Well yeah it's a race course, be a bit daft to have it in the village square.

It's just a colder atmosphere in general outside Yorkshire.

Oxford and Cambridge are too nice to have a scummy football ground in the middle of them.
Football is not a priority in Oxford. Aunt Sally is the number one sport. The locals are fucking mad about it. And so am I.

16. Chester

C&B Opinion: It's fallen far too early I think

Description: As close to Wales as you can get, Chester is a beautiful city on the River Dee, known for its Roman history and the country's best zoo. The walls surrounding the 'old' city are some of the best preserved in Britain and the Eastgate clock is said to be the most photographed other than Big Ben. I think the only thing that lets this fine city down is the number of Scousers.

Famous People: Daniel Craig, Russ Abbot, Michael Owen

C&B Fact: The racecourse in Chester is Britain's oldest sporting venue in continuous use. Bruce Forsythe cut the red tape in 1539.

16. Durham
xvudm_phototour57.jpg

Result_Durham.PNG

C&B Opinion: Seems like a lovely place

Description: Perhaps the lesser known of the North-East cities, Durham is on the River Wear to the west of Sunderland. Its name comes from the film Jaws, Durham, Durham, Durham Durham Durham Durham...
Its university is the third oldest after the usual suspects and is famous for its rowing. It surely must be a diamond in the rough between Newcastle and Sunderland?

Famous People: Matt Baker, Stuart Parnaby

C&B Fact: Its castle is the only one in the UK that has never been breached. Have you ever tried to get in to a fight with people from the North-East? I'm not surprised to be honest.

Chester is the second of mine to fall. Had a few great weekends there, races Saturday afternoon followed by a night on the town.

Just a point ahead, here we have 15th place.

15. Exeter
Exeter_ECONOS.jpg

Result_Exeter.PNG

C&B Opinion: Never been, would like to

Description: The final city from the south coast, Exeter is sits on the Rive Exe, which gets its name because it's a dumping ground for the dead bodies of old boyfriends, girlfriends and spouses. The Met Office is located in Exeter after reclocating from Bracknell in 2004. The average wage is also 20% more here than in Plymouth, down the road. That extra finger must really slow you down...

Famous People: Michael Caines, Charles Babbage

C&B Fact: The Royal Clarence hotel is the oldest in Britain and they currently have an offer on for a free cheese course. How middle class.

Portsmouth-Port.jpg

C&B Opinion: Ahoy there sailor

Description: Portsmouth is the UK's only island city. Sounds exotic, doesn't it? It's not. The Spinnaker Tower is the tallest structure outside of London and is very handy for the local residents so they can look out at civilisation beyond the city walls. The name Portsmouth can trace its roots back to Old English where it means "buying the FA Cup".

Famous People: Peter Sellers, James Callaghan

C&B Fact: It's the most densely populated city in Britain.

Not having that, Portsmouth is a great place - especially if you like joining in with the locals and drinking Kestrel at 9 in the morning.

No talks of FARCE on this thread please. The turnout was more than a local election, the results were independently verified and some people are strange and like Liverpool. What can you do?

Referring back to your earlier reply C&B, yes there are parts of Essex that are nice, but then again, for every Colchester, you have a Clacton (or Jaywick).

Cornwall has a lot of stunning scenery, but Redruth is a shithole and were it a city, I would have voted for it instead of Leeds.
My home town is no oil painting either to be fair
