I guess it depends what life stage you're at.

I'm now 41 with kids so a good away day would involve somewhere nice to stop for lunch and a ground I feel safe taking them to. Cheltenham, Forest Green, Mansfield were nice days out.

Nowadays the thought of going out for an away game and getting pissed up with my mates are long gone!!!

If I had a choice now for a boys weekend away it would be Lincoln. Lovely city, decent ground

No one likes the Ricoh, but an away end with no roof is an absolute no for me. Kills the atmosphere. Yeovil away end would be brilliant if they put a roof on it, same with many others.

It took us ten years to put a roof on the home end. We hardly ever open the away nowadays anyway.

Just seems a bit strange to me why so many league clubs still have roofless terraces. I may be wrong, but surely it wouldn't cost much?

Just cos you get beat every time!

Better than some soulless bowl in the middle of nowhere

It really aint in the middle of nowhere. Loads of pubs and clubs within walking distance of the Ricoh.

I cannot stand Swindon cos of that dreadful away stand. If you fancy paying 25 quid you can go in the main stand with a tiny bar and no legroom!

The day out isnt so bad as it goes with that pub near the roundabout nearby. I just hate the ground. And yes we do always lose there!

There can't be many of these left nowadays. Off the top of my head only FGR, Accy Stanley, Morecambe (not the away end) and Carlisle (not usually for away fans) have them in this division now.

Don't FGR still give you that small stand behind the goal?

Nope. They changed it this season. You get given the open terrace along the side of the pitch and no seats.

With us it was because we were still non-league with not much money and we got shafted by the building company who bought our old ground and build our new one. The only reason we have a roof on our home end is a supporter-funded appeal which was called Erection 2000 (absolutely true).

With how many corners Haslam cut with the re-development of Field Mill I'm suprised our three sides have roofs!

Could be worse, it could be a golf stand that even St Andrews rejected

I enjoyed my trip to Vale too when we played them in the cup 4 or 5 years ago, their away end generated a cracking atmosphere even with only around 450 - 500 of us in it.
On the downside I dropped off the wife and daughter in Stoke to go shopping (she thought there would be plenty of choice for them with it being a City) before me and my lad went to the game, and my wife is still having nightmares about it.........

Oh and the area around Vale Park being a complete shithole made it feel just like being at Blundell Park. :bg1:

Jesus. Well you must be too young to have been at vale park when kevin jobling scored the winner and sent them down meaning we stayed up. Scariest day of my life, fucking horrible place and vowed I would never go back again.

Each to their own though

FGR.

Vegans, hippies, eco warriors, leftists and so on. Plus, or so I'm informed, their owner also likes to help out the Labour Party with donations every now and then. The St. Pauli of English football IOW, although that coveted title will be in jeopardy if Dulwich Hamlet ever make it to the FL.

Then of course, there's THAT HILL, which of course does wonders for aiding one in getting rid of that protruding beer belly and unsightly man boobs.

If only it was the St Pauli of English football!

I just don't believe that a thread about the best away days nobody has mentioned the joy of Crawley.

Modern stadium, seats and terraces for away fans. A welcome in the supporters bar and a couple of decent pubs nearby. Shame it's in Crawley really.

The weather, bar, terrace and opposition delivered many of the essential ingredients yesterday. Unfortunately, 1,600 rightly confused home fans and the car parks otherwise known as the M11 and M25, as usual, took the edge off.
