Think we've paid the linesman off there.

Not gonna complain though, and there's plenty of time for Luton to get back in it.

Looking very much like a title challenger v a comfy mid table side this, which is to be expected I suppose! Calmness in the final third the difference

We have lost our way now passes all over the place etc. whereas Barnsley are enjoying themselves pinging it about nicely. Pelly having is worst game of the season so far too, all over the place and can’t deal with their midfield movement.

Deserved that goal I think, Luton have looked good going forward and obviously should have had a goal earlier when it was wrongly ruled off side. Hit the post with a free kick and flashed a header just wide as well.

Overall through can't argue with Barnsley being ahead, they have some classy attackers who look like they easily have the beating of Luton's defence.

Seems to me it's quite common to see goals go straight thru a gangly ungainly dancing on ice Sonny Bradley. Barnsley look good going forward and in possession. Equal to Peterborough in their half hour demolition of us and they demolished them last week.

Deserved win for Barnsley their midfield just dominated us especially in the first half and overall they just looked a better side for me, knocked it around nicely, didn’t give the ball
Away with any sloppiness like we seem too in the final 3rd all to often. Pleased we didn’t capitulate and if the linesman was half decent it might have been a different game if we had managed to get back level.

The strike for the 3rd was wonderful, absolutely woeful, woeful defensively from us in the lead up again to concede from our throw on, but can’t argue that’s a wonderful strike. Sums up the game really in that Barnsley have had the quality to punish our errors whereas we haven’t.

We did a bit better in the second half in containing their midfield but didn’t truely looked like getting an equaliser and with their quality you always felt like it was them more likely they will score. Pleased Collins got another goal though and we kept going.

At least Danny Hylton has made an appearance, we need to be better in the final 3rd of the pitch if we want to compete this season and maybe he could help us with that when back properly.

Deserved win for Barnsley, best side we've played. Midfield was so strong compared to ours which was very depleted which, were everyone fit, would probably have had McCormack, Berry and Lee all starting.
Defending very poor from us, no pace at Centre Half. We'll get away with it against some sides but we need to look at dropping Rea back in there for one of them. Pearsons clearance for the third should have gone into the stands. We cant keep letting sides score 2+.
The officials. Christ. The disallowed goal is tight, but onside. The offside for Cornick a minute later, clearly onside. Headlock on Hylton not a penalty apparently. Lets all pray for Alex Mowatt after McCormacks shin assaulted Mowatts studs. Hope he's ok.
Not too down, confident we'll take 4-6 points in the next 10 days.
Classy from Cam stopping for a photo with Nicky, top bloke.
Up the fucking Hats.

In a way I was pleased for McGeehan today, had a bit of a shit time of it I suspect after breaking his leg. The goal clearly meant a lot to him and he looked really good again. A real part of a quality midfield they have.

Saw that picture with Nicky too, really nice touch. Once a hatter always a hatter I guess!

Nothing but respect for Cam. Always conducted himself well and stayed longer than he should have. Fair play to him. Suprised he plays so deeo for Barnsley but the goal was classic McGeehan arriving late in the box.

Good game at Oakwell against a decent Luton side. I think we deserved to win but at the same time got a bit lucky with the goal that never was and Lindsay's pull on Hylton in the box near the end. Chuffed we've got the 3 points after the last couple of home games. Luton will have a good chance at challenging for the top 6 imo.

I’d argue we’re amonsgt the best of the rest, because I think it’s clear that we’re not really in the same league as some of the top top teams in this division. I’d say it’s good steady progress - in 152 games that Jonesy has been here, we have gained about 30 places on where we were when he joined. If we can challenge top 6 great and not unachievable by any means, but upper mid table is good for me.

