Same situation with my club, last season when I was 2's captain we cancelled 9 of 18 league games due to lack of players (has put me off being captain for life) and this season we finished 4th in our league only once not fielding 11 players (when it was 10). Then a team down the road has 4 teams easily.

We had to concede 3 games and turned up with 7 on two occasions, and only put out a full 11 three or for times.
(and we weren't even the worst in our division)

They can all go to hell as far as I am concerned
Suppose it helps I play at a fairly small ground and I'm one of the biggest hitters at the club, so often the ground isn't big enough when just hitting with spin, I probably hit the most 6's each season 1's or 2's. I've hit a few rooftops next to our pitch, this season I hit a 6 over midwicket and over our big 10 metre ish nets and just saw it going towards a guys house thinking only 'ahhhhhhhh shit'

Bromyard 's ground is ridiculous , the one boundary is so close a mistimed clip off the hip goes for six . Few years ago me and one of the openers put on 170 between us out of a total of 241 in 20 overs and still lost . The boundary is literally next to the square

I haven't hit a six since 1999, and that was because I was playing on a ground the size of a postage stamp.

Our ground is pretty big, even with the boundaries brought in 15 yards this year

Ours isn't much bigger, considering the 2's are never usually in the middle either, one side will be pretty small, the other maybe just bigger than a normal boundary elsewhere. I'll still take on the bigger boundary at home though, got to back yourself

I bowl best at home, as well as up hill surprisingly being one of very few at the club who prefer bowling uphill.

A remarkable finish for our first team yesterday. We (Crofty/Holman) had set Wendron 192 to win. They had reached 190 for 5.................and lost by 1 run. Our slow bowler, who already scored 43 off 18 balls, took 5 wickets in 5 balls !!

Saturday was horrendous. We had Rufford 50/4 after 23 overs in a 45 over match. They went on to make 257/7 with number 6 scoring 107 off 45 balls. We then got skittled for 97. Fucking hate cricket on days like that.

I umpired for the 2nd XI, and we got nowhere near our target of 172, crawling to an eventual 100 for 8, which included a ninth wicket partnership of 56 !! Our opener made 37no in 40 overs :ffs:

This pitch is reminding me of our one from Saturday, playing away we won the toss and bowled first, from one end the ball was popping from anywhere and moving out of a crack on a decent length, from the other it was a bit more even, but one yorker kicked up from pitching inside the crease and went over the keepers head. I came on after 6 overs or so and bowled my 8 straight through and got 1-38, bowling at the two guys who were in for the main part of my spell having got the #3 early. They were 118/2 at 20 overs and halfway point, but finished on 178/9, had 10 overs or so at the end bowling at guys who couldn't bat. We went at 4 an over pretty much all the way and I came in at 7 with 32 needed off 8 overs, I was taking 1's and 2's without many dots, the problem being the guy at the other end was trying (and failing) to hit everything out the ground instead of taking 1's and 2's and reducing the total. He got out with 14 needed off 3.4 overs left, the kid who came in couldn't put bat on ball for the rest of the over. 38th over I straight drive the first ball for 4, pick fielders and defend one or two, two balls left and their skipper bowls be a full toss which gets dispatched for 6 over long on, thinking I'll try and nudge the ball for 1 to stay on strike he then bowls me one down leg which I clip away for 4. 23 not out in the end.

Well you can't get any more miserable than playing for my team, who are currently bottom of Division 5 West in Cornwall, 20+ points behind 2nd bottom. I am 51 and yet nowhere near the oldest player in our side. The one game we did win properly (with nine men) was taken off us because we should have fulfilled a 1st team fixture instead.

I personally have 35 runs @7.00. with one catch

Not much better this year, we are 8th in a 10 team Division 6, with one actual win and 2 games conceded to us. At least we are putting 11 men out there most weeks

I personally have 36 runs @ 6.00.

Been a struggle for us this year. After getting relegated from the Premier League last season we lost our opening batter and best in the league to retirement and have been struggling to get 11 most weeks. 9 points from safety with 5 games left.

We're in 4th at the moment with 3 games left which are against the top 3, win this weekend and we move into 3rd, we then play top of the league away and then 2nd at our place which could be a promotion decider.

I have two claims to cricket fame; one is a hat trick (I'm in the league handbook every year for life now) and the other is that the second last wicket I ever took was a youth who became a man now playing in the EFL Championship.

I won the 2nd team Sportsman of the Year award at our presentation evening last Friday. It is basically a 'Thanks for turning up trophy'. Ironically, I wasn't there to collect it.
