I think it is well established that the middle meal of the day can be dinner/lunch.

The real issue is that an evening meal is definitely Tea.

No it isn't! It is lunch. Dinner is only relevant to the traditional third meal of the day. Case in point, brunch. Brinner is just utterly ridiculous.

Essentially all I am getting from this thread is that anywhere outside the M25 (Leicester excluded) is the backwater of civilization.

This is what Is wrong with the world. Everything needs to be labelled. All you need to say is "I'm hungry, I'm gonna have something to eat"

Dinner is both lunch or supper, whichever one you choose as a main meal. Meat and veg at lunchtime is technically dinner, where if you have your main meal in the evening it's lunch.

I have a sandwich at about midday so I'd class it as lunch, and have dinner in the evening as that's when I eat steak and veggies. Whereas odd folk from up north would have dinner in the middle of the day (Steak and chips) and then have supper in the evening.

Though easy confusion, as some appear to have 2 dinners which is why you'll find people up north carry a few extra pounds.

In the North of England, South Wales, the English Midlands, and Scotland, people traditionally call their midday meal dinner and their evening meal (served around 6 pm) tea, whereas the upper social classes would call the midday meal lunch (or luncheon), and the evening meal (served after 7 pm) dinner (if formal) or supper (often eaten later in the evening).[21] In Australia, the evening meal is still often called tea, whereas the midday meal is now always called lunch.

There ya go. All you posho's keep on with your luncheon. Tory bastards.

What did Southerners call the dinner ladies at school? Lunch ladies? That is definitely wrong.

Yes. That's exactly what we called them!

Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Tea is a drink, first arrived from China hundreds of years ago but then the North have always been some way behind.

Supper is for posh people, anything after tea is pudding.
