Thought they'd give him a bit longer after how far he has brought them

Can't feel too much sympathy given the way he and his team conducted themselves last season.

Maybe with a new manager Halifax might become a less dirty side.

Neil Redfearn anyone?

This is a surprise! Will be very interesting to see where they turn next?

I believe I mentioned both Aspin and Whild in the sack race thread in pre-season, so smugness here I come...

There's not really someone standing out to take the job, I wonder if they might look to someone doing reasonably well in a lower division to make the step up?

He's a legend.

Six good seasons with us, a great record at Harrogant too. Many excellent runs and unforgettable wins in there too. For his successor to bring back half the memories he's given us would be some achievement.

I hope he goes to Doncaster or Tranmere or wherever and bags them a promotion.

Thanks Sir Neil.

Hmm, I'm thinking this thread will see the return of those forum members who've gone missing recently, and I'm not referring to GTFC1979 as his absence is self imposed.

Good luck for the future Neil. He did a very good job with the limited resources at his disposal.

Excellent, no stopping us now for that Conf North title in 2017. It's all coming together. :ds:

Think he took Halifax as far as he could and this season's rebuilding job was just too much.

Regardless of his past exploits, his record is, what, 2 wins out of the last 30? He's lucky he got 30 games based on that, which is perhaps slightly harsh but people start asking questions after 2 wins in 10 or so nowadays!

They should have cashed in on Larry Longball when they had the chance a few years back.

Erm, what did the Halifax board expect after they they lost all their better players over the last couple of years? Apparently, according to some posts I've read on this forum and a few others, the players they brought in as replacements are Conf North standard at best. Now I don't know if this is exactly true, but if it is, then cloth cutting has it's limits and one should set his targets accordingly. Perhaps some Halifax fan will confirm or deny if this is indeed the case re. the new players.

Oh do fuck off. I can take that from fans of pretty much any other team (with the exception of woking) but rough and tumble rovers???!!
If you're memory needs jogging check last season's disciplinary table and get back to me. And in the meantime review the footage of your players having Aspin a headlock and players booting balls in fans faces. Halifax being a dirty side was perpetuated by a knob of a journalist who follows Peterborough.

Exactly. A lot of fans have a lot of time for him but his record is something like two wins in nearly 30 games. Past glories can't cover a woeful summer recruitment and some baffling team selections this season.

Wouldn't say were dirty... Nearly all the yellows have been for miss timed tackles, decent, or chat back to the ref, can't say I've seen anything dirty?

Chester fans moaned but if it was their team making the tackles they wouldn't moan. Dirty is going in to deliberately hurt someone and I've not seen that.

Last season you were pretty horrific both in actions and character. You appear to be a lot better this season, but given your exploits at our place last season - the original claim from the resident "top bloke*" is rich
Oh and how are those made up racism allegations going that were used to defend booting a ball at a child's face?

Mad?

When you use insults you've already lost the argument...

Video footage of Neil Aspin's parting words to the Halifax chairman this afternoon has been released:

Ridiculous decision. We always got six points from Aspin's lot.

I feel a bit emotional.

Wonder where Aspin will go? One of these managers who is 'destined for better things' one year, managing in Conf North the next?

Surprised at this to be honest. I know results haven't been great but given his track record for them would have thought he'd had more time to turn it around. Be interesting to see who they bring in.

Indeed, his stock was high 18 months ago and i am sure a few FL chairmen were hovering. Anybody who has observed his track record recently which has included only four away wins in 12 months might be put off. He indeed did lose some of his better players but the replacments have either been dire (we signed an algerian belly dancer that has a passing resemblance to an ex Lincoln defender), jumped ship (bishop/whitehouse), been excluded for no obvious reason (Sam Walker) or in one bizarre signing, takingon a lad from the north east who can't travel as far down as Halifax.

It's this bizzare summer recruitment that has undone him. We knew Pearson and Roberts were leaving in the summer so the scouting ahed should have been well planned but instead we seemed to get panic buys. After Gregory left we signed a completely different style of striker in Boden but didn't alter our system then scratched our heads when he looked a shadow of the player we signed. Spent a transfer fee on David Hattersley (if you listen very carefully you can still hear the Port chairman laughing) and this season played him out wide?! A hobby of Mr Aspins is signing reasonably prolific strikers and then playing them completely out of position.

Like i said one strange decision after another. He had plenty of baffling ones before but we had Gregory/Vardy banging in goals to cover them up. His prior record is the only reason he has managed to survive 10 games this term.

Funny how things work out, Halifax turned down money from us in the summer for him too.

He mentions in a statement that the club haven't shown him the faith he had in them, by rejecting offers to leave for elsewhere. He adds we've done exceptionally well to finish 5th and 9th in his Conference seasons.

Unless our next manager is very good, he will be proven right.

One sorta-positive from this is that it will destabilise the BOD's position, when it's clear that underneath the stewardship of Aspin very little has been cemented for the club itself. No club shop, no training grounds, eight years on. It can't stay like this...

Hamza always was a chunky monkey but sounds like part time training hasn't been good for him.
