We're still in the same place Kurt, just newer and bigger.
I do know what you mean though, the Gate was one of the last decent sized 'traditional' grounds. Not many left now, just the 2 in Sheffield and both of them have been done up.

Goodison?
Indeed and Everton are trying to move IIRC. There won't be many left soon!

Latest video from Bristol sport.

Seats going into the lower Dolman / East stand..

Theres also Fratton Park and Portman Road that i'd describe as traditional... although the latter has been done up at two ends, it still has that old school feel. I hope the gate can be the same!

That's 5, not many left then. I would class FP as traditional but PR is like the Gate will be, essentially rebuilt.

One of the worst grounds I have ever been to. Absolute shit tip.

You can't say it isn't traditional though - most older grounds are/were utter dives.

Which makes it that much better. Much rather visit so called tips than MK, Rotherham, Derby ect.

Your Bristol City colleague suggested that Selhurst Park was a shit tip (which it is), which means that it's not a good stadium (which it is, in my opinion).

I like some old grounds, some new ones. I didn't enjoy St Marys or the Weston Homes, but definitely enjoyed Stadium MK (the quality of the build is great, despite what anyone thinks about the club) and the New York stadium.

On the flip side, Saltergate was an absolute hole of a place, as was Millmoor - hell even Priestfield was a khazi til they rebuilt the home ends (where I sit is great, couldn't care less about the away end), while some older grounds - Selhurst, Goodison, Griffin Park for example - are great fun.

I was agreeing with you?

Saltergate was a shithole, but there was always something about it. We went three times in three years midweek and got stuffed up there on more than one occassion but I'd still go there tomorrow if we had a game there. I love visiting all sorts of grounds.

I would agree with you on Stadium MK. A fantastic build and a great overall venue/stadium. Not been to NYS though, so could't vouch for that ground.

On the flip side, some new builds are pretty pants. Reading, Coventry (is ok-ish) & Cardiff as poor examples of the lifeless bowls I've visited.

As for those more traditional or older stadiums, Hillsborough is deffo my fav! Prenton Park deserves a mention too. Then, like these new builds, there are plenty of shit older grounds too. Vale Park, for example.

I think it mainly depends on the quality/spec of a new build, the feel of the place and the fanbase that can create that additional feel.

Surely you can't get more traditional than Brunton Park? ;)

The New Gate is starting to look quite nice tbf, especially the East Stand when it's complete.

At least we have the ongoing redevelopment to keep us entertained during this otherwise boring summer. :)

Is that all the change on that stand? Seems out of keeping with the rest IMHO.
