Ps. You are aware that the Oxford vaccine is not brand new? It has been in development for years, in the eventuality of a pandemic. They had a base vaccine which they slightly altered for Covid.

that's how we end up with things like the "Thalidomide" getting approved - unless it's tested properly. but they might get lucky....

I would love to think that these Oxford Uni Scientists know a thing or two about developing vaccines.

Italian and American doctors have both done studies that show it already is weaker than it was, much lower viral load, which may be why it is declining despite everyone saying their will be a "second wave" everytime someone goes outside!

Suggested today children are more likely to be killed by Lightning than die of Covid 19 and the death rate is very low for under 45's so would make sense for a more targeted approach going forward to get the economy and life going again.

It is summer in the northern hemisphere so our immune systems are generally stronger. This makes it difficult to know that the virus is getting weaker, as it is wreaking havoc in Brazil at the moment that suggests it isn`t
The stuff about kids is that usually they don`t get too sick with this but a few have and indeed somehave died of it and I do not know of any that have died of lightening in the period of this pandemic. Also it is not known yet how much spread of the disease is caused by kids and the fact that the posh schools are closed leads me to think that opening the schools is just to have kids acting as guinea pigs to test the safety before the ministers kids go back to school in September.

Thalidomide pretty much brought about the strict regulations and control of drugs we have now. This vaccine will come via fast tracked trials and manufacturing, which is basically all down to money. No drug is ever made available as a one size fits all, risk free solution. We use drugs every single day on kids that were never trialled on kids and never have been licensed for use with kids. We still see new evidence of side effects from drugs that have been vigorously tested and on the market for decades, such as sodium valproate. It’s all about risk/benefit balance and it is no doubt a hell of a lot safer than the introduction of drugs in the 40s/50s was. I’d still be surprised if a vaccine arrived for the general population by September but the money and vested interest globally in finding a vaccine is definitely going to cut down the production time significantly.

I guess all of the squads across L1 & l2 bar the eight involved in play offs are now on the furlough scheme as today is the deadline?

We’ve been furloughed for months already. Obviously going to be hitting a problem in a few months time when the scheme disappears.

I reckon it is simple, ban every person in receipt of state pension from going to the pub or other mass gatherings and force them to wear a mask whenever they are likely to come within 6ft 7 inches of anyone (2 meters is too difficult for them ).
If they want more freedom they should donate their pension to the young people who have given up so much to save them from this virus ot to younger vulnerable people who need shielding.

Nice that you hold pensioners in such high esteem and I'm so grateful that you suffered lockdown and gave up wads of pay to protect me.

Luckily for me I know what a metre, or even two is, because you see they taught us both imperial and metric measurements all those decades ago at college.

I will certainly follow your excellent advice to carry on wearing a mask as I have for the last 2 months or so when I have ventured out in this big, bad world.

I might have to pass on giving up my pension, you know the one that I earned over 49 years in full time employment.
It would feel wrong somehow.

Let me say I would be only too pleased to avoid any pubs that you might be in, I bet your parents are proud to have brought up such a thoughtful, well rounded individual.

Oh don’t play dumb, it doesn’t suit you.

You’re saying that he’s not made himself look like a class A tit through all this!?

I don't know that's why I'm asking.

I support a team at level 6 so what do I know about level 3?

Haven’t been active on here since the season finished for obvious reasons - no football to talk about!

Delighted to be promoted back to League One at the first time of asking, however it does feel a bit strange given the circumstances.

It was clear watching us vs Swindon at Home Park that we were two of the best sides in the division, and Crewe have been excellent also.

Harsh on the playoff sides, but it is what it is. I’d like Cheltenham to go up. Fairly local game and it means City aren’t in League One! :woo:
Ryan Lowe does seem to have the magic touch. He nearly single-handedly kept us up back in 2009 (as a player).

Whoever is first to develop a successful and scalable vaccine will get untold recognition - Nobel prizes, research funding in abundance, widespread recognition, probably access to a lot of wonga and maybe even get laid. The pressure to be first Is huge. Some scientists have egos, this could push them to cut corners. And even if they don’t the pressure from Government’s for these scientists to ‘win’ For their country will be huge. One of my earliest memories is of a thalidomide boy in my neighbourhood. It is not a nice memory.

