Going down was the best thing that could have happened to you. You are now on an upward trajectory.

Maybe so. Though I shall remind you of this post if Chester do an Alty and get relegated again

When we got Bern and Jonno most of our fans thought it was a major coup, but after Blyth and Telford that would appear to be a false dawn. We've got 38 games to turn it round and I'm not sure if we can do that. Quite a few of the current squad are simply not good enough. It will be a case of trying to cut out the errors and start picking up a few points. I believe that some of our youth graduates that have been sent out on loan are better propositions than some of the current squad and need recalling. We gave 17 year-old Lloyd Marsh-Hughes his debut as a late sub on Saturday and I think he will be a big player for us as he develops.

Quite a few fans here thought Neil Young was a coup, as they did when Jim Harvey came along.

I still can't believe how badly that season unravelled, but I kind of knew after the first few games that something was wrong.

There are a few similarities between Alty 2016-17 and Chester this season. New messiah manager(s), a huge defeat early on (6-0 at home to Fylde, they gave up after 50 minutes), players who didn't ever look good enough, and fans looking to reserves / youth players for crumbs of comfort (none of ours from that year got anywhere near the first team on a regular basis - all have now gone)

Our home game against Nuneaton on 13th October has been postponed.... BUT NOT FOR WHY YOU THINK.

Nuneaton have had players called up for international duty. Couldn't make it up.
Embarssing from them again. They did this last season as well. They deliberately sign international players to do this IMO.

Our home game with them has also been affected.

York have been affected for the second consective season.

I would have Neil Young back in place of Bern and Jonno tomorrow, but I doubt he'll touch us with a bargepole after the way the board treated him last season when he was helping out for free.

This is ridiculous it’s conference north and 2 season running.thought Nuneaton lost all players from last season
This league is that tin pot ,maybe toss a coin to give result.
Chester at this rate will be playing every night, would be funny if they have a fa cup run and get to trophy final.

While I imagine it's annoying, I doubt they sign international players, paying their wages for a full season, just to get a few games postponed...

Good game between Leamington and AFC Telford on Monday. Leamington took the lead with a very questionable penalty. Telford hit back with a decent freekick just before HT and then immediately at the start of the 2nd half. Leamington fought back to make it 2-2. Immediately from kick off, Telford went up the other end and won a penalty! I'm talking like, 45 seconds from the restart maybe? Penalty saved! Leamington continue their good start, as do Telford. Worth a watch.

That's an impressively bad decision by the referee to book Joe Clarke there when the Telford player goes in studs up on him.

We don't do F A Cup runs or Trophy finals I'm afraid.

He was sheer class at The Shay during his spell in temporary charge and did himself proud.

Sean Miller, a Neil Young signing late of this parish, has signed (I believe re-signed) for Chester.

Very highly-rated by some of our fans, based on about 15 games he managed during the season of death. He got injured at Christmas 2016 and was out for about 10 months, came back overweight, and never looked the same player. Went out on loan to two Evostik regional sides last year and was released after pre-season just gone

Matchday 8 tomorrow then.

AFC Telford v Ashton United
Blyth Spartans v Altrincham
Boston v Kidderminster
Brackley Town v Chorley
Curzon v Nuneaton
Darlington v Alfreton
Guiseley v Chester
Hereford v York
Southport v Spennymoor
Stockport v Leamington

For the Third season in a row we make the trip up to Darlo in late August/Very early september. Can we make it a hat trick of superb away wins? When I first looked at the fixtures particularly the away ones I thought we were going to make a slow start but its been anything but. Lets see if we can keep it going tomorrow,

Fully expect Denton to score and for us to cause Darlo`s backline problems. Can we keep Styche/Darlo out?

Sean has potential, gets past defenders and can score from range, he just seem to lose his edge when injured and never quite seemed the player he was. I hope he does well, nice lad.

Was a bit disappointed when Burr let Miller go in the first place after coming through our youth system as he clearly had something about him. Not really the position we need to strengthen in but hope he can recapture his previous Connah’s Quay and Alty form.

Also signed goalkeeper Connor King most recently of Burnley.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Not able to go but massive game for Curzon today, even this early. I am not blinded or bias enough to think we won’t be anything but a relegation battler and therefore it is games vs these sides which count. We got thumped on Monday but defeats ca a very decent in form Chorley won’t hurt us, bad results today will.

Hope Cummins starts but unsure if he fit yet

I expect a 5-1 away win.

Our backline is atrocious, and injuries are killing us on top of that - it'll be a bench full of kids.

The trouble is, even if we're good going forward (we have an embarrassment of riches in Styche, Ainge - though he will likely play defence today, Thompson, Nicholson, Syers etc) that if the defence is terrible you often end up 2-0 down before you've even got the ball in the opposition box. Then it's backs to the wall and the attackers hardly see the ball anyway.

Grim, grim times. If we can sort the defence out PDQ and get a couple of players back fit then we can still have a good season - but today is too soon.

As said, my prediction is Darlington 1 Alfreton 5.

If we win, it will actually be a modern day miracle.

1-0 down and the first time we've been behind all season, sounds like we're getting absolutely hammered

First away win, clean sheet and still unbeaten. Not a bad Saturday. Think our 352 is finally coming together glad our manager stuck with it rather than panicking and abandoning his plan.

Also Ed Williams :eyes: what a player he is.

You were hammered. Daylight robbery we didn't get 3 points. But we're not tough enough this season - so despite outclassing Chorley, having probably 6 times as many chances, hitting the post etc we let in two goals from Chorley's 3 chances and end with a point. Very very frustrating....
