To be honest the entire goals package should just be accompanied by the Benny Hill theme.

Not the best phrase Crosby could have used after that though granted a post match interview after a rough day is one of the toughest things a manager can do as really there’s nothing he can say that is right.
The own goal watching back isn’t great, considering we weren’t blaming Ripley he’s ballsed up that massively. It’s a simple take and hits DJ when he’s not expecting that to come through.

Last season according to their fans Port Vale were the better team in every game they played , as good as any team in the top 6 and unfortunate to finish 7th bottom . Just reading yesterday's post it seems lady luck has again not shone on them. Despite them again being clearly the more superior team they can consider themselves very unlucky not to have won. Instead they lost narrowly 7-0.

You could tell we our 2 wingers were new, Bishop missed alot of pre season. We were very disjointed and the back 4 hadn't played a minute together with the GK as a unit. Some over hit passes and players on different wave lengths, and match sharpness didn't help. Rovers very quick on the counter attack however Collins and Marquis spent most of the game falling to the ground trying to get our players booked. Poole looks above league one. Midfield is too slow and safe to really impact going forward. Think we were unlucky not to go in 1-1 at ht. Mousinho got the subs correct and if we had scored 5-10 before we did we'd have won that as Rovers hardly got any possession in the 2nd half. They will get alot of points away from home due to their busy front players, all who are quick and can carry the ball. Lots more to come from us when Bishop, Whyte and Scully are sharper

Fake News. We had games last season we lost despite playing well… Bolton away a prime example but if your defence is poor you get punished at this level so it’s irrelevant. (Bolton fans raved about our performance more than we did!)

We also had plenty which we were dog in.

Yesterday first half we dominated which is correct hence the stats bar the one that mattered. If you don’t do the basics defensively you get beat. That’s the key issue

That's football isn't it? We played really well a few times last season and didn't get anything (Bolton away being a prime example, where your own fans were amazed). But then there's other times when we were shite but scraped a win.

I don't think anyone can say we were unlucky yesterday. We were undoubtedly the better team in the first half (as confirmed by many Barnsley fans) but the second half we capitulated like a bunch of school kids.

Stop trying to make things up to make yourself sound funny/clever.

A couple of them also told the forum they were definitely getting relegated with about 4-5 weeks to go. It’s been interesting to see their start to this season in League 2.

So Vale fans, should we be concerned by Barnsley on Saturday or not?

Still too soon mate :)

They’re a very clinical side and should be up there again. Scored almost all their goals off crosses into the box so you need to be on your game either blocking them or winning first contact. Something we maybe were a little bit off at…

It was actually a serious question. I have to admit, I had Barnsley down to struggle a bit (mid table) so this really surprised me.

Not sure if it’s just one of those games or they’re actually gonna storm the league. Will be interesting to see next week

Yeah truth be told no two games are the same and with you being at home maybe they approach things different. Cadden was top notch for them but that’s no surprise to any of us who came up against him in L2.

The match stats below do show perhaps not a normal set of numbers for a result like that but in that it shows a cutting edge that can only just respect.

Clearly they are pretty clinical, however in mitigation they won't come across a defence that was as chaotic as ours. Funnily enough I thought they were poor first half and any team with half a striker would have been 2 goals up.

I can't quite figure out whether it was one of ththose games where we just simply gave up at 3-0 or whether everything Barnsley hit just went in. The stats don't reflect the scoreline, so maybe it was just one of those freak results.

They'll pose danger from out wide though. Some of their crossing was on point. I've always thought Devante Cole was a bit of a donkey but he must have thought it was Christmas yesterday!

Yeah it was hard to judge Barnsley on that, they ironically looked far poorer Saturday than last season at their place when we actually drew 1-1!

First half when Sang was in our midfield despite the quality they have in their midfield we completely over run theirs and they were resorting to hoofing it into the channels to try and get out.

Second half as I say with that defending last years FGR side hit us 3 or 4 times, it wasn't professional level by any strength.

Thought Orient were pretty solid, Pratley kept Fraser completely out the game resulting in us persistently lumping it up to an offside Alfie May. The only issue for Orient was going forward, they really didn't create much - can see them being a low scoring and low conceding team this season. We have a long way to go, Camara and Edun looked really good of the bench so hopefully they're fit soon and it feels like Leaburn will be a huge player alongside May when he's back from injury

Thankfully i missed the game as i was otherwise engaged on saturday. concerning that not only have we not sorted the shite defence from last season but maybe even ended up worse...hope its a freak result but there's really no excuses when you ship 7

I was fine with the Crosby appointment but we can't afford to stick with him for long if there's not an improvement

You played well against us at your place too. A Trafford wonder save at the end preventing you from getting all 3 points. We never seem to turn up when we play you!

Yet bar once (the obvious one) you nearly always beat us! Recall even in the Pizza Cup we dominated and lost a couple of years back!

That said Trafford was a cheat code... what a keeper.

Yeah we need a big clear out in the summer, fortunately quite a few are out of contract and unlikely to want to sign new deals even if we offered them. There is no fight in our team, you’re right. It’s so disappointing.

I’d like to avoid us being relegated by Peterborough in mid April but the way it’s going we’ll be down before then so they won’t have the chance to send us down.

Oxford are fifth from bottom on 37 points while we’re on 30. I don’t think we will reach Oxford’s current points total.

We’re down as it stands, regardless of today’s win. If we beat Fleetwood on Friday then I think it’ll give us a glimmer of hope but nothing more.

Yes our next four are really tough:

Bolton (a)
Peterborough (h)
Wycombe (h)
Plymouth (a)

If we get anything other than defeat from Bolton then it would be a huge shock. Then our first home Cambridgeshire derby since 2001 which will be very tough given Boro’s current form.

Wycombe is always tough though they do seem a bit softer post-Ainsworth so maybe something for us there. And then Plymouth away is another nightmare game.

I feel we’ve got to get a win from the Wycombe game and then get a couple of draws (or more) out of the other three. We really need six points minimum from the four games to stay in touch. I just can’t see it happening. I can see us losing all of them….!

Some self awareness would probably do you some good.

self awareness indeed.

There’s a massive difference. This is the league table on 19th March, with 9 league games to go. We were on a run of four wins in 30 games and were six points adrift from safety. There was nothing to suggest we were going to stay up.

Port Vale never got close to the relegation zone let alone in it. In fact the closest I can find is that they were six points clear at one point with four games to go, on a points total that ultimately would have seen them safe. It was melodrama.

I’m totally self aware but thank you for allowing me to prove my point.

it's your team and so you are allowed to say the doom and gloom predictions that turned out wildly inaccurate. you finished only 3 points behind us yet wanted to claim a monopoly on wrong predictions because your team was worse than my team earlier in the season rather than later. cambridge ended up with 9-10 points more than one of your predicitions so i dont get why you are so offended because you think vale fans a melodramatic.
