2 shots on target (in the entire game) from 25 yards out for Gills and they score both.

We've now lost our last 2 home games to Scunthorpe & Gillingham. We're going down, that is a fact.

I'm coming down for our game in April and a night out after, if we are both down by then we can have a relegation party.

This pattern of being solid if not spectacular seems to be sticking at Pompey. Most of our games lately have ended in an apparently nervy (at least for the crowd) last 20 minutes with a one (occasionally two) goal lead, in which we seem to sit back and invite pressure.. and yet despite that, we rarely concede and seem to deal with everything that comes our way. Case in point being last night against Walsall, who had a long period of sustained pressure in the second half, yet ended up with no shots on target.

This month will be key in showing if we’ve been riding our luck somewhat, or we’re actually a team that’s built on solidity at the back. I’m starting to believe more in the latter.. so I look forward to the 0-3 losses against Charlton, Barnsley and Sunderland.

What a game that will be. Can we draw -1 each?

Just had a look at your team last night looking out for Payne and Wright specifically. No Wright in the squad at all has he been completely bombed or is he injured? Payne on the bench after scoring at the weekend? Class player is Payne but I guess not the sort you want when times are hard at the wrong end of the table.

From what I understand, Robins is playing him as a link man behind the main striker? Both Jackett and Cook before him tried to play him that way and he's just not effective in that role.

I can only see Chaplin being successful in a 4-4-2 playing alongside a powerful striker. It's just that so few teams play with two out-and-out strikers anymore, so it may be that he will disappear into the wilderness.

Do you still have an option to not buy him in January or is it already agreed? (fingers crossed)
I just don't really understand what the point of him is. He refuses to get into the box, he refuses to shoot, he's not pacey enough to make up for his height and he can't finish. I can't believe we're paying half a million for him at this level, it's absolutely obscene.

Wright - Absolute disgrace of a player, puts no effort in and when he does it's shit. He started the season as captain and that's led to fans calling him the worst we've ever had. He was totally left out of the squad last night, behind a 20 year old who's just come back from injury, that tells you all you need to know.

Payne - Our best player, had a slight knock last night so don't think Hopkin wanted to risk him from the start in a game we were always unlikely to get anything from.

Sounds like Chaplin hasn't improved from what we saw last season.

I agree, he's small and not particularly quick, which means he needs to be exceptional in other areas. However, I'm surprised that he's refusing to get in the box and shoot. A couple of years ago his goals / minutes ratio was good and he looked fearless and single-minded in front of goal, often one step ahead in out-thinking defenders.

Maybe we were fooled and League Two is as far as he will go. He still has time to fulfil some of that early promise but he'll be 22 in February so not a kid anymore.

Chaplin clearly has ability but it's not working for him.

As mentioned before, he can't finish, he's not quick, he hasn't formed a partnership with Clarke-Harris and his movement is poor.

Robins has spent nearly a million quid on Chaplin, Bakayoko and Jordy Hiwula ffs.

We did warn you about Wright, but Firthy said it would be OK lol

He also said I was exaggerating about how much shit we were in, and about our owners. But hey ho a few months later we are in the nationals for the wrong reasons and bottom of the league. So there is that.

This is something which annoyed me so much about our summer recruitment, that previous fans slated so many of our new recruits yet we’re here signing them all up and wondering why we’re the worst side in the entire football league.
Don’t get me wrong I know fans opinions on players are often OTT especially online, but there were often too many bells ringing not to take note, such as Josh Wright who is one of the worst we’ve ever had (see Barnsley’s second goal in the JPT this season against us where he runs along side their man for about thirty yards without even attempting a tackle). We signed a keeper from Cardiff, Ben Wilson, he has his own bloopers video on YouTube from previous seasons, but we’ll have him. Hope Akpan, lazy AF, we’ll have him. Eoin Doyle, Preston fans queueing up to get rid of him, we’ll have some of that. I’m just glad those who made such signings are either going or have gone.

I saw on the local news your manager was recently given a vote of confidence by the owner, might soon change if the fans turn on him i imagine,id rather you stayed up as most of my mates in Wells are Gasheads and i'd miss the banter when playing you.

I think Luton are a good side but I wouldn't crown them world beaters just yet. The highest placed team they've beat is 11th place Accrington.

.

