Fantastic performance from the Mets in this series and what a game Duda had for them last night, 2 HR's, 5 RBI's and was outstanding at first base when called upon; and also Murphy scoring home runs in all 6 games he has played in his first postseason and is the first man in history to do so I believe, incredible stuff.

I hope the Blue Jays can make it now too, but the Royals have a never say die attitude and will be tough to get by.

As a fan of an AL East team I say come on KC. As a Yankees fan I say come on the AL winner against the Mets.

Cannot believe the Mets have made the World Series, my uncle is going to try and get to the home games and hopefully send me over some winning Mets merchandise. I've had enough of the Tigers getting close to it so it's time the Mets step up and win another one.

I like most people in the uk got into baseball through watching channel 5s coverage in the late 90s. I dont think it can be underestimated the impact that show had on the popularity of baseball in this country. With that in mind i have set up a petition to get btsport in contact with jonny gould to front there quite frankly shoddy coverage of baseball in the uk. Adverts at every opportunity when they could be going to the studio for some analysis is sending me crazy. And if i have to see the advert for do it for your selfie one more time i may go insane! With this in mind i have set a petition up that i hope you would all be so kind as to sign.I am unable to post the link here but if you type jonny gould btsport into google youll see the petition.
Thanks.

I've surprised myself at how much I've enjoyed it too since getting into it a few months back. Looking forward to the first match of the World Series tonight!

Baseball newbies might enjoy this clip, which was played before game 1 of the 2010 World Series.

I've loved the playoffs this season, really do enjoy watching baseball now and again, it's a great game. My gripe with it, and shoot me down if you feel the need to, is the length of the regular seasons, I'm sure it wouldn't be the same without it, but as a casual fan it's just so damn long, and you're more often than not watching a game that, at the time at least, isn't massively significant. Playoffs obviously eliminate that and you feel like you're watching a game where every decision is significant, and loss will be more hard felt for it.

I say that as a basketball fan, and I'm aware basketball regular season is similar in length, but it's a more fast paced game, which kind of makes up for it I reckon.

Hope the Mets can win this next one at home, otherwise the series could end up being a rout.

I would say the benefits of such a long season, are very similar to that of test cricket, in that you get plenty of ups and downs; plenty of time for new narratives to rise and fall.

Take the Blue Jays who at the end of July were 7 games behind the Yankees, and barely above .500, yet they made it to game 6 of the ALCS. Generally speaking, I don't even look at the standings too much before the ASG.

As someone who only tends to watch games that start before midnight, the long baseball season means I get to watch about a 1/3 of Yankees games.

^^^ it's definitely a wallpaper sport rather than an event sport, if ya get me. But I consider than a feature rather than a bug. It becomes part of life's tapestry, background noise that occasionally reaches a crescendo. I like that, though I accept it doesn't really work for a lot of folks, lifestyle wise, and is perhaps increasingly anachronistic.

Additionally, the large sample size is necessary (or at least desirable) to some degree to sort the wheat from the chaff. The best teams in baseball lose a third of their games, the worst teams win a third. The difference between a crap player, an average player and a great player is a few extra bases a week, a couple of defensive plays, etc. It takes good while for the signal/noise to normalise, in that respect.

I do think they've devalued the regular season by expanding the play-offs though, which I very much dislike. The 162 night slog coming down to these one game wild-card match ups is fucking asinine.

I will say that watching a major league game in the flesh, is considerably more fun that watching it on the TV. Just the whole experience is a lot of fun imo.

Not to mention the food they have there which you could gorge yourself to death on. Not a fan of fatty American food, but if I was to go to a game there, I would get the biggest fattest thing on the menu just to say I've done it! :D

Well the Mets blew it in that 8th inning last night. Surely KC now will seal it tonight.

It probably has been the Mets since day one even though they buggered it up in the end, and the Red Sox for a couple of reasons. Been reading up a lot on the history of baseball recently and watched 30 mins of triple plays on YouTube last night! It is so much more than a game about pitching and home runs right enough and I've really enjoyed the other nuances top since I started watching.

Indeed; I was reading about the Sox rivalry with the Yankees and I thought, that'll do ;) The Mets are due to watching Seinfeld and really liking what I saw when I saw them play. Can't have the Yankees after all that now can I? :D

Is that true? I thought Larry David made that name up! :D

George worked with the Yankees in the series of course but Jerry was a Mets fan I believe, and he was at the game the other night.
