seem to be taking all this very seriously.

Yeah, they've been to Dagenham, NFU and Sutton friendlies, too.

When the fans forum was on back in May, they said they'd be going to at least two friendlies of our first 4 opponents because they couldn't rely on getting footage for pre-season but also they like to see upcoming opponents live a few times anyway where possible.

Steve Housham (NFU), Dean Saunders (I think his son plays for Crewe?) and John Schofield (no idea who he's scouting for, if at all) were in the stands on Saturday at ours.

We drew 1-1 with Newcastle's youth on Saturday. Out of seven games (including the closed doors one against Blackburn), we've won two and drawn one, but generally played some decent stuff. As ever it's hard to read too much into the results, but it looks like a distinct improvement over last season's shower of utter shite.

Agree with that, Curzon always seem to play a decent passing game which is entertaining to watch.
The game was a bit frustrating from our point of view as we haven't played one game with the whole first team through pre season due to injuries and looking at triallists so we are not working as a cohesive 'team' right now.
I fear we could struggle in the first few fixtures until everyone settles in and get s to know each others game.
We have better quality individuals this time but need to develop into a team.

As well as Saunders, Hodge, and Steve Housham I saw Gary Hill at the Crewe game too so he must also be taking things seriously, hope he is having sleepless nights after watching us!

You aren't going to phase the Best Manager in Non League. He's busy masterminding how to stretch his 225k budget squad to negate newly moneybags Lincoln.

We have done ok pre-season but are very light and inexperienced at the back, we will beat any poor teams in this league but will struggle against the top 5-6.

If it's anything like previous Lincoln teams, he'll be getting plenty of sleep during the game.

I see you have predicted Woking finishing ahead of Lincoln again Sparrow, my challenge still stands that I think we will finish higher than you will.

I was merely basing that prediction off the last four seasons.

No extra game for us tomorrow so thats us done.

Sheffield Wednesday (H) 1-1 D
Grimsby Town (H) 0-1 L
Notts County (H) 0-0 D
Mansfield Town (H) 1-1 D
Nottingham Forest XI (H) 3-3 D

Difficult to judge us from pre season. We have generally held our own against decent opposition. But we have spent a lot of time chasing the ball and had no opportunity to dictate a match at our terms which is a concern and a sign of poor planning. We need a right back and some sort of competition for Calamity Fabian Spiess.

Why didn't you have any games away from home? You've only played league teams and a young Notts Forest XI (probably the same team we beat), I'm not sure that's great preparation for a season in the Conference. What do you think?

Tell me about it Steve. I couldnt agree with you more. Its all to do with our Chairman. He has decided to go for Gate receipts over a selection of games against weaker sides (like we did the season before) and its backfired. Only manged 300 at home to Grimsby and 376 at home to Forest.

We very unorganized off the pitch at the moment. We had penciled in a friendly with Long Eaton (Step 5) for tomorrow but due to injures (we have a threadbare squad even before we have kicked a ball, asking for trouble dont you think, its been called off. Its a shambles.

Christ. Was Nathan Arnold signing an actual possibility or just keeping him fit as a favour? I don't understand how you could have the funds for that if the Chairman is so desperate for funds to come through at home friendlies, which you obviously haven't got going off those numbers.
So you don't have at least 13 players fit when the season starts Saturday?

Well information is extremely hard to get hold off as the run is run like the Knights Templar at the minute so I dont really know. I know that Nathan and Tom Shaw desperately wanted to sign but Wayne just couldnt agree to wage demands. To be honest I really am not sure what Wayne`s game is. Fans who know him say he is desperate for promotion, I dont see myself.

To be honest nobody knows for sure who has signed and who is on trial and who isnt as their is no functioning website at all- thus no coverage in local papers and now even Twitter updates have dried up.

Things look pretty bleak to say the least.

At the minute we have 16 players. 2 of those are injured and another didnt turn up at all against Forest desperate being named on the teamsheet

Knights Templar? Sounds like North Korea! ;)

Well it makes sense then that wage demands couldn't be met!
I get the idea of raising funds by just having home friendlies, but apart from Sheffield Wednesday you were never going to get big crowds, so that decision with those kind of teams is a bit strange and it's really not great preparation for the season.

It's certainly a farce that there is no coverage for the fans, that's bizarre in this technology dominated world!

How do you know that guy who didn't turn up wasn't also injured with the club not updating fans?

The irony is our chairman Wayne Bradley has made his fortune in the Marketing and Publicity sector!! You couldnt make it up!

Well the two lads who were injured were not named on the teamsheet while Cecil Nyoni was and he has a history of not turning up for matches. He did it at Harrogate and for us last season in a league game. Shame as he is developing in to a decent player.

Haha that's sublime! Glorious glorious irony.

Ok that's pretty conclusive then. How is he even allowed to play for a team two levels away from the football league if he has a history of that?! Terrible.

We've got our final pre-season friendly tonight, away at Swindon Supermarine. Our OS says we'll send a strong squad..

Edit: OS was right. Looks like our potential line up for Saturday playing tonight.

We beat a Grimsby side featuring Paul Hurst 2-0 behind closed doors tonight.

Does that mean we take their pre-season champions trophy?

Any idea of the team? Got the impression from DC that it'd just be players who need minutes i.e. Beevers, Habergham, Marriott, Howe and Arnold. Rest U18's?

Halfiax fans - How has Jamie Jackson been getting on in preseason? Likely to offer him a deal or is he already signed on?

No idea I'm afraid. Grimsby Town posted a pic on their Twitter account and the only players I could see were Beevers, Marriott, Howe and Arnold.

Looked like Town played a mix of kids and management (manager, assistant manager and goalkeeping coach), which seems a bit strange.
