After the shit referees in League 2 last season, I naively thought the standard would be higher in League 1.

Based on what I’m reading in this thread, and what I witnessed at Brunton Park today, they are just as shit.

Todays ref was an utter embarrassment to himself and the EFL.
The league one refs are miles worse than league 2 in my opinion. We had possibly the worst two refereeing performances in many years last season.

Yeah its great to win the first game and to lose it by a big margin must be pretty soul destroying, but sometimes a shock can force a team into putting things right quickly.
I remember when Leeds lost their first game 7-1 and think they still went up that year!
Thanks for the kind words.

I don't imagine we'll be in the promotion mix though unfortunately!

Just listening to Scott Brown give his after the match interview and he was very critical of the ref. Afraid there'll be more to come....

We all get the same shit refs. They are not selective. It will not get better. We all have had our Saturdays ruined by their ineptitude but we know the table does like lie come may.

No doubt he and the Carlisle fans feel he was bias to each other !

Think that was Norwich against Colchester.

Edit: haha see you edited your post.

Think Norwich sacked the manager and appointed the Col U one after that game. I don’t think we are quite at that point with Andy Crosby after one game in charge, that might be a little bit harsh.

There’s only a very, very select few refs in the entire football world that are decent imo. Whether you’re watching step 8 football or premier league, always see atleast a dozen dodgy decisions each game. Remember that twat of a referee England had during the World Cup against France? Lost us the game he did. Decisions always tend to even themselves out throughout the season for everyone though.

Both managers were very justified in having a catalog of complaints about him. He was terrible.

Oh yeah I forgot about that bit. They sacked Bryn Gunn after they drew with us a few days later, and appointed Paul Lambert and cruised to the title.

The refs in L1 and L2 are all from the same pool I think. It may well be because we got humiliated today but I struggle to be too animated with them myself and rather focus on our ineptitude second half. You get some decisions in your favour that you perhaps shouldn’t and vice versa. My biggest gripe with todays one was him adding 10 minutes on at the end of the second half to put us through further misery but to be fair there’s no mercy rule he can apply.

I feel for the Vale fans, the GD will be tough to clear too even more so for the confidence of Conor, He was a fantastic keeper for us last season

Was funny when we all booed the ten minutes extra time and loads starting chanting the usual referee chant!

I would have set off for home by that point but that away car park is a right mess at Barnsley, literally block you in so I knew I couldn’t leave even if I wanted! Then it took 45 minutes to get out the place.

Connor wasn’t at fault for any of the goals in fairness and his distribution was excellent at times to get us going, especially first half when it got us on the attack.

I can't fault him for any of the goals. When you give decent strikers a free shot within 10 yards of the goal, the keeper has no chance. His distribution in the first half was as good as we've had for many years.

Pretty standard 2-0 win tbh. Oxford weren't particularly bad either, it just never seemed that likely it would go their way.

If our players have a bit more luck with fitness this season then we should be a bit more comfortable than last season. When everyone is fit its not a bad team at all.
Yeah I see Manning is suggesting they controlled the game due to their 70% possession. I would be a worried Oxford fan if he felt they controlled that game yesterday. We allowed them to pass it nicely between the defence and midfield but we controlled when you could do that and once you got into our half we were nicking it and hitting on the break.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from us but we were excellent when we chose our moments. This squad is a big upgrade on last season. Gassan a big upgrade on Ironside but we need cover for him. Otherwise we have a strong overall squad.

Bonner is just a bloody brilliant manager and if we can stay away from the injuries we will be absolutely fine this season.

I guess Bolton should be non league then.
Them days are well and Truly behind us six to you 7 to Accrington 5 to Lincoln and other pastings always keep you humble.

What other supporter has seen results like that and been to Bayern Munich, Old Trafford, Anfield and got results

We slapped Norwich for 6 who of course famously beat Bayern… that was within about 4 years!

Yesterday was a point gained that I didn't think we'd get, so happy with the result.

The usual problems of creativity in the final third were there again until we chased the game and overloaded with attacking options. Our starting XI is still missing that number 10. Talk from the manager that he hopes to have addressed that by next weekend.

Good to see the new signings of which some shined more than others, but far too early to judge anyone at this point.

Thought Rovers looked solid and had a clear game plan and pattern of play, leading to some real dangerous moments for us at times, whereas we didn't until going shit or bust.

Should point out the blatant shirt pull in the box a few minutes before our equaliser that went unpunished right in front of the referee who bizarrely was looking in the opposite direction as it happened. After the pen we gained at their place it was probably karma.

Shout out to the Rovers fans who made a decent racket all afternoon. The new safe standing rail seating and finally having alcohol available in that stand probably helped.

Are we going to get the traditional Port Vale video analysis after that? Last season I missed the three pages of screenshots showing what was offside and wasn't a booking that concluded every match thread.

There was a match yesterday?

Just watched the goals show from yesterday.

Port Vale in particular stood out. Couldn’t tell you who the players were but number 6 and number 4 in particular looked like they’d won a fans competition to be there.

Good result for Cambridge, thought Oxford had been overhyped pre-season and yesterday possibly showed that.

Good results for Stevenage and Exeter. Can see Matt Bloomfield and Gareth Ainsworth getting potted early on in the season, with the latter returning to Wycombe.

Finally, cracking crowd on at Carlisle. Fair play to them.

Roll on next week, we’re winning this league.

Unforgivable

But it wasn’t a lack of effort apparently!

To be honest the entire goals package should just be accompanied by the Benny Hill theme.

Not the best phrase Crosby could have used after that though granted a post match interview after a rough day is one of the toughest things a manager can do as really there’s nothing he can say that is right.

4 was Sang who was outstanding first half, moved to right wing back when Clarke was injured and was dire so we’ve answered that question as to his best position but as per video above his effort left a lot to be desired.

6 is Smudge who in fairness has been excellent for a number of years but was left wildly exposed by Jones and Cass.
