This weekend sees us face up against Boston United at Edgeley Park. I'm expecting a tight game hopefully better than last season when Boston basically sat back and wasted time for 81 mins until we made the breakthrough.

They certainly started well but are on a run of 3 defeats on the spin. That being said, we've not been at the races at all yet this season. If we're going to have any chance of challenging at the right end we need to be winning games at home so a win on Saturday is a must.

It looks like we still won't have any of our injured players due back anytime soon so its going to be tough tomorrow at Alfreton.

Curzon tomorrow.

It's just over 2 years to the day since a home defeat at the hands of Curzon led to NY resigning and the season of death

Guiseley tomorrow at home. Will be a tough game tomorrow. I expect Russ to make Guiseley very hard to break down after of course Russ beat Heath`s Halifax while in charge of Alfreton.

Think patience will be the key but we shall see.

Certainly an extreme clash of the same style!

Oh dear, today we have no Styche due to international duty with Gibraltar, and to make matters worse, Ainge who was going to revert back up front and take his place, is injured.

Still no Terry Galbraith or Dom Collins so Liam Hughes drops back into defence. O'Hanlon, Wheatley and Henshall all return from injury and suspension.

We've got no chance today against Telford, it's hammering down with rain, and of course the ref will give us nowt - great way to keep the crowd down.

Maddison

Trotman Burn Hughes O'Hanlon

Thompson Wheatley Elliott Nicholson

Syers

Saunders

Bench - Henshall, Glover and 3 kids

Never saw that one coming, could Hughes be the solution to our defensive woes? He's certainly big enough at 6ft 4 and was immense today.

Having Wheatley and Elliott back in midfield sure helped as well, so much so that we didn't miss Styche and Ainge up front as much as I thought.

Down to 2 unbeaten teams in the league now us and Chorley. Chorley obviously a lot better off than us so far.

Excellent win for us that and a cracking match to be fair. We were sublime going forward and could have scored far more but also concede as many as well. Quite calamitous back there at times though making some really daft mistakes. Couple of nice cameos right at the end from two making their debuts in Luke Jordan and Deane Smalley as well, should improve things further.

Off we go.

Jesus, that was redolent of the season of death.

Curzon are the fattest football team I've ever seen and they didn't have to break sweat. We were diabolically ponderous and already look like relegation contenders.

Tom Peers is among the worst strikers I've seen wear an Alty shirt, up there with Craig Hobson and Danny Hattersley

Quality win today against a poor Ashton side. Have to say they still had the bollocks to try to play some football even when 5-0 down, not that well mind, but fair play.

A battle to be sure but one we just edged overall.
Denton struggled to keep his composure, booked for an elbow to Garners head but got away with another two thrown at Wells. Middleton sent off for a nasty studs up lunge on Kingsley James.
Liburd finally slotted home a one on one with a keeper having failed with the last three. Hopefully that will boost his confidence and he can push on now.

A better performance than I expected given our injury list and lack of pace up top.

Alfreton right winger and right full back both impressed.

First off congratulations on a deserved 3 points.

A dissapointing and frustrating afternoon similar to the Curzin game i many respects but if anything we were worse.

Guiseley`s goal was a pure gift. Shocking back pass from Platt and Riley who desperatrely short of match action and had a mare didnt help.

With prospective though we are 5th which is a great effort given our fixtures.

The ultimate test it seems away at Chorley next week who are beginning to pull away even at this stage.
We started really well in the first 10 mins. Perhaps should have had the lead within 30 seconds thanks to Bobby Johnson. However as the game wore you got the impression we werent gonna score.

Second half was astrcious.

From where I was watching in the press area the Red card looked like a joke. Yes he was a late but it looked a yellow at the very worst. Looked to me like he had kept his feet down. Never a red for me. I think it said a lot that nobody in the ground really appealed or no Guiseley players reacted. A very poor decison for me.

You would have seen it from behind so not the best view I suspect. He stretched/ lunged and landed on James' ankle. The Guiseley players closest were straight to the ref.
I actually thought Denton should have seen red for the elbow on Garner, he swung it for all to see, ref bottled that one.

Very good team performance today, Ashton never really a threat, the difference between this season and last is that it now is a question of "when we score" rather than "if we score" as under Jansen. Clearly a different philosophy and so much better to watch. Still early in the season but let's see how we cope with Alfreton next Saturday.

Well that result was a turn up for the books against an unbeaten in-form Telford side, who in all honesty were pretty average considering they are just below Chorley in the league.

Good thing about the performance today we played some brilliant football and created some great chances, I thought I'd go down the open end and watch our defensive display in the first half for a change. Maddison was very vocal today organizing the defense, and then i spotted Liam Hughes mopping everything up that came into the area, what a performance from Hughes as a centre half. Lad's a natural!

Deservedly got man of the match after today's display. I just hope TW gives him another chance at Southport? First goal was a beautiful strike from Jordan Nicholson, followed by a chuffed to bits Saunders after he was unlucky with his other effort that got pushed onto the bar by Telford's replacement keeper in the second half, and a grateful Thommo penalty that he smashed into the back of the net.

We've definitely missed Wheatley over the last three games pulling the strings in midfield, Trotman is far too good for this league, overall performance wise every player put in a good shift today.

It's not very often i praise the officials, but credit where its due they were decent today.

Early day's but that was an unexpected much needed win for TW and the lads. I'm really pleased for TW he was under some pressure, now let's see if we can build on this great result.

Next stop for me onwards to Southport.

Fast forward to 2:15 for the Red card incident.

Sorry but those highlights only make the decison worse. Diabolcal officating.

One of the worse decisons I have ever seen. Keen to hear the oponion of neutrals.

I agree with Billy Heath`s assessement that refs are going to the Impact with preconcieved idea about our style of play rather than judging each incident on its merits.

GuiseleySteve cannot see how that is a red.

2 footed and late. Could maybe be a yellow but can see why it's been given as a red.

Put it this way, if the Guiseley player hasn't already dived in for the ball and he's stood up with his leg planted, it's a potential leg breaker. A yellow may have been okay, but you can't really have any complaints there, he's nowhere near the ball.

On the other point about the preconceived idea, if there is any, it's based on stats. Halifax were bottom of the fair play table in the national league last season (see here). If you play an overly aggressive and physical style, you're going to get more bookings and red cards.

Nowhere near the ball, and studs showing. Can see why it was given as a red card, although there was one in our match at FCUM yesterday that was almost identical and their player got away with a yellow card for it.

Fair enough. The consensus is clear

Really feel for Harry Middleton. Subbed on and off for 5 minutes at Darlington after the Red card to Shiels and will no miss 3 games for the straight red there.

Shithoused our way to a 2 nil win at Stockport
Deserved it first half. 2nd half defended and played on the break
Disgusted that two of our players had the cheek to actually go off injured and kill time!
Best performance from us this season. The lad up top from Grimsby took his goal superbly
