Well our lads were comprehensively beaten in their national semi final today in Cardiff! Shame not to defend our trophy but still a good achievement none the less.

Played Falmouth 3rd XI yesterday, and their opening bat scored 208no with 19x6 and 11x4 off 115 balls. He also lost 5 balls in the process.

We were all out for 64

We had our annual 6 a side tournament (1st teamer, 2nd teamer, sunday player, ladies player, junior and 1 other per team) and then the club presentation evening yesterday, my team ended up winning the 6 a side comp, we bowled a team out for 13 in the first game, 1st team skipper got sent back by the junior and got run out for 6  the their other 1st team player didn't face a ball (usually 2 of our 3 top run scorers). So yeah, 1st game won, won our 2nd game comfortably so through to the final with ease. In the final we kept the opposition to 37 and I got 25* Hit the first team spinner for two 6's in a row in that game.

Then won 2nd team player of the year in the evening, highest wicket taker with 26 wickets, 12.5 average and just over 3 an over economy. Batting I was second highest run scorer with 353 in 8 innings, 4 not outs, two tons, two 49's, average of 88. Was like 9 runs short of my highest runs total in a season batting lest than half a season.

To counteract that, both of our sides were relegated, because we are completely pony.

I ended up with 88 runs @ 11 and two catches

I played on Sunday , first time for ages . The pitch was rank but I managed to get 36 before being bowled by a 15 year old ! We got 134 of our 20 overs . Bowled them out for 52 , I got 3 for 16 of my 4 overs but the ball was going sideways by then . I'm hoping to commit a bit more next season and hopefully play a few games for the first team especially in 20/20 . Not sure if my knees would hold up for an entire season but playing against pensioners and kids is a bit embarrassing since I'm only 35

Now I'm back at home I'm playing for Wells where I live, want to push on to playing for the 1's as 2nd team gets annoying when we don't do everything to win to make sure everyone gets a game (basically what the Sunday side is for) and we missed out on promotion by a win or two. But it's also just too easy in a way.

It's shit when you want to run the team properly and people Are just having a laugh . I want to commit a bit more and play for the firsts next season . Mainly because being bowled or hit for six by a 15 year old is a bit embarrassing

Yeah it really is, it's a case I either had to be a top order batsman and not bowl, or open the bowling and bat at 6/7. I'm easily the best bowler in the team so get bowled. Usually when I was on 3/4 wickets I'd have to take myself off when captaining as to give other people a bowl rather than kill a game. I played maybe 11 games in the 2's if I'd played all 18 and bowled flat out I probably could have been looking at 45 wickets. Batting wise the two 100's I got, 1 came off 20 overs when we were chasing 200 (the next highest score was like 25) and the other 18 overs when we hit 413-5 in 45 overs. It's just not challenging. So I'm hitting the bowling machine alot this winter, getting myself used to facing the pace of bowlers in the 1's league and I've been told I could be looking at batting either 3 or 6 in the 1's next season (depending whether we find a regular #3).

See that's terrible , fuck including everyone . You play to win , if you're the best bowler , you bowl . I reckon I'm only going to play 20 over cricket next year due to a few issues with my knees but I certainly won't be playing to include everyone .

I enjoy 20/20, we got to the semi final of the Somerset minor cup this year, 1 game from playing at Taunton on the county ground, just a shame there's no 20 over league round here. I'd be very happy to have a Sunday 20 over league. We struggle to get seniors playing Sunday's due to it being 40 over cricket, but I reckon more would play if it were 20 over games starting at like 12:30/1 ish. I know what you mean about injuries, 3 seasons ago I dislocated my knee while batting, the seasons since in the last month of the season I'd have to start wearing a knee support, this year has been the first season where I haven't had to which is promising.

You calling me a senior ?! I'm only joking . Yeah 20/20 is great for ( slightly) older people . People in their 30's and 40's don't have as much free time to commit to all day games and obviously there are the physical issues . It's great that you don't need the support anymore , you'll probably be fine now . Shame you didn't get to play at Taunton . I never have either even though I played age group cricket for somerset .

Even worse if it was a 15 year old girl (not me I hasten to add) Four of my team mates have suffered this though

I can honestly say, that I have never been bowled out by a lass, even at my advanced age.

The ones that did get out had to pay a £2.50 fine

 Anyone over 18 I count as senior so I count too. Yeah the thing with my bowling is I slowed down a bit as I swing it more that way so less pressure on my knee etc. Just a good thing no one in the 2's league can face inswing by the looks of it

I remember once as I was going out to bat the secretary of the opposing team warned me that the lad bowling was a bit quick . It was dilshan Fernando of Sri lanka test and odi fame . Wish I hadn't been quite as arrogant going out as I came back very quickly

Regretfully the quickest bowler I've faced I took 2 in a row to the box, first one I was just about okay, but the 2nd one had me down leaning on my bat for a while

at 2nds if you can swing it you'll cause carnage , same as decent spinners . You'll have to up the pace for first team though . I've seen enough swing bowlers get mullered

I am 51, but nowhere near being our oldest player. I also avoid 20/20 cricket like the plague, it is a young mans game IMO.

We have trouble attracting younger players, because they all seem to work on Saturdays

Same which is why I don't bowl for them, I've bowled twice, once I got smashed as I can't bowl short of a length and the other I got 2 for maybe 20 odd but they were missing an opener so chucked me in. But new captain new ideas maybe next season, just got to wait and see. The stuff with 2nd team has nearly had me leave once or twice over the last few years to go for a club whose 2's do everything to win.

If I eventually get the job I want I'll pretty much be working any day so no guarantee I'd play at all

I am much happier facing a quicker bowler, than some 13 year old brat that can turn it square

Needs must I suppose. We have come close to folding our 2nds, and some have gone to the wall. It doesn't help that some of the bigger sides run 4 teams though

Depends if an offie or leggie for me, leggies who can actually rip it can go to hell, but an offie isn't bad to face

Same situation with my club, last season when I was 2's captain we cancelled 9 of 18 league games due to lack of players (has put me off being captain for life) and this season we finished 4th in our league only once not fielding 11 players (when it was 10). Then a team down the road has 4 teams easily.
