As you're in the thread; good idea to give Cherington the chop?

Of course, David Ortiz has not been found guilty of taking PEDs (despite my... uhh... doubts.... in that regard), so the situation is hardly analogous.....

Re: Cherington, yes, I think so. The more info we gather the more 2013 starts to look like the anomalous outcome. The current roster has been expensively assembled, not particularly unlucky and is (obviously) a long way from contending. And that's on him. So if he wasn't interested in ceding any authority then there was nothing else to be done, really.

Let's completely forget the fact we've been swept by the Twins, in our own backyard, and 3 of those games have been decided by ONE run. And we play the Royals next. Shit. In their backyard, for 4 games. Kill me now :bang:

The Blue Jays score for fun, so you might wanna keep an eye on them
Yeah during commentary of the match last night the lead commentator said they are in good form. May just do that! :D

There's more to baseball than runs. Sometimes a good pitching duel can be just as entertaining.

Indeed, I'm enjoying the tactical battle between pitcher and batter, but I haven't yet seen a high scoring game :D

You'll see a high scoring game soon, I've seen plenty with the Orioles. Just a shame they're playing the Royals, tonight. Not long till the postseason starts, can't wait

Yeah the Blue Jays aren't playing tonight, so I'll watch the Astros play the Yankees, with the latter needing to win some games to get back at the top of their table, whilst the Astros are top of their group, so I'm hoping it'll be competitive.

No score into bottom of the fourth between these two, but that #30 pitcher for the Yankees is an absolute monster, hardly anything getting past him.

Eovaldi pitched a no hitter in to the 6th and his fast ball averaged 98mph. He's really been good the last few weeks, and I've no idea why his ERA is 4+ runs at the moment.

If you want to read more on the Yankees, this is a good blog http://riveraveblues.com/

They can get a bit technical sometimes with sabermetrics etc, but you can always skip them.

Watching the Metz tonight :D

Strange though how its went so far; last night it was extremely tight and the Yankees didn't win it until they scored the only run of the game at the bottom of the ninth. Tonight, at the top of the first, the Metz already have 2 runs!

Last place again, GM canned, manager has cancer, and now Orsillo-gate. I am not suggesting that all these things are alike in import, but I think the Red Sox have hit for the cycle of shit this year.

Almost the reverse of 2013 when everything came together for Boston.

Silver lining to getting slapped about; watching a position player give up 2 hits, no runs and no hits in 2 innings :eyes:

Watched the Metz at the Phillies again last night, good game, but the nights pitcher for the Metz was a huge big-bellied 42 year old named Colon! I had no end of fun with that one! Good pitcher he was though, he had a great game. Just goes to show, you don't have to be an athlete to be a major leaguer. :)

Check out pictures of David Wells and Frank Thomas; hardly the physical specimens you'd expect in professional baseball.

Watching the Metz again tonight (well a bit of it). The big guy isn't on so far, I hope he can come on later!

Btw I noticed that a batter hit a ball into the outfield, then on the bounce it went through the foul lines, bounced off a wall and the fielder picked it up and threw it to the short stop as the batter ran to second base and the play counted. So is it ok to hit a ball into foul territory as long as it firstly makes fair territory?

^^ A batted ball is fair if it first bounces in fair territory.

Can't decide if I like these White Sox throwbacks or not.

Can't believe Buck played Matt Wieters as a DH, last night. Bats considerably lower in average, compared to his usual catching role. Onto the Rangers, for a 3 game weekend set... Won't be surprised if we return home having been swept by Prince Fielder and co.

Guessing he needed a night off from behind the plate, but the O's needed his bat. Or it was a day game after a night game. Either way, it isn't unusual.

Roster moves, again. Reimold clears waivers, accepts AAA assignment. Henry Urrutia optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, and O's select OF Dariel Alvarez's contract from Triple-A.

Not a good night for the Yankees. Lose a close one, Gardner has shoulder problems, Eovaldi is likely done for the year due to elbow inflammation and Tex is still on crutches.

1 more game against the O's and then 4 massive ones against the Jays in NYC.
