T.A. I didn’t need reminding of the ridiculously high level of nerves that day. As soon as as one of the goals me and dozens of others just went down the stairs to under the stand to watch the scores elsewhere cos what was happening on the meadow lane turf didn’t matter.
Others things noted from those highlights:
His cool was the finish for Bury’s second?
Never seen that many Bury away supporters as on that day!
Was that Kasper in goal for you?
Fully remember getting the penalty, scoring it and the wild scenes afterwards but not our first goal. Who scored it anyone know?
Yes, it was Kasper, doing us a bit of a favour with a rash challenge on Chris Palmer. Calmness personified by Baudet in stroking home the pen.
Dan Martin scored our first.
IIRC we were never actually in the bottom 2 - but at 0-2 down with 4 mins to play, a goal for Oxford, who were drawing 2-2 at home with Orient, would have plunged us into the drop zone with just moments of the season left.
It was the days before Twitter etc so like Enzo and thinking our game was done, I was underneath the stand watching soccer Saturday on the bar TVs, sprinting back up when we made it 1-2.
As it was we equalised then Orient scored an injury time winner at Oxford to ultimately render our result meaningless - but it was definitely squeaky bum time for a while.
Not ashamed to say I was one of those who bounced onto the pitch when the equaliser went in
At the end the Notts fans went over to the Bury supporters for a mass singalong of ‘we are staying up’
