Doncaster were the better team until Woodrow and Moncur came on. I assume Stendel was resting them for Sunderland on Tuesday but Rovers have punished his arrogance there. If any team deserved the 3 points it was them, yet another toothless home performance but this time we’re not fortunate enough to come away with the three points. I’ve haven’t seen a Barnsley side give up possession so much for quite a while.

Another effective away performance by us. That's 8 away wins out of 10 in the league. Glad we have a very good defence as we seem to want to sit back and defend deep once we are ahead. We missed a decent chance to kill the game off at 2-0, then whilst scunny offered little in the game they pulled one back and we manage to see the game out. Still need to be able to win games more comfortably as defending a one goal lead is not an easy one. Good results all round for us today. Massive day tues with Sunderland and Barnsley playing each other. Looks like Luton are having a hell of a season and no surprise as they absolutely tore us a new one at Fratton Park, not sure how we won that one.. They could be 2nd place come December..

A well deserved win today in a game which lacked quality. However we were the better side and thoroughly deserved the 3 points. In fact the game should have been wrapped up at the end of the first half when Collins goal was harshly disallowed and the officials somehow not seeing a clear penalty award. Thought the officials generally had a very poor game today. Gillingham looked like the away side and didn't seem interested in making a game of it until it was too late. By then we had a 3-0 cushion and while we had to defend deep at times late in the game I was fairly confident we were never going to lose the game. Our finishing is clinical at the moment and we have the confidence at the back to cope with teams who play Gillinghams direct style of play. The thing that surprises me about this league is how many poor teams there are. Gillingham are definitely one of those and look as if they will be in a relegation scrap especially if they lose Eaves in the January transfer market. As for us we seem to be the form team at the moment. At the beginning of the season we were playing well without getting the points we deserve now that has changed and suddenly we are in touch with the teams pushing for that second spot. Think Portsmouth have found a winning formula and it seems even when they don't play well they get the win. Most Luton fans will be more than happy with a play off spot and at the moment that looks a good bet. For that to happen we will have to keep the vultures away from our manager and some of our promising players.

Portsmouth are up as far as I'm concerned and will win the division at a canter. After that Sunderland look most likely to get 2nd spot having only lost once (hopefully we'll change that on Tuesday), the remainder of the 6 is anyone's guess.

I just can’t see us taking one of the automatic spots. Some of the football I’ve seen has been dire, I mean it’s painful to watch. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy we’re picking up points but the football I’m watching isn’t blowing me away and I’ve gotten the feeling more than once we’ve been lucky to win the game. I’m very confident of a playoff spot but only because the quality of most of the league is even worse.

Another poor display from us fucking sick of us having to go at least 2 goals for us to start looking interestedon actually attacking. Massive game away at Bristol rovers on Tuesday think this is in the must win category. Lovell has to go or we will be playing league 2 next season

The tactics for you were pretty clear and thats to hit Eaves at any and every opportunity. I never felt like that was a winning strategy today as our 2 big centre halves were dealing with it very well, especially Pearson who is just growing and growing as the warrior centre half you just love to have. We brought on another centre half in Sheehan to see the game out but for me it meant we lost our way a bit and that was the point where you started to really put us under pressure in terms of awkward balls to deal with, and we actually ended the game with 4 recognised centre halves on the pitch. If that Sheehan sub had worked as I assume Jones envisaged I doubt that happens.

For Gillingham it very much felt like a "one man team" to me, get it to Eaves and see if he could do something with it with little around him really, the midfield in particular I thought looked very much lacking in anything. Was very surprised a midfield player actually won MoM from the sponsors!

Nosebleed! We’re in 12th spot!

Still many, many games to go, players to get injured, yadda yadda, but we may actually stay up. Result.

The game today was FUCKING RUINED however by 2 goals in the second half, one for each side.

Were it not for these, the game could have formed the answer to the dullest, most obscure football quiz question ever - “which was (surely?) the only football league game in 2018 when all goals were scored by different players, each of which used to play for the opposing club?”.

Yup. First three goals:

Aaron Amadi-Holloway (ex us)
Adam El-Abd (ex Shrews)
Joe Jacobson (“ “)

Hard to beat that for The Curse Of The Old Boy.

Injuries and inconsistancy will be why we won’t trouble the top two unfortunately. The likes of Portsmouth and Sunderland are too strong to allow you to get away with that. We’re going to miss Cullen big time. Was a great result yesterday mind without key players.

This side - fully fit, is more than capable of winning the play offs though. Just need to make sure we get there.

Cracking derby game yesterday with two teams playing at 100mph, I thought we did enough to win it but for some poor decision making by Marquis and May plus a superb last second save by Davies. I’m just pleased with the performance given how poor we have been for the last month.

