The Telegraph's investigations team would have been given a tip off he was getting involved in this business before launching their operation which, although dodgy, was the only way of obtaining the story. And given Big Sam is the England boss and the most prominent FA figure there's a clear public interest in it.

According to SSN earlier they were aware of several other managers who had met with the same people about 'keynote speeches' and one had contacted them to say he had been in a similar meeting and walked out the moment it got 'dodgy'.

Doesn't excuse Fat Sam, but they seem to have been trawling their net far and wide on this.

Reactionary madness. Fuck the FA and fuck the England team. We deserve all the shit football and failure about to come our way. Still, at least we're used to it.

Depends what's in his contract. If it explicitly says that you won't bring the role of England manager into disrepute, or somesuch, then you have to be on your best behaviour at all times.

It'll be the Neville and Becks dream team.

Also compensation may not be payable in this case it it goes against his contract of employment, same as if you or I were sacked from a conventional job

Allardyce was approached to discuss the possibility of giving speeches in the Far East on motivation and management - not football

Given list with names of 7 managers who fear they've been stung by Telegraph just like Sam Allardyce. 5 English, 2 ex international managers

He was naive and stupid to speak so candidly but it wasn't corrupt. Totally unwarranted for him to leave imo, thanks for the memories Big Sam.

Its bullshit, greedy it seems but not dodgy from what I've seen and read.

All depends on the terms of his contract. He was advocating 'getting around' FA rules for financial gain and then all but advocated breaking further rules on 'bungs' when he made a show of not listening and said 'you talk about that when i'm not here'.

According to SSN, another manager walked out at that point.

He was giving people advice on how to circumvent his employer's own rules.

Not sure many of us would stay in a job after that. Certainly not a high profile one.

The FA have spent the last few years criticising FIFA for unethical practices. It had to act if it wanted to maintain any sort of credibility (!).

The above is unfortunately correct. Bollox if you ask me, Big Sam will always be England manager to me.

When you say getting around FA rules, what he suggested doesn't break any rules and is within the rules? And he refused to talk about bungs didn't he, he was adamant on that. That isn't him advocating it, to me the implication was if you're going to do that then don't get me involved.

I'll say what I said again, greedy but not dodgy.

Third party ownership is against the rules under the FA and he was talking openly about 'getting around it'. When he didn't walk away when they started talking about bungs he opened himself up to questions. He was basically saying 'yeah, you do that, but I can't be involved directly in that bit.'

However is it not his duty to report people that are suggesting they are trying to jeopardise the integrity of the game? He should do a lot more than "Not get involved"

Do you view tax havens as ethical? They aren't against the law, but it's pretty clear that those who use them are bending the rules for their own gain. What is technically 'within the rules' isn't always OK.

In the videos he is meeting people with the possibility of financial gain and he's giving them advice on how to get around the rules of his employers. The video where he's joking about implied bungs is revealing, it's clearly shady activity and the FA are correct to act.

Pretty naive to believe there was nothing more to this than Big Sam just being candid. There always feels like a bit of entrapment with these things, but come on, how fucking stupid/greedy do you have to be to be given your dream job and then do this? How was this man ever given such a job?

Please please please Pardew. :D

As for the third party ownership, actually read and think about what he has said. It was all above board, it wasn't actually a way around third party ownership so to speak. It was a way around profiting from player transfers.
What he was saying basically is you don't need third party ownership to profit from player transfers as it can be done within the rules and totally above board.

People just see the words third party ownership and can't look past anything else it seems.

On the bungs that is bullshit, he said you can't do it. He said don't ever go there. He wasn't suggesting to them to do it, he said if you want to talk about don't involve me in anyway.

It's an absolutely moronic decision in my opinion, such a needless dismissal. All they had to do was give him a slap on the wrists, make him make a public apology, and a year from now no one would give two shits about any of this. Now the senior and U21 qualification campaigns are thrown into chaos and for what? So the FA can buy the short-term PR breathing room they need? It's farcical.

It looks like he's been sacked based on what he's said rather than what he's done. Still doing an FA investigation on what he's done.

That's a fair criticism, not sure thats worth losing his job over.

We don't know if he was intending to report them, newspaper sources suggested Sam was intending to tell the FA chiefs.

If anyone was going to get themselves into trouble with their big mouth it was him!

Mind you the contenders for the job include Pardew and Hoddle - both not exactly PR savvy.

Probably end up being Southgate/Bruce.

So you genuinely don't see any problem with the manager of the English national team, an ambassador for the FA, dishing out advice on how to flout the FA's own rules?

The FBI's findings came on the back of years of investigation by the Sunday Times. Blatter wouldn't have been brought down had it not been for the British media. This is proper investigative journalism we're talking about, not tabloid shit from the Mirror or Sun. You obviously have a problem with journalists doing what they're paid to do.

Not sure about this. It very much looks like a string operation, which is precisely how tabloids such as the Mirror and Sun obtain their scoops. The Telegraph will claim that, having uncovered something murky, their actions were justified (especially if they possessed prima facie evidence), but I think it might still be said to be fairly ethically dubious and a bit of a journalistic grey area.

He's a bloody fool but I do feel a bit for him.

OK after further reading I admit I got this dreadfully wrong last night. However, I still think these journalists hardly acted with much integrity themselves. No one has come out of this looking good, especially England football. We are a joke. I'd quite like the FA to come under this sort of investigation though as I think they are as corrupt as the next man at the high table of football.

Indeed. He was indirectly advocating breaking the rules of his direct employer.

When was it filmed? If it wasn't the day before the papers came out, then he had ample time.
