Another weak as fuck away loss.

Pressure mounting as another poor season looms. First calls for Aspin to go (not that I agree considering Smurf is still here).

Any truth in it that Aspin got booed at the end?

Yes. You were terrible, a few desperate long balls at the end all your attacking play consisted of. Better in defence but you did play with a back 5 and two holding midfielders.

Not in favour of that at this stage especially considering who would be appointing any replacement just want him to improve. It doesn't look good though right now. It's not even the losing that is annoying, it's the way we keep losing with no sign of this changing. A team which possessed some pace and even a modicum of ambition would quite likely have picked up at least one win out of these two away games. We have neither of them things.

Nothing learned from previous away losses. If you play the same negative tactics, you will get the same result. I don't understand how he hasn't figured that out yet.

He is running out of games already.

He can’t hide this year behind the poor squad, a) it’s his own and b) on paper it’s far far better than last year.

We were superb first game playing some really good attacking football but since he’s just gone Uber negative! We’ve got one of the best strikers in the lower two divisions in the air yet we sign no wingers!

Maybe Aspin is a good fire fighter but no good above that. He’s signed some decent technical players like Joyce and plays hoofball, I just don’t think he knows what to do with this side.

Also wonder why certain players are being scape goated like Gibbons and Worrall... all isn’t right IMO.

If we want to avoid a repeat of last season we need to be picking up something against the mid table level sides away, even if it’s just a point.

Can't add much more than the other comments here, because they're all spot on.

Three away matches, three feeble defeats, one goal - and that was from a 25 yard free kick.

We never come out of the blocks quickly. It's as if the game plan is to try not to concede for 20 minutes, bore our opposition for the rest of the first half and get to half time level. Same drill second half, hoping to someone grab something from nowhere and come away with a smash and grab 1-0. To have that approach in this division is totally embarrassing. Don't want to repeat myself from comments made after Carlisle but I'll say the same, grow a set of bollocks Aspin before we get dragged into a ridiculous relegation battle (again).

Blaming the loss mainly on the penalty we didn’t get... not that we didn’t have a go...

New signing hopefully next week... please be a bloody pacey winger!

I don’t know if it was or wasn’t but not having that at all. He basically waited until the horse had bolted before making changes to try and get a goal. Basically the same reason we lost certainly at Carlisle (Colchester I’m a little more forgiving over). What was his excuse there?

Well I called it just after half time in here what would happen, he’d make the changes once we concede. Quigley is shit so was pointless. Surely getting Daniels back off loan would make sense to give us an option at least with pace?

We have had their weird policy of signing or loaning players we never play, Kanu, Howe, Daniels to name three.

Oh and his Carlisle excuse was that their penalty wasn’t a penalty!

Is it true we've taken their home end and unfurled a 'VLF' flag?

Wouldn't surprise me if it's true - our 'lads' have been wanting to do something like that for a while - tried to storm the home turnstiles at Wigan a few years ago but got stopped. I suspect it may be lads who are anticipating long bans from Grimsby last season so have gone out with one last act of lunacy.
It was all very strange. About 7 of them all stood up at the same time and unveiled a flag. Stupidly though they did it were all our lads out for trouble sit and punches were thrown. They were dragged out straight away, and then halfway through the second half three of ours were thrown out for the part they played. Was more entertaining than the football on offer to be fair.

A well deserved victory that should have been by a bigger margin. The back four were immense for us and Luke McCullough looks a really good signing; a midfield water carrier who can also a play a bit.

Vale's performance had Gary Brabin written all over it. They played five at the back and seemed overly-cautious to me, given some of the attacking players they have got. They created little and I don't remember a shot on target in the ninety minutes.

As RLC says, Vale looked like a typical Brabin side, set up negatively, didn’t deserve anything. Don’t recall Aspin sides at Halifax and Gateshead being so defensive. Rovers were solid defensively with Monthe a rock against the odious Miller. After we took the lead, Norwood and Mullin could have extended the lead for us. Vale had two penalty shouts in the closing minutes, one with bodies flying all over the place, which I thought probably wasn’t and one handball shout which was hard to call from the opposite end of the park.