Not too disappointed. I predicted a narrow defeat and that's exactly how it turned out. But for a couple of bad referring decisions we could have snatched the draw which to be fair would have been harsh on Barnsley. Barnsley have a squad with a lot of quality in it and with championship experience and it showed. We on the other hand have players with mostly league 2 experience and at times you could see the difference in class. We were often second to the ball and generally a bit sluggish in our play. Many of our players are still developing and this is exactly the type of game which they will learn from. Still a lot of positives though. We played some neat and tidy football, created chances and scored two goals. I think NJ is getting a clearer idea of what we need to improve.

Confounds me that we can dominate a game so much and then become absolutely terrified after conceding one. Game management doesn’t seem to be a strength of ours, despite the fact we just managed to hang on..

edit: On reflection I sound like a moany bugger, we were class in the first half and our back 4 were rocks, despite insisting on hoofing every ball that came their way

Yeah that was a strange game. Dominated a terrible team until a lax bit of play gifted them a goal back and then it was almost like a role switch and we were hanging on in the end.

Still, that's 19 points from 21 away from home now and that kind of away record is unheard of for Pompey!

First 30 minutes totally outclassed the Shrews 2-0 up, could / should have been 4/5 and cruising, and that it what the Cods then did. We sat back and allowed the Shrews to come into the game. Second half more of the same, allowing the Shrews to get a goal back. 30+ minutes of butt clenching followed, with the knowing feeling that they would get a second. We have a bit of an effort for the last 10 minutes which put the Shrews on the back foot again before we somehow got over the line.

Overall good but we could be doing a lot better.

Thankfully 3 easier games coming up, Portsmouth away, Peterborough away, and Blackpool home.

It's amazing how one moment can completely flip a game. The three substitutions from Ardley were also a gamble that nearly paid off, so you have to credit Wimbledon for turning it around as well. If the rest of the team could just stay calm and follow Ben Thompson's lead of taking a moment to assess the game in possession, then maybe I'd still have nails.

I do bloody love this team though, they're a great combination of hard nuts with a bit of silk in between. Surreal start to the season, bar 02/03 this feels completely alien. The next two home games will be very interesting, they look tough, even without our dodgy home performances being a factor. Joey will get a warm welcome with open arms I'm sure.

Barnsley looked good today (as did Luton at times, just far less clinical), as they have whenever I've seen them, I'm expecting them to be right up there soon.

All those fairly big teams at the top of League One and then you have Accrington and Fleetwood just behind them.

Joey Barton seems to be doing well for his first job so far although you feel some drama is around the corner!

Worst team we've had since the team that nearly went down in League 2.

We are absolutely disgraceful. Nothing in defence, nothing in midfield, nothing upfront. Hopkin has a huge job on his hands to keep this lot up.

First half clearly the better side but didn't score. Out of nowhere Southend turn into 70s Brazil for 15 seconds to fashion an opening, which Cox put past Holy with the aid of a deflection. 90 seconds later our midfield fucked off to leave Southend essentially clean through from half way, and again Cox squeezed one past Holy. Should've had a penalty when Oxley clattered Wilkinson, and Eaves mis-timed a header from close in which really should've been one back. Not a lot else from either side, bar a header from Byrne and nearly a third on the break which deflected onto the bar.

Southend aren't a good side, which makes today more annoying. Cox is decent up front (despite being a diving little fucker) but the midfield is functional not spectacular, and the defence is alright. They didn't beat us today through a gulf in class, we just shot ourselves in the foot. We're an average at best side, which we were first half but not in the second. We don't have game-changers in the squad, so we NEED to score first to stand any chance. We've got a few unavailable at the minute, with Parker on International duty to add to injuries for Regan Charles-Cook and Brandon Hanlan - not to mention both Gabby Zakuani and Dean Parrett picking up fresh knocks today. The squad we have IS good enough to compete as last week showed, but the home form is an embarassment.

We've got Bradford at home soon, that'll be fun.

I'm still expecting Barnsley to be the biggest threat in this division. We really need to start winning at home again but will be wary of how dangerous Fleetwood and Burton can be.
