Went to a Mets game while I was staying in New York. Quite enjoyed it actually, very different in what Im used to with the football with the kind of atmosphere, but well worth going. All going very well for the Mets with a 4-2 lead in the 6th only to collapse and end it 7-4 behind!

Good pictures there Smudge. Shocked and saddened you didn't go to the Shake Shack there though ;)

As for the general atmosphere at baseball, because of the nature of the game and the food and booze on offer, I've always found it more like cricket than football.

Next time get yourself to the Bronx for a Yankees game; its a very difference experience to going to Queens.

Yeah I don't like cricket and have never been to a game, but it did feel like what I imagine a cricket atmosphere to be like!

I had the choice of either Yankees or Mets, picked the Mets mainly because I veer towards the underdog. I did plan on doing the Yankee Stadium tour but ran out of time unfortunately. I'd definitely go to a baseball game again should I ever be lucky enough to go to the US again.

Closest atmosphere to it in my experience.

Ugh, should have headed north. Pride. Power. Pinstripes. Isn't that right CF? ;)

I went to my first game at the old Yankee Stadium in 2005, then went back for games in 2006 and 2008. I also went to Shea for a game, just to go before it got pulled down. I haven't been back to NYC since, but have been to a number of games in Washington and in Baltimore, including seeing the Yankees there.

Tempted to follow the game back in the UK?

Id watched bits of games before I went just to try and get a full grasp on the rules and so on. The time difference is the biggest problem really! Same with basketball. I love basketball, but when games are starting post midnight, its rare I can ever last that long! Ill usually start watching one, then fall asleep when theres a break! Shame really as I enjoy both.

You'll find that about a quarter to a third of games start at 1pm U.S. time, so if you support an East Coast side you can watch those games at a reasonable hour.

Eg I can watch 8 Yankees games this month and 8 next month, at a reasonable time.

Nothing new I know, but ASG voting is such a joke. Hosmer is having a good year, but not nearly as good as Miguel Cabrera!!!

I think it is hilarious. The current voting format is ridiculous and it doubts towards the world series.

I might submit an all Royals ballot at some point!

Really? I don't think I've watched it once, even on replay, in 10 years of watching baseball.

Gardner is rightly an all star; he's been very good the last 18 months. Amazing when you consider he was cut from his college.

Congratulations as well to Todd Frazier, who won the Home Run Derby in his own backyard, beating 2 time winner Prince Fielder in the process.

Massive game for the O's tonight @Yankees, chance to close that 4 GB gap.

So the Reds are officially sellers. Do people think their team will make any moves in the next week?

We could do with another starting pitcher, and someone at 2nd base who could hit for average at least. Can't say I want to see us empty the farm for anyone but Cole Hamels. Would love to see David Price in pinstripes, but we don't have the pieces, and we're better off making a run for him in the winter.

Oh, and I can't help but think Arod is juicing again. It can't be down to resting for a year can it? I want to believe that it is but...

And then Stephen Drew goes and hits a 2 run home run.

Who's your team, V?

And back-to-back wins for the O's @Rays, not forgetting Chris Davis's grand slam in game 2!

Yeah, followed them in the Postseason last year, for a moment I thought you were a Mets fan!:ffs:

I've seen a game at Shea, but i'm not a Mets fan, that's for sure.

How come you're an O's fan?

They were the first MLB team I saw on the television, and followed them ever since.

Still have fond memories of last years Postseason, Tigers @ Orioles, 6-4 down in the 8th, and pinch hitting is Delmon Young, who smacks one down the left field to empty the bases and take a 7-6 lead. Never have I seen Camden Yards explode with noise.

Fair enough. The first MLB game I saw in the flesh (I had no interest prior to that), was at old Yankee Stadium 10 years ago. Was enough to get me hooked.

I'm lucky enough to have seen games at Camden Yards before, and the atmosphere has been decent, when it's been dry that is. A gorgeous ballpark, although the atmosphere at Nationals Park and old Yankee Stadium is/were better IMO.
