We have bizarrely sacked Burchnall’s assistant, the combative Scot Maurice Ross. No further comment from the club.

He did an interview that was released Friday night in which he said we needed ‘3 or 4 animals’ next season (fair comment imo), the early speculation is it may be linked to that

We’ve said nothing in our statement (presumably because we’ll be pushing gross misconduct or whatever), but Ross has basically come out and said ‘I’m a disgrace and the club had to sack me’, which suggests it’s pretty bad.

The only thing that’s a bit weird is that there was no suggestion of this on Saturday - Burchnall and Rich Brindley were both perfectly normal in their post-match interviews etc.

I once abused Maurice Ross. I was a bit worse for wear outside Ibrox (I'd gone to see a Pre season friendly versus Everton with some Everton supporting mates). We were hanging out near the players car park Ross pulls up and came towards us, possibly thinking we wanted an autograph. I, quite rudely, said "who the fuck are you?" to his face. He walked off looking crestfallen.

I had no idea who he was though.

Clutching at straws somewhat but I’m hoping Mo might have been a fairly ‘outspoken’ voice around the place that was pissing the squad right off and now he’s gone they might try to play a bit for IB... yeah I know.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they make Doyle or O’Brien or someone his assistant between now and the end of the season in a bid to build a bridge between IB and the fans. As long as it’s not Ben Turner

IB’s position basically depends on what’s happened yesterday. Ross wasn’t at training, so presumably IB knew something was up. It’s a case of whether he’s tried to talk the players down and they’ve gone to Turner over his head, or whether he’s backed up the players in making a complaint about it. If it’s the former then his position looks pretty untenable, the latter and it looks a lot stronger.

Michael Doyle replaces Ross until the end of the season, will still play/captain as well.

Sensible move that I could see becoming a longer term thing if it works. Suggests there’s no rift between the players and Burchnall too as Doyle is very much the senior pro and dressing room leader.
