We used to have consistently between 5,000 - 6,500 in L1. No idea what we get these days as they stopped announcing the figures after Covid (I wonder why!). Would guess more like 3,500 - 4,000 for another L2 season off the back of our worst ever season in our existence

Mental that back in our Championship days the most we ever sold was I think around 3200, those teams we had back then deserved at least the numbers that we are getting now and more yet our fans never appreciated just how good we had it then, if we suddenly morphed back to that time now with our current fan base we would have to be putting those extra temporary seats in as we would be completely selling out ever week.

I'm suprised we have sold so many so early after last season tbh . They only go up £20 quid through June so wonder if we can get close to our record with some decent signings etc
I don't really want to break our record, difficult enough getting a seat last season with a decent view if you hadn't got a season ticket like me.

Probably the best thing for us to do before investing too much is waiting for safe standing to be a proper thing and then investing when we can do that.
Agree completely. I think we were the worst affected club by the Taylor Report in terms of % of capacity lost; our capacity went from 17k to 8.5 as the open terrace corners couldn’t be converted. As is often the case in this country, the legislation was complete overkill. Smaller stadia should have had at least a partial exemption, to require GTFC to demolish the terrace corners was ridiculous and they could never have been unsafe in any way like Leppings Lane. Safe standing linking the Main to the Pontoon would be my number one priority.

Yeah early bird extended. Mine still cost me £450 and that's not the most expensive.
Mine's £435. Being able to pay in installments helps.

I shouldn't laugh but 17k to 8.5k is undeniably funny. I didn't realise the drop was to that extent.

I hope Grimbo do something to increase the number of spectators who can actually see the whole pitch. They would be perfect for a new stadium in a new location but I realise that's just a pipedream.

If we'd been shit and in a lower division we wouldn't have had to get involved with the Taylor Report, but we were in the second tier and had to conform, bloody stupid really. That and a few years later the TV money not coming did for us!

I think about 11 to 12k capacity would be about right for us . Imagine if the 21k pipe dream had happened it would have been terrible atmosphere wise

We’d have to lose the fan zone to get to 12k. We’d still be restricting away fans to 1,800 with the fan zone in place.

If you settle for 11,000 capacity you more or less settle for L1 as the height of ambition. I fully agree about atmosphere and oversized grounds, I've been in Meadow Lane, 20k capacity with under 2,500 against Barnet for a league game and it's terrible. MK Dons this season at their place was ridiculously empty and away at Bradford wasn't great either despite the official attendance it was largely empty. But, we now have an upturn in our fortunes with a couple of 15-16k crowds a season not out of the question and it does sort of elevate your ambitions to thinking that our ground is the right size for us and I'm glad we have the capacity.

Heard we passed 14,000 sales last week, but no official announcement.

That means we’ve shifted another 500+ tickets at £349-£529.

Been discussed before but it really wouldn't be anywhere near as bad if more ST holders not turning up actually used the resale scheme.

As mentioned above, I don't think there would have been anyone else as royally shafted by the combo of Taylor Report and ITV Digital crash as we were.

Not sure if you're talking about all stands or not when you talk about visibility, but if you're just talking away end then other than taking the roof off there isn't a whole lot that can be done to be honest. Just get there early if you're one of the few clubs that sell out the away end is my advice! I've always said that yep that must be massively annoying as an away fan but on the flipside, if you're not one of the unlucky ones on the back rows then a packed out Osmond End is a great stand for making a right old racket.

Fucking ITV Digital  I remember we couldn’t honour the contracts that we had and in particular Danny Butterfield, he loved it here and said that he would happily take a pay cut to stay, (what a guy) but we could not offer him anything so he left for Palace and went to the Premier League with them.
Without that mess we would never have ended up as low as we did with the 2 stints in non league, I don’t for a second think we would still be in the Championship now but our decline would have been much slower and more gradual instead of the double relegation from Championship straight to League 2.

Saying that though we get better gates now so maybe being crap and in League 2 is what our town was really crying out for. :bg:

Don’t mention ITV Digital, FFS. We lost circa £10m worth of revenue when they went bust.

One of the key reasons why went from the Prem to L2 in just 6 years and have struggled ever since.