We’ve moved to five at the back because Manny Oyeleke is out who is our box to box powerhouse in midfield... his replacement is Anthony Kay who along with Joyce leaves us very open because we lack the engine and often get over run, last year we played one up front to combat that issue (as we had Kay and Tonge, but this season he wants more up front so plays Miller and Pope, problem is we are not feeding them with that system. Joyce and Kay are defensive and the problem then is if Montano and Clarke don’t get forward from the wingback position we end up like Tuesday with almost a back 7!

The change he made second half when we put Carlisle under pressure this time was move Montano to left back and Hannant on the wing, but Montys pace was what caused problems going forward.

We are way to reliant on Oyeleke being fit to play 4-4-2... we were cruising against Crawley last week until he got injured then was like the Alamo second half!

I thought it was strange you were playing Kay in centre midfield at his age. I did not realise you had players out in that position.

I thought Montano was your best player today, defensively and going forward.

Oyeleke is our only energetic engine... (was at Aldershot last season) in fairness Kay was quality there last year but it requires a three man midfield but without using the flanks Pope gets no service, I’d rather play Pope up front alone and have two supporting from out wide if in this situation.

We’ve got a better squad but still a little unbalanced in terms of depth so this week is critical, a winger and back up for Manny is needed. (Dare say Howkins will come in too).

Fans are furious because we were so good on the opening day playing it on the deck and carving chance after chance (but that was with Manny which allowed 4-4-2).

Monty is decent he was a winger but Aspin threw him at left back in February to much slating but he then became a revelation there... problem is he’s currently the only pace we have in our squad today and too far back!

On the plus side it’s good to be playing Tranmere in the EFL again. Had some good battles in the Championship in the 90s and league one in the 00s.

The stats are starting to speak for themselves. Aspin is totally clueless.

I cannot believe after 2 awful away performances he’s gone there and played the exact same way we played the other night.

Shit/no tactics. Shit subs. Shit starting 11. Same shit excuses from him.

We saw a lot of Oyeleke in our NL years and he always looked a good player. Aldershot were one of the better footballing sides at that level.

I’d be signing Whitfield or a similar type of player, he needs to get some pace but worryingly I’m unsure if I trust him to sign the right players this week.

The only embarrassing thing was one of your lads getting hit and crying to the police Dazza lad.

My bigger worry is how he’d use them. Agreed on Whitfield but if you think back to after that Luton game he seemed to get phased out a lot by Aspin.

Not so sure it was for on the pitch reasons rather than the now infamous ‘handshake’

To be fair we’d park the bus away from home against a midland alliance team in the cup under Aspin. Most fans are suggesting you weren’t that great which is why our fans are so pissed at the negative tactics employed again! As we did midweek against a side with an equally dire home record to our away form.

We’re just utter turd away from home.

I thought it was a decent Tranmere performance against opposition that had set up for a nil nil. McNulty got man of the match, but for me Monthe and Ellis were equally as impressive.
Was very impressed with Luke McCullough, can’t see a way back into the team for Jay Harris now.

Time to go for the third coming of the messiah? (Adams) the only one who seemed to control Smurf?

I’ll be honest I never was much of a fan of Adams but I think his time as a manager has gone (his last job in English football did involve taking Tranmere down to the Conference also). Don’t think he’d want to get involved in the day to day running much less dealing with Smurthwaite again.

I just want Aspin to learn and get better as right now it’s not up to scratch. He has the best help you can possibly get in John Rudge so maybe I’d suggest he should turn to him for some advice. I think the club has been down this cycle with managers far too often and it’s never improved things.

I want Aspin to work, that legendary team on the 90s has been tainted enough with failed managers, Grew, Porter, Foyle, Glover and now Aspin!

He just needs to be positive, maybe after the last two years there’s just negativity engrained into the club but it’s far bigger than parking the bus in league two away games! It’s sad it’s got this bad really and fans are rightly fearful of a third painful year.

He seems to have phases where we look ok, even second half of last year we had a decent spell where we hardly lost even if we were drawing, had the Xmas spell and the spell when he first took over but in between it’s all bitty and we don’t seem to be gelling or have a set identity and we need it quick. He needs a good result next weekend either way to take the pressure off, 9 points from 6 and again things won’t feel as bad.
