- The Boxing Day extravaganza -

It's no fluke Burton are top of the league at this stage of the season, so a tough afternoon is expected.

We're also in fine form - conceeding just twice in 15 hours of football.

I expect one change. More legs in midfield, which would mean the inevitable if you're a City fan - Billy Knott in for Gary Liddle

Something like this;

Ben Williams

Stephen Darby
Rory McArdle
Reece Burke
Greg Leigh

Tony McMahon
Billy Knott
Lee Evans
Kyel Reid

James Hanson
Billy Clarke

Many Brewers making the trip?

Should be a decent turn out from both sides. 19,000 ish!

0-0

Two of the best defensive sides in the league, not many goals in this one.

I can't make this one due to family commitments but I gather plenty will be travelling. It will be a tough close game I imagine which could go either way.
Looking at the weather forecast I wouldn't be surprised if the game is called off, Bradford's pitch a bit notorious and Albion fans are a bit sceptical after previous postponements against us !

Looking forward to this. I do like valley parade, I always sit there imagining what it would look like if the 2 large stands wrapped round the ground completely. Would be amazing.
Bantams are going well. I fully expect them to be in the shake up in May - top six at least. So be delighted with a point.
I'm going for 1 1 or 0 0.
I estimate about 600 to go - but it maybe more.( and should be - took 950 to Chesterfield ) We seem to travel better up north than down south.

I don't know where you get that from. There aren't many games called off at Valley Parade. Our pitch was awful last season, granted, but we've spent a bit of money on it in pre season, and I'm sure it'll be a bowling green again come Saturday.

Without being big headed, it would be the best looking good in the country. If the big stands wrapped right around, then projected capacity would be just under 52,000.

The notorious pitch claim is a bit of a lazy dig from last season, as above its since been improved, relayed and has been played on only once since the Coventry game a month ago; ironically though we have had had two postponements this season, both due to extreme rainfall in the lead up to kickoff.
Anyway on to the game... For some reason I'm very confident going into this one - I feel we have enough to score (especially past JMc) and defensively we're tight enough to keep Burton at bay, so I'll predict a 1-0 home win (1-0 either way or 0-0 seem the most likely shorelines)

Nowt to do with last season, more to do with a late postponement a few years back in the Peter Taylor era when Albion fans had already arrived.
Anyway a Merry Christmas to you.

2011 was postponed due to a frozen pitch, so add freezing temperatures to our notoriety. Although more rain is forecast for today and even more so tomorrow, as it stands the dry spells in between have been long enough not to worry. Merry Christmas and a safe journey up to those Burton supporters making the trip

What is is with the Burton fans on their forum? There's a few on there who seem adamant that the games going to be rained off. They ought to gaze through their crystal balls once more and fathom next weeks lotto numbers instead.

It won't be called off.

12 pages this month alone about the weather on claretandbanter would suggest otherwise :-)

We've had a couple of games called off due to a freak downpour, and it's started to panic people.

I think in the last 7-8 years, there's been 4-5 games called off.

Any chance this time the groundsman might have the brains to cover the pitch till the rain passes in the morning.

Not sure about 52,000.More like 40,000,surely.
Yes,it's impressive in its current state and a far cry from the pre-fire VP,which apart from a large open kop, didn't have much going for it.

The two games have been called off due to a freakish downpour just prior the kickoff. The covers haven't been required, simply because it wasn't raining.

The stand have a combined capacity of just under 19,000.

The main stand is also unfinished. It's current capacity is 9,100, but when finished its supposed to hold 13,500.

Kop - 7,500 x2
Main stand - 13,500 x2
Corners - 2,300 x4

Total - 51,200

P.S - we've sold just under 10,000, financially speaking, the club haven't done too bad.

Well, I put Bradford in my pre season bet along with Arsenal, Middlesborough and Oxford to win their respective leagues.

£17,000+ riding on it, so fucking well get on with it Bantams!

Fair enough but I wonder if that's 'cos they're a bit 'different' rather than a good design.
And fans will generally buy the latest shirt whatever.

Yeh but you'd have to build over roads/knock down buildings, etc.
And most grounds would be far bigger if you took the best and biggest section and mirrored it all the way round.

And those finished stand capacities sound pure fantasy, as above roads, houses etc. would all have to go. I also can't imagine where another 4,000+ seats would fit to complete the main stand

Not sure about that. Some of these groundsmen clearly weren't at the head of the queue when brains were being dished out.

That wasn't the question though, was it? The question asked was what the capacity would be if the stands were mirrored - and I answered that question and get called a fantasist.

Unbelievable lol!
