We still had an outside chance of the play offs so we wanted to play on. We voted against it purely because the cost of taking all staff off of Furlough, staging matches, policing, medical care, testing etc. meant that with no income there was a very real risk to the club’s future.
We are a pretty well run club (which our fans often moan about) but it still couldn’t be done without some sort of financial assistance from EPL, EFL or FA, which as we know was never forthcoming.
Exactly the same position and reason why we voted against it, if the season had finished we may well have gone out of business

A little bit of clarity on the embargo.

Thanks for that. There but for the grace of God . . .

Cheers Bobbin. That looks a bit more promising. Sorry another question, does that mean your two new players can only be paid a maximum of £1300 a week or are you able to pay these two up to £2k, but any subsequent transfers are maxed at the lower figure?

They can pay them what they like as long as the squad total doesn’t exceed £2.5m

Not 100% sure, I think these two may be being paid more than £2k as they had signed before the cap and have been allowed to go through with a bit of negotiation with the EFL.

From that article, it suggests that clubs can only pay new signings up to £2k but at the moment we can only go up to £1.3k.

But see the article and bobbins response below. You may be right you may be wrong, the point I am making is that it is not crystal clear, as if they are making it up as they go along.

I think the position is £2.5m divided by 22 to get the average wage, all players signed before the cap will be allocated this salary for the purpose of the cap, in respect to salaries it’s up to the club how much they pay each player as long as you don’t exceed £2.5m. The way around it is in bonus payments which don’t count

Bonus payments do count, as do agents fees, image rights and any other payments to playing staff. Per EFL official press release.

When calculating total salary spending, the ‘cap’ includes:

  • Basic Wages;
  • Taxes;
  • Bonuses;
  • Image rights;
  • Agents’ fees and;
  • Other fees and expenses paid directly or indirectly to all registered players.

    From the EFL website

Lowe claimed on Thursday that several clubs had already exceeded £2.5 million, saying one had spent £4 million and then recently brought in 3 additional players.

Its meant to be fines directly linked to the overspend total and/or transfer embargoes.
It’s hardly a deterrent for some clubs, a points deduction would hurt more and probably be more of a deterrent, cheers for the info

On new players?

Also, this is the first time I’ve been posting on here this year and I remember why, the site is still completely unusable!

Dont Sunderland have over 40+players? No way is the budget going to be anywhere near 2.5 million.

That was the implication, I think he mentioned this fact twice in his press conference, so he obviously thinks someone is being naughty.

Our budget will end up being around 40% down on last season according to our CEO on the radio yesterday. That's probably down to part salary cap introduction, part Covid rather the just one or the other.

So it sounds like all the EFL games are able to be streamed until grounds are back up to 50% capacity. There's a vote next week on how to distribute the money in L1 but the Championship and L2 seem to be adopting the same set-up they always have done. I'm not sure all 92 Clubs use the iFollow though?

Championship - Whoever sells the game keeps the money i.e. which 'Player' you go through or via their own platform.

League One - The proposal is to base it on last seasons away attendances. So the home club will keep sales through their own 'Player' but only keep away sales up the figure the team brought last season. So, for example, when we play Shrewsbury they'll keep the sales up until 600. Anything over and above that Lincoln will get.

League Two - Home club keeps the money

We've received a conditional grant of £1m towards the expansion of the Stacey West Stand, which is good news. Still on course to do that next summer.

Locking this considering it goes back to 2018 + 170 pages. Opening a new thread for this weekends matches.
