Just imagine the meltdown on twitter if that sort of thing was to happen again now in this day and age.

This was also responsible for the formation of Leeds United!

Ironically we got expelled under Stanley Matthews but instantly re elected in the late 60s. Think Bury fans used that as a template for their argument to stay in the EFL although ours was in relation to payments which we didn’t declare in error or something and had then admitted once it was apparent we’d broken a rule.

Imagine if you finished in 6th place in second tier before play offs with only two promoted and get elected to top tier because you pay someone and move ground from south of the river Thames to Highbury.

How about getting relegated because of match fixing by 'the Lancashire Ring'? Football League investigate and ban the Blackburn chairman from football for life but still relegate us. Everton were in the plot too.

Crewe and Hartlepool obviously have very nice chocolates they sent out every late April to survive 10 and 11 times respectively.

Old pals act though I guess in fear it was your turn next year... seemed to only be a few times teams lost places.

Couple of interesting things in the 'General Notes' part of that doc.

Quote -
''In the 1919/20 season, Leeds City were expelled from the league after eight rounds and their results were inherited by Port Vale, who took their divisional place. The results of those eight games are included in the records of Port Vale.''

Like what the actual fuck???

Quote -
''The Division Four game in the 1973/74 season between Scunthorpe United and Exeter City, which was never played, is here calculated as 0-0 but a win for Scunthorpe and a loss against Exeter, because Scunthorpe were awarded the points when Exeter failed to turn up.''

I thought I'b better google up some more info first before rushing to a hasty conclusion and declaring Exeter as tinpot, and I found this - https://www.exetercityfc.co.uk/news/2018/october/-city-by-number-no.8/

Fair enough. Exeter, you're not tinpot.

Quote -
''Former names of clubs (league appearances only):
Chesterfield: Chesterfield Town, Chesterfield Municipal
Hartlepool United: Hartlepools United, Hartlepool
Leyton Orient: Clapton Orient, Orient''

I don't have to google anything this time. Proper tinpot.
That article says that as of 2018 this was the only time a league fixture went uncompleted. Didn't Blackpool v Huddersfield in the Championship also go uncompleted a few years before 2018 though... that game on the last day of the season that was abandoned due to a pitch invasion against Oyston by relegated Blackpool fans.

Tbf when talking of tinpot scale Cambridge have spent 77/108 years of your existence in non league, a lot of that in pub leagues with the name Abbey United. I would say that makes you a traditional tinpotter tbh.

We took the unusual step of starting our official history when we changed our name from Shaddongate United to Carlisle United, for example we give our own date of formation as 1904, instead of 1897.

I think all clubs should follow our lead. Cambridge can therefore take 1951 as their new year of formation. Hartlepool can have 1977... this means losing most of their history but I've had a look and it's really nothing to mourn.

How does changing your name and then changing it back work? Asking for a friend.

We did ok with Port Vale then Burslem Port Vale (briefly Hanley Port Vale) and back again! (and nearly Stoke North End!)

That's not what caught my eye in that article, what did was the £1,334 that Exeter had to pay Scunny to cover the match day expenses, and that figure does seem a tad on the high side for a 4th div match back in 1974(?)

Back to your point, you're right of course, though that Blackpool game was only abandoned at ht. I think what the author of that piece means is that theirs was the only postponed game to not get scheduled to a later date when the league wasn't over yet.

Correct. And it was only after the name change to CUFC in the early 50's, and more so in the early 60's, that the club started to look at the possibility of joining the FL.

But I have never claimed that we are a proper club. Nor have I ever said FGR are tinpot either. How could I when I don't even believe that clubs should be labelled' proper' or 'tinpot'? Tbh though, I do use the word proper sometimes when referring to certain clubs but what I really mean by that is the club in question is a well established one with more than 500 fans.

TBF to Pools, their history is a fascinating one. For ex, they had this chairman in the 60's used to raise chickens in a couple of rooms under the main stand  Iirc this was in one of Cloughie's books.

Go back even further and those pesky Germans bombed one of our stands during WW1, club tried for years to get compo for it.

The Mighty Mariners are 24th in the HOME table, but down in 43rd for the AWAY one.

I don't think the tables should include sides that haven't played at least 100 seasons in the proper divisions, too many tin-pot upstarts these days!:fish::fish:

Not really. Think everyone knows that there are only five Proper Clubs in this division already, don’t they? Six when the Walsall upstarts gain membership at the end of the season.

Must be more than five surely that have done 100?

Be interesting to know how any there are in the top 3 tiers. Pretty sure we aren't one of them.
Guessing about 88-90.