Oh well please excuse my ignorance, with you having blue in your name I thought you was a Peterborough fan!

In short if it were done on PPG because league 1 is so tight Wycombe moved from 8th to 3rd knocking Peterborough out of the playoffs in the process.

As such their chairman has had a rather embarrassing few weeks throwing his dolly out the pram (you’d be better off looking on the league 1 forum)

So Swindon won the league by 2.39 points. First time that's ever happened?

"We’re top of the league,
we’re top of the leeeeeague,
by virtue of unweighted-points-per-game,
we’re top of the league…"

The trouble is that the EFL aren't impartial in this situation. They have a vested interest in keeping Stevenage in the League. After all, it will look bad on them if a perfectly well run club is relegated into a league that won't start, while a basket case stays in L2 and potentially goes bust anyway. It's an easy way out for all concerned if Macc were to be conveniently relegated instead.

But that’s no excuse for how the EFL have totally weaponised the situation against us to get rid of us. Using Lincoln's seemingly more logical proposal we're pretty much out of Stevenage's reach, but using the EFL's own proposal basically any further points deduction will send us down.

And now that the EFL have positioned us nicely on the brink of relegation, they charge us for an offense that’s not actually punishable by a points deduction, release some statements to the media where they suggest that we might lose more points, and now suddenly everyone would be surprised if we don’t end up relegated.

There shouldn’t have even been a discussion about how to apply the points deduction. It’s common sense that you would use Lincoln’s proposal. But the fact that they even allowed it to go to a vote, let alone a vote where their own method is the default choice, opens the door for clubs to effectively gang up on us.
49-12 was the vote results on it. I'm guessing there wasn't a requirement for all clubs to vote on amendments.

On a technical point, in my eyes, the Macclesfield chairman is correct to say they should've had their 11 point deduction after their PPG calculation.
Just a shame that the Macclesfield Chairman only realised it was a better way after the event...

Well done to Plymouth, Crewe and Swindon.

An already 'footballing' League 1 is shaping up to be a very attacking, expansive league next season. Will be interesting to see how Lowe gets on because at Bury, and T.A will know better than me, it felt like his Bury side gave away too many opportunities to the opposition. That said, Plymouth's GA would suggest he's been a bit better defensively there.

His hilarious tantrum when Artell got the managers job here instead of him kick started much needed change and led to promotion with a far better manager. Cheers Lowe.

They are actually very poor defensively. We put 4 past them without even playing at our best.

Just going back to Tranmere for a mo.....

Whilst I accept that my recent obsession with them has now reached the weird stalker stage, I am interested to see how people feel about the fact that it is now not entirely clear how Tranmere voted once their amendment was rejected. There is a suggestion that they actually voted to end the season within the EFL framework, thus effectively playing a part in relegating themselves.

We know Pompey, Peterborough and Sunderland voted to play till the end. So by my reckoning that just leaves Tranmere or Ipswich to make up the 4th club.

How did that turn out for you?
Eh? Absolutely irrelevant comment. Still believe that with the run in we had we would have gone up automatically and I fancy our chances in the playoff lottery.

My point being your impressive win didn’t stop your rivals from getting promoted whilst also not enhancing your chances.

I agree with your PO prediction - have Colchester actually got 11 players left?

Congratulations on reaching retirement, I and many others hope that one day we will be able to retire (if the planet lasts that long) having paid off the governments debts left by the generations before us and I am glad that you went to college ( no doubt you didn`t have to pay for it).
My parents are no longer around for me to ask if they are proud but I am sure they would be grateful of the sacrifice that young people are making to keep our elders safe.

Please accept my condolences regarding the loss of your parents, obviously I know how that feels.
You misunderstand regarding my college education. It was day release and night schools In my own time but I will always be grateful for having the chance to attend......and learn.

I do hope you have the chance to retire.
It will possibly broaden your mind and give you perspective of how your life alters for the better (and worse sometimes) as you get older.

I don't feel responsible for the countries debts. In 66 years I doubt I've cost the country a fraction as much as a single mistake by one of our wonderful merchant bankers or hedge fund managers.

Still, I find it pays not to be too bitter.
Good luck.

Doesn't take too much working out, but our end are saying it's looking like mid-September at the earliest for the season to start because of various timings and durations around 'off season' etc.