Playing Luton on Tues with one centre half available which is going to be fun.

Don’t think that scoreline reflected the game yesterday but what you gonna do

I didn’t think we were actually that bad, we looked decent at times - we just had defensive blunders which were punished (as they do when you’re a relegation team).

I saw signs of encouragement though. Must say Charlton didn’t look that great though - but reading the above I guess they have a few injuries & at the end of the day, they still won 3-1, which is the mark of a good team

5 consecutive wins at home is our best run since 1995,up to 12th,8 points above relegation and our goal difference is better than the bottom 8 teams,we were everybody's favourites on here for relegation but Ainsworth has hit half the points he wanted with 2 games to spare.

We started the best I've seen us this season, putting Walsall under pressure from the off. Then once again Max Power gives the ref a decision to make for a silly tackle on the halfway line and gets his third red in 6 games, I'd happily send him back to Wigan but I hear we have an obligation to buy.

We weather the storm with Walsall missing an open goal after a miscommunication in the defence. 0-0 at half time, good chance to regroup. 2nd half kicks off and we're 1-0 down then let them shoot for what was a cracking strike for the 2nd.

Now the last few seasons this would call for fans leaving for the exits for an already cancelled train home. But Maja is taken off for Maguire which seems odd at the time but that turned things around, McGeady scores a goal that seems to take an age to cross the line. We continue to attack and miss a sitter before Gooch finds the net and we are back level. Can't fault our lads efforts this season and there appears to be a unity between players and fans. A unity Luke O'Nien took to a new level by rugby tackling a fan on the pitch.

Hopefully next Saturday in our crunch tie with *checks fixture list* Walsall will be less eventful.

A draw was a fair result overall. But I am disappointed at our game management. Nieve once again at 2-0 up, then we concede two, we did exactly the same against Coventry in the FA Cup a couple of weeks ago. This time against 10 men.

I thought the sending off was a bit harsh (after seeing the incident replayed) I've seen some comments online from your supporters that the referee gave us everything. I don't agree, especially since (having seen a replay) the officials disallowed a first half goal for us wrongly.Cook was clearly onside
Add that "goal" to the two that we did score and I think even our leaky defence would've held on! I am still scratching my head as to how we hit the post when we missed that open goal late in the first half too.

That said, you have some quality players and I think you will finish in the top two.
Magnificent support yesterday from Sunderland.

Not a great game today away at Rochdale - the football league paper only gave it a 1 star rating. In the same article it quoted Keith Hill as blasting the Dale fans for not making enough noise which I thought was very harsh!

As for us we last won a league game on 20 Oct so we need to get a win soon before we start sliding down the table. We're at home to in-form Wycombe on tues hopefully we can get back to winning ways.

You fucked my 7-fold both teams to score, you're now below Morecambe in terms of Lancashire teams I have no beef with. Tossers.

Just because of this, i'd piss myself if Wycombe got relegated now

How good is your memory, though? My comment will be well buried by then - I'll make damn sure of that!

We was absolutely dire against Wimbledon who thoroughly deserved their 3 points. With our injuries staying up has to be this seasons target but it won't be happening playing like that.

Playing Luton at home where there has been no defeats in 8 months.

Careful Kenny. Starting to get carried away again? Playing well and getting results but - with respect to our recent opponents - all have been mid to lower league. The exception was Barnsley and we were well beaten.

Things about to get much tougher in mid December and the ultimate tests in January. Let's see what we do in our run of consecutive games against those around us now. Exciting times though.

Thanks for the hint - I've just put it into my work calendar for Monday 6th May, to double check. Good thing I've copied the post quote, just in case I can't find it ;)

In my slightly pessimistic mind the Bradford game has got “shock defeat” headlines written all over it. We are on superb form, them less so but picked up a decent result at the weekend, brought in a couple of experienced heads as well of late who might dig them out of the hole. A smaller point but the weather looks grim and not conducive to our sort of game either! Lack of centre halves judging from comments above but looking at the squad of players they seem better than bottom of the table on paper at least. Despite the 3-1 win we weren’t exactly on top of our game either so hopefully that serves to keep feet on the ground.

Reminds me of some of the conference games where we would go in as universally agreed favourites only to flop somehow. Better side now and importantly better manager but the scarring remains!

Don’t think the side can really be changed again, strange to say given how important he has been to us but I don’t think it can be justified getting Hylton back in the side unless someone is knackered or injured from the weekend and Justin was again very good at left back so Potts will have to wait a while longer. Shinnie has really stepped up of late to the extent that he seems to have surpassed Grant in that role now also. We have quite a settled feel about us now but the bench should be strong too if we need to change it.

I said before the Plymouth game that I thought it would be trickier than expected so now I’ve inferred that here too I’ll be hoping for the same result!