I quite enjoy league 2, 1 and NL even outside of supporting town with the sub plots , signings clubs etc the Champ and Prem I have no real interest in and have not for about 15 years tbh . I would rather see what's happening at County , Bradford , Crewe etc than what is at utd , Liverpool or City . I don't know if the champ or higher is a realistic aim for us or many in this league even with a bigger ground - the amount clubs lose at those levels seems silly and some clubs are put at risk - I would rather settle for a lower level that I enjoy without the club at any risk - i think mid to lower end league 1 should be a realistic ambition for us though . I would be happy with that but know some wouldn't .

It will be interesting how things shape up in general over the next few years and if clubs continue to get in a mess + if the regulator actually happens .

I've been in 3 stands in BP, but I was on about in general not just the away end. How many seats do you think currently have a restricted view to some degree?

Over the last twenty years we've pretty much mirrored you, wallowing in the nether regions of the pyramid with a dip into the scrapheap league. Like you I'm way more interested in lower league and non league than the Premier league which now looks pretty much impossible without a huge spend from owners and so distant that barring goals and highlights I don't pay much attention. I actually didn't know a couple of names in the latest England squad and had to look them up as I'd never seen or heard of them.
Having said that, promotion pushes are exciting and I think we have enough in place to push for L1 playoffs sometime in the future as long as the owners remain.
Seen Notts in five divisions now and I can't honestly say I was happier in the top division than in the National League although if we'd had terrible years down there like Scunny and Stockport did I probably wouldn't have quite the mellow view of it, I certainly don't want to go back, very easy to get marooned down there for years.

Winning promotion from any league is obviously fantastic and almost always fun. Winning promotion at Wembley to the top flight after doing the same the previous year at the National Stadium when you are at a 'football mad' age is hard to beat. I'm rightly very proud to have seen us play in 5 divisions including playing the best the country has to offer.

I still pay attention to the Premier League, and at the top end the football is incredible, worlds apart from what we all witness but it's so money driven, TV driven and swiftly moving to a closed shop with widening mini leagues within it that it's not easy to love it. The Championship is now the realistic dream.

Would hate to wallow in non league like Wrexham did and become a permanent fixture, or crash through and drop below the 5th tier like many did but as mentioned above now we have escaped they were overall fun seasons all ending in playoff games before that one truly amazing season.

Likewise.

Although I do think we should at least be equivalent to a Barnsley/Rotherham, yo-yoing between L1 and the Championship. I'm not saying we're the worst team to support, we've had some good times since I started watching us in 95, but we must pound for pound be the biggest underachievers when you take city size and other factors into account. We've been chronically mismanaged throughout almost our entire history.

Slightly different to your view.

Very little interest in the Premiership and don't recognise half the players names now as don't watch it.

I do enjoy the Championship though and hope to see Bradford City play there again one day. It's certainly a level we should be able to realistically aim for with the right ownership.

For now, happy to strive for league 1. I don't think I could cope with relegation to non league though, that must be a dreadful feeling worrying about when, or if, you would get back to the football league.

I remember the days when you had to seek re-election to the football league and you had to wait for your local paper to report on the meeting that decided your fate. Our neighbours Bradford Park Avenue lost their football league status this way in 1970, if I remember correctly, Cambridge Utd took their place.

Some of our friends on here from Barrow may be old enough to remember them suffering this fate I believe in 1972?, Hereford taking their place on the back of a good cup run, not down to where they finished in the non league tables.

I believe Southport were the last team to lose their football league place under the re-election process with Wigan taking their place.

it's difficult to quantify but I would say north of 500 possibly even 1k ,all the back few rows of the main stand are awful views as you have to duck down to see the pitch . Same with the back few rows in the osmond /away end .

That's were the capacity issue comes in we will clear probably 5.5k season tickets or whatever leaving just the bad view seats for walk ups in the actual home end - and loads of empty seats weekly because ST holders don't turn up and probably quite a few only buy 1 for a % of games so they have a decent seat . There is a release your seat scheme but it doesn't seem to have a great take up . It would be a right mess if we actually ever do well in the league but recent history suggests that's unlikely lol

Nobody thinks they're going to cope with non league but when it happens you just do. You quickly adjust to going to Woking as second favourite and being content with a hard earned point at Dover.