Pretty misleading that if I may say so. Four of our wins have been against teams who were above us in the league at the time, Accrington, Walsall, Scunthorpe and Southend, two of whom were then in play-off positions, and all in the top half.
(Clearly losing to us destroyed their confidence and started their slide down the table.)

It's like saying that Man C are useless as they only ever beat teams below them in the table.

I was surprised when you signed him and assumed he'd just be a squad player, then you made him captain...

And in reality we’ve played almost everyone by definition. We’re 20 games in.

I see that Portsmouth are still to play Barnsley, Sunderland and Charlton at all. That will see if they can maintain top spot.

Our manager took us from the conference & back to L1 in 11th place in 3 years. Although no one is happy with us right now, I'd say still 80% of the fan base believe in the manager to either turn it round, or take us back up if we get relegated. It's about time we stuck with a manager for once.

I'd say 99% of fans though are completely against the owners and want them out, they're the real problem unfortunately.

I get your point, however...

A quick look at games vs the current top 10:

Pompey: Played 6 - Points 12 (avg 2 points per game)
Luton: Played 8 - Points 4 (avg 0.5 points per game)

I think we'll know alot more after we travel to Luton. 8 league games in that period 4 home 4 away.
Southend, Charlton, Sunderland, AFC Wimbledon at home, Barnsley, Gills, Fleetwood and Luton away. 5 win, 2 draws and a loss would be hard, but on recent form this season, is acheivable. 17 points would take us to 61 points just after the half way point and would no doubt increase the distance between us and 3rd. We are already 6 points above Luton with a game in hand and having to play them is a decent place to be in. A few poor results can change that though especially if we need to rotate as the squad players haven't got many minutes as yet. Still nice to be there to be shot at

Seems fairly likely that our game will have to be re-arranged given one of us is likely to get through in the cup. Probably a good thing for us as our January fixtures are not very kind!

The last thing anybody needs with winter coming is any fixture congestion...the squad is buzzing and the fan base is more positive than the beginning of the season.
If NJ maintains his current policy of not tinkering about as often then I reckon the team and squad will relish playing as many games as possible...
There is definitely an option of starting a regular team with the back up of a strong bench to mix it up....
Injuries permitting....

I hope Luton keep winning. In an uncertain world they're one of the few teams keeping my accas afloat.

Portsmouth deserve a lot if credit. Been top all season and deservedly so. Built it seems the old fashioned way, a bit like Arsenal of old, with a solid defense and efficiency. Maybe not spectacular, often winning by an odd goal they have the knack of finding wins. That's the mark of champions. You can only beat what's in front of you in terms of what the fixture list throws at you.

Clark is the only thing holding your club together Gassy WTGR. Lose him and you are proper screwed.
While we're not very good in the division upstairs, you lot seem to be about to implode given the silence from WAQ and the utter drivel your Chairman was spouting on 'Having a gas' last week. It was unbelievably bad!
Asset stripping by the Al Q's maybe?

Exactly this.

They remind me of us in 2012, just getting the job done without being spectacular. We weren’t great to watch necessarily but only lost 5 games the entire season by being solid and efficient. We won the league with 101 points, I’m sure Portsmouth would be happy with that.

Hello pal, been a while!

It seems as though you lot are just inconsistent though right? (from a distance). Seems like mid table is nailed on as you started well, dropped off & now its on off on off?

DC absolutely has to stay, we're sinking incredibly quickly. Whilst DC is also to blame for not motivating his players at times, if he left we'd be down by Christmas. It shows how pathetic it is when a City fan can spot the bullsh*t coming from our chairman!

PS, what does WTGR stand for? I had to google in and the results were Wild- Type Glucocorticoid Receptor. I hope you're not calling me a Wild- Type Glucocorticoid Receptor

Watcha bud, I hope you're well.
WTGR stands for 'with the greatest respect'.
That interview was mind boggling TBH, Hamer said an awful lot of words but actually said bugger all. I would be extremely concerned if I were one of your lot. In his defence, I get the impression he's just a mouthpiece for WAQ anyway. Where the bloody hell has he disappeared to?
We'll stumble around in the bottom half of the Championship with LJ in charge but will get enough to survive I should think, more due to the ineptness of other teams rather than us being any good. If LJ is eventually moved out, who knows where we could go.
Bad times to be a Bristol football fan, even the rugby boys are in trouble! :(
