Championship section on 1FF was good, but we lost a fair few when getting relegated, doesn't help the league 1 forum is pretty dead.

As for the new stadium its going to be great when finished I was home over christmas and went to the yeovil game, got a real impression of just how big the new stand will be, hopefully we can recreate the Cov away atmosphere many times in there as I think it could be similar. Just a shame the redevelopment has coincided with good performaces.

I thought the atmosphere at Cov away was pretty poor given the numbers we had

Maybe, but considering how empty the ground in general was I enjoyed it. Hadn't been to an away game with that size before.

When and why did you guys knock down the bottom tier of the Dolman?

Ah, should have worded it better. I know why in the long term sense, but why in the short term? It seems daft to further reduce capacity with the Wedlock end out of use. You could have potentially used that extra seating for today or maybe for potential play off/promotion games at the end of the season.

I think we've only lost a few seats. Before today, the end blocks of the upper tier of the Dolman weren't available due to health and safety reasons (amount of seats per turnstile, or something like that). Now those blocks are available and the lower tier instead isn't.

I think it's just a case of wanting to get the redevelopment done as quickly as possible.

Some more context for those who want it;

The Dolman was originally an indoor bowls hall with seats chucked on top. The lower Dolman came about 15-20 or so years ago to replace some steps down and a little small terraced area. Since the LD went up, there are very limited and poor facilities. Not able to access anything internal before this season and everyone enters/exits through either end only.

The Dolman roof has never extended over the lower Dolman. With the redevelopment, we've moved the pitch 5m the other way (or will do when we demolish the Williams).

We're rebuilding the lower Dolman to extend out to this new pitch positioning PLUS putting in vomitories (sp?!) to enable access to the internal concourse that is being constructed.

Anyway; why do it now? Since appointing our contractors they have realised they can extend the Dolman roof out over the lower Dolman without taking it all off and replacing. It's basically some "hold it up with magic and good-luck" and tie it into the new build.

To do this, we need to demolish the bottom to prop up the top.

Longer than needed but, y'know, there we are.

That pic just gives a scale of how big the new Williams is going to be if the new south stand is as big as the current Williams.

Not half Hodge, it's going to be humungous! I reckon the best view of the new South stand is from the Winterstoke Rd entrance, it doesn't half look impressive from there.

Why have the Dolman wings been blocked off again when they werent against West Ham? I thought losing the Lower Dolman meant we were able to sell tickets across the whole upper section?

I noticed that today too. maybe those blocks can only be sold to lower ST holders? At the south stand end I can understand it but couldn't fathom why the top of A block was covered.

Today...

As I understand it, the funky steelwork is to enable the support pillar in the Dolman to be taken out.

Rear view (looking good IMHO)!

The obscene amount of steel adjoining the Dolman is to enable the removal of the current Dolman pillar. Essentially, that steel will hold up half of the Dolman roof!

I like being side on at matches generally but will be very tempted for a match or two in the new stand.

As an ex-eastender, I will probably go in the new stand next year as the Williams will be downed. I am getting used to the side on view now though. Maybe the South stand / Williams corner to get a bit of both.

Looks very impressed from the plans I have seen - will make a good ground very good in my eyes. Used to love that away end we shared with home fans though, cracking atmosphere and a couple of old school cage type fences.

Have they said where away fans will be housed next season once the South Stand opens? Id have thought they'd go in there, particularly in that corner.

They will remain in the Atyeo I believe. The club basically wants singers to be as far away from away fans as possible, thus creating a worse atmosphere. When it is all complete away fans will have the entire Atyeo stand to themselves

That's how I understand it. Away fans will stay in the Atyeo, eventually having all of it (if needed) while the new South stand, redeveloped Dolman and cavernous new Williams stand will be home only.
