I take it your defence is your strength then because Southend's only saving grace right now is that it looks like we have goals in us.

How many 'Home' fans do you reckon will be there? we've sold over 1,000 tickets so far which tbh I'm amazed by. I'm on the train Saturday and can't wait, if it's 0-0 then hopefully be an eventful one.
Our defence is the only good thing about us, half our midfield are injured and all our strikers are shite.

We've sold 3000 season tickets and I'd expect 1-1.5k walk-ups so probably looking at a crowd of around 5-6k. Probably be the highest we get all season.

Is only one stand open? I went to have a look on your online ticket site and could only appear to buy tickets in one stand?

Yeah, just the one stand. No need to open more when we won't sell them.

Thats got to be one of our best 'opening day ' wins in many a long year against a much fancied team for promotion. Stats show over 70 % possession for Posh so be interested to hear from any home fans who went to the game

Years of boycotting, brand new fan owner who has backed a new manager and those lasher bastards still can't manage 10,000 home fans for the first game of the season.:lol::lol::lol:

Real shame we lost that today.

Cracking first half, but completely ruined (from our view) by the penalty. Definitely a penalty but the Blackpool tails went straight up after that moment.

We're missing Clarke-Harris & Holmes-Dennis without a doubt. I did see positives overall, but ultimately we lost to a good Blackpool team.

With us having a free Saturday I went to the Peterborough game.

Very odd game, Fleetwood offered very little but still scored 3 goals!

To be fair they didn’t need to offer much as Peterborough just shot themselves in the foot in the first 15 minutes of the game, especially Beevers who had an absolute shocker of a debut. Gave away a corner I don’t think they needed too and got beat by the big centre half for Fleetwood. Then Beevers misjudged a regulation long ball allowing the Fleetwood player in behind him and he finished very well over the keeper. 2-0 Fleetwood and they had barely done anything in the game!

Peterborough looked very narrow, when in possession of the ball, they looked to build out from the back but the fullbacks instead of providing width tended to tuck inside and play almost on top of the centre halves. Meant all Fleetwood had to do was block the very obvious ball out to the wingers and made Peterborough play largely in there own half and through the centre which was easy enough to defend. That tactic actually cost Peterborough the second goal as their fullback got caught out of position having lost it, Fleetwood thumped it down the line to the vacant spot, Rugby pin them back in the 22esque, for Beevers to make his mistake.

After that Fleetwood saw it out fairly easily I felt. Peterborough got a goal back but never felt like they would seriously mount a comeback. The free kick was decent and came from Kent this time misjudging another regulation thump up the pitch.

Fleetwood had all the tricks in the book to kill the game and picked up a few bookings for there trouble but they kept it tight, defended well and held onto the lead well. Will be a nasty side to play this year as I think they were last year too.

Peterborough need to sort out there attacking pattern of play as they looked impotent despite there wealth of striking talent. Don’t think Eisa had more than a few touches of the ball all day.

I was impressed with Rochdale today, who were worthy winners at Prenton. Their 3rd goal was a peach of a team goal and I thought the 2-3 scoreline flattered us.
If Rochdale are amongst the relegation favourites then it’s going to be a long hard season for us. Thought Stefan Payne was unlucky to be hauled off at half time and we really missed Jake Caprice.
Good to see a healthy 8000+ crowd, most of whom staying behind the team despite things not going our way.

Yes, I agree with all of that. The biggest problem for us today was that we had a centre half playing at right back and all three Rochdale goals came down that side of the pitch. We won't get away with square pegs in round holes at this level.

I thought Ferrier looked lively when he came on, which is a positive. I would start with him and Payne up front at Portsmouth.

Good start to the season for us and an amazing atmosphere as you would expect . Scrappy first half but very comfortable after the early second. We will be hard to beat this season with that defence . Tilt was the stand out player a long with Kaikai .

Great following from Bristol Rovers , as always . Onto Southend away.

Fair play to Fleetwood , they've not really had to do much to win 3 points though Andrews free kick for their 3rd against our new midget keeper was quality.

Lots of things need ironing out & lots of disappointing debut's , but hey , 45 games to go , though probably about 25 for Fergie , our gob sh*te twitterati chairman just loves a new manager most January's :bg:

Much better from us than I was expecting from us today, probably could have been 2 or 3 up before Southend started getting back into it with 10-15 to go. Fear for them this season based off that performance as they offered very little over the 90, although I'm sure they'll probably feel a bit unlucky not to come away with a point given some of the chances they had from set pieces in the final 10.

Do their fans post drivel on the championship board about your team as well?

Nope they come on our forum telling us how big of a club they are. Hilarious.

What the fuck has it got to do with you?

I think he was just making an observation . Since your post seems out of place in this thread. That and you come across as terribly bitter for some reason.

Bitter in what way? I'm commenting how shit your crowd was for the big 'Blackpool are back' game after weeks of being told how big it'd be.

The ' Blackpool are back game ' was against Southend last season . I think you are getting confused in this anger like state you are experiencing . If you looked on our forums you will see our predicted home crowd amounted to what was seen this afternoon.

New owner, new manager, new start. This game was far bigger and you couldn't muster 10k. Back to your sub 6k crowds soon enough.

No interest in reading your Bum Henry Street forum thank you very much.

Didnt go to plan. Sounded like we had alot of the ball but Shrews were extremely disciplined and stopped us getting past them and get any meaningful crosses in. Could see what was going to happen when we couldn't make our possession count. Shrews winning it with their only shot on target. Was a screamer and he'll never score a better one in his life! Player wise our attacking force is the best in the league. But that counts for nothing if we can't get them to work together. Just need them to gel quickly.

Comfortable win for us today and probably should have been 3 or 4 despite the issues we currently have. Could only name 6 subs and 4 of those were the GK, 18, 18 and 19, missing Frecklington, Pett and Shackell with Bostwick and O'Connor having hardly any pre-season minutes and Bolger having a stomach bug but soldiering on because he was one of only two available CB's.

Great football on show and clearly another shift in style now we've got the likes of Payne and Morrell in there (well, Payne at '10'). Early days, mind. Thankfully, it looks like despite that further tweak, we've still retained the physical and battling qualities that have served us so well over the last 3 seasons.

Need to get some depth in the squad, especially with, unbelievably, 9(!) games in August.
