Roy Halladay. Shite. He was fucking nails during his peak. Was always cheesed off when I saw that he'd be starting during a Sox series, felt like he was good for a complete game shut-out every single time. One of my fave 'other team' pitchers to watch bar none.

Yep, very sad news.

I used to feel exactly the same whenever he’d pitch against the Yankees. A man that was very hard to dislike also.

Jeter is still a Yankee. Veto the trade imo.

It’s ridiculous and feel sorry for Marlins fans. Why would you bother to go to games next year?

That lineup though; Judge, Stanton, Sanchez :eyes:

Didn't take long for the Yankees to revert to type. Yeah, Jeter has given them a steal there, even if they are now saddled with a buck ton of money and have to try and work the outfield rotation to keep both him, Judge and Gardner happy.

Ohtani signing with the Angels seems a strange one. They have got very little going for them apart from a couple of nice pitchers and Trout. Hey, I'm sure Ohtani will make a difference, but he doesn't strike me as a player that will turn them into a world series contender. Still, nice to see him not just picking one of the big market teams. Need the talent spread around, especially since Gordon and Stanton have gone to big name teams.

Not really. The reigning NL MVP, who has only just turned 28, was available for Castro and 2 good but not great prospects, and Stanton was willing to waive his no trade clause to join us. That’s too good to turn down.

On top of that we’ll still be below the luxury cap hit.

It does mean that the Yankees think the Stanton contract will be better value than whatever Harper gets in a years time.

It's actually gutting. I only got into Baseball a few years ago and so far, my 3 favourite players, one has died, one has been traded for peanuts and the other is about to be. Fuck this.

Ozuna gone now too. Yelich will be gone before long and probably Realmuto too. Not gonna recognise a single player on opening day.

So it all starts again. Anyone have any predictions?

With so many teams seemingly tearing it down I don’t think there’ll be much change from last year.

ALE - Yankees.
ALC - Indians.
ALW - Astros.

NLE - Nationals.
NLC - Cubs.
NLW - Dodgers.

Best record - Nationals.
Worst record - Marlins.

I think it’ll be a Cubs Astro’s WS.

Interesting to see the Yankees have the 7th highest opening day payroll; the evil empire no longer?

Finally, anyone off to any games? I’ve got tickets for the Yankees in DC in May; my first time seeing them for quite some time.

In terms of not so obvious predictions I'm going for the White Sox to make playoffs. Picked Lucas Giolito up in my fantasy league and hoping for a good season.

Really got into it last season and excited for the season ahead.

Would love to go to a game and may get the chance later in the year but most likely my first game will be one of the London games next season if that happens.

Have you picked the White Sox because you genuinely think they'll make the play offs, or because Golito is in your fantasy team?

I'm heading to San Francisco in June, taking in the Giants v Marlins series. Too bad the Giants project to be mediocre and the Marlins terrible.

Not gonna predict that off the back of having one of their pitchers in my fantasy team. Fancy them as an outside bet.

Ok. Very odd choice imo. Behind those 3 division winners, I'd back the Red Sox, Twins, Jays, Angels, Mariners and Rangers to all easily have a better record than the White Sox. Their pitching is promising but mostly rubbish and behind the odd decent performer their hitting isn't much better. I think they'll be more in contention for the bottom of the AL, not the wild card.

I'd have to disagree. I think they have a very talented infield itching at the chance to prove themselves. An all star OF in Garcia and a young buck at the side of him in Engel eager to prove himself after a poor start to his career in the majors and a pitching staff and bullpen with massive potential. I'm not saying they're gonna make the post season for definite but I'm having a punt at 12/1.

That outfield depth is being tested early, the Yankees have 3 of them on the DL (Ellsbury, Hicks and Frazier) and it could be 4 soon, after McKinney hit the wall in Toronto in the first.

Great to see Baseball coming to London next year, Red Sox vs Yankees for 2 games. Sadly its likely to be ridiculously expensive and tickets will be like gold dust.

Currently in DC; will be watching Tanaka and CC against the Nationals next week :) Unfortunately, neither Strasburg or Scherzer will be pitching for the Nats.

Hoping to see some baseball in DC the next two nights, let’s go Yankees, but the forecast is not good.
