Lovely jubbly, strange series. Gutted that Anderson is missing Trent Bridge, he's brillant there. Hopefully Finn carries forward or else we will be snapshotting into 2 years time when we have to try and replace Jimmy permanently. 2-2 into the final test at the Oval? Imagine how good that could be.

Who do people fancy to replace Anderson? Is it a simple case of putting Wood back in the team, assuming he's fit?

Saw Chris Rushworth mentioned which is a good shout. More of a like for like replacement for Anderson and has had great figures for Durham for several years now, surprised he's never had look in to be honest.

Or potentially could do something a bit different, go with the two spinners and chuck Rashid in there?

But I agree with you, reckon they'll just slot Wood back in, and that's perfectly fair enough. Was thinking before Anderson got injured he was going to be unlucky to be missing out.

Plunkett and Footlit called up to the squad..

Do you expect one to start even if Wood is fit?

I think Wood will play, but I think I'd rather have a proper swing bowler as a direct replacement for Anderson.

The safe choice is Wood. He's more of a known quantity, Cook trusts him and he will offer a decent degree of control.

Whether he can contribute enough in wicket taking terms is questionable though which leaves the likely burden of wicket taking on Broad and Finn as Stokes still looks largely ineffective as a test match bowler at this stage.

Plunkett hasn't played enough cricket recently to be considering anything other than a risk.

The brave choice would be Footitt. A genuinely fast left armer who swings the ball and is a proper strike bowler, he's something a bit different to what we already have in the bowling attack. The opposition will know little of him and he could be the difference in this game.

The Ashes are now up for grabs and England need to go for the kill at Nottingham and I feel Footitt would give us more threat.

The fact that we've been absolutely demolished is bad enough, but the mental impact will be huge. No way we win any more tests this series.

I feel that everything positive to have come out of the NZ series has been shat on.

4-1 to the aussies unless the weather creates a draw.

You two are hilarious.

Oh fuck, I was hoping nobody would remember this post. :jones:

In my defense, it was hard to find any positives after that second test. Classic British self-deprecation.

I have to say though, the mental impact on the Aussies after we demolished them will be huge. No way they win any more tests. Be bold.

Apart from the fact we had thrashed them in the previous test, which everyone seemed to forget.

This whole thread has been pretty shit to be fair, all doom and gloom after a wicket, or loss of a test etc, some of the over reactions have been embarrassing.

Standard though, innit. Not just this thread, the whole media's been the same. Writing off the Aussies as past it, a dad's army, after Cardiff. Then after Lords it was us who were doomed, and now it's swung the other way again. Clarke's finished apparently, at Edgbaston "you could see it in his eyes - he's gone". Nonsense.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if they bounce back again here and it goes down to the wire at the Oval. At which point the media will say it's now game on, when in reality it has been since the first ball of the series.

I'm currently sat in an office a 10 minute walk away from Trent Bridge. Fuck my life.

What an incredible place though, one of the best sporting venues in the country and easily the best cricket ground. Superb start too.

The earliest a 5th wicket has ever been taken in any Test match.

Mitchell Johnson padded up at 11.33am.

Extras still top scoring.

And Clarke goes. I'm not even celebrating these anymore, just sitting here in stunned disbelief

All out for 60, 20 minutes before lunch.

Broad 8 wickets. Absolutely sensational.

This won't sink in for a long while.
