Thought Bury were really good, easily the best team we’ve played. Aided and abetted by an embarrassing team selection and then predictable performance from Notts, though.

That’s usually the combination when the result is 4 or 5 nil. Most disappointing is the replacement for Milsom for this sort of game

A better team would’ve realised within five minutes that our wingers and midfield weren’t tracking back and we had to do something to help the full backs, who kept being left two on one every time. That we didn’t isn’t Bury’s fault and they were ruthless in exploiting it.

Were we meant to be playing the 4-2-3-1 today that has served us well recently?

Yes, but with Alessandra in the two and Hemmings as a number ten, both of which is complete bollocks.

I won’t claim to knowing loads about other teams in this league, but the one thing I think of with Bury is the threat of Adams and Mayor out wide. Starting both Thomas and Boldewijn, neither of whom have any kind of defensive instincts at all, was either really arrogant or really stupid. That was more of a problem than the centre today.

Ta, that is disappointing, I’ve been quietly impressed with Kewell so far but to deviate from a winning formula is odd.

He’s generally done well and deserves the benefit of the doubt, but that was about as wrong as I’ve seen a Notts manager get things tactically.

The signings that looked so impressive in the summer are now becoming more of a burden then a help IMO. Nolan lost his job trying to shoehorn more of them into the team than was realistic, and Kewell fell into the same trap today.

I particularly feel for Kane Hemmings who was hooked at half time having been shunted into about the 15th different position he’s played this season, having worked hard and contributed pretty well in all of them.

Wasn't there so can't really say but soon as I heard we were playing Thomas alarm bells rang. Every time we play an attacking formation we get tonked.
We're missing Milsom, Brisley isn't the answer but Hewitt needs more help than Thomas will provide.
Bury fans have been proven right, they said they'd been playing well and so it's proved.

Weak as piss midfield

Papering over cracks

Relegation fodder unless serious midfield reinforcements are made.

What has Kewell really changed?

Well he dug out some wins that his predecessor didn’t manage in more games. That’s a positive change

Having been to the game today, as good as we were, Notts were that bad I think you have to just take it as a bad day at the office. A couple of Notts players still looked fairly lively especially number 10 on the wings.

That said it was a real non-performance from Notts County, they never mounted any serious sustained pressure at any point, only the odd half chance followed by 10 minutes of Bury pressing.

It could have been more than 4, definitely.

The biggest difference for us this season compared to in league one is that we are actually winning the midfield battle more often than not, allowing us to dictate the game, this never used to happen in L1.

Stuff like this makes me think of Glyn Hurst. A striker that finished as our top scorer but only scored in about 6 games that season. When he did score, he scored 2 or 3 per game. So when he finished on 15 goals it looked ok. Just he’d contributed fuck all in pretty much every other game he’d played.

So far we are Glyn Hurst. Get the best out of us and we are good, rest of the time, piss poor.

Wasn’t so much a weak midfield today as literally no midfield. Hewitt the only player we had who is recognised as a central midfielder and even then he only converted from being a right back about a year ago. And was taken off at half time.

We miss Milsom horrendously, which is a pretty damning indictment of the situation in midfield because he’s, at best, just decent enough.

I would’ve liked to see us sign another defensive minded midfielder at the back end of the window rather than Turley and Evina, who are both alright but no better than what we already had.

Shouldn't have sacked Nolan is all, I'm sure he would've turned this mess around if he was given more time #pathetic

I don’t know what other word to use that is better than wrong to say how wrong this is.

Nolan is the bloke who spunked a shitload of the chairman’s money on the most unsuited league 2 squad in football history. We have 6 central midfielders who didn’t even make the squad today. And not one of them would have made a single difference to the result or performance.

We’ll clearly beat some of the real dross in this league, but anyone decent will do what Bury today did, or Exeter, Lincoln(why the fuck they couldn’t be arsed to score about 6 I’ll never know) and even Yeovil did with ease.

Do we really think Nolan had full control over the summer signings? It’s already been made very clear he wanted Collin but that was taken out of his hands. The switch to shitty taka was as also mandated, rather than chosen by Nolan.

Is this more entertaining than last year?

Are we entertained?

And don’t Focus on Collin, focus on the point about control

Who was actually in charge of the summer recruitment is a much discussed point, but to me the bloke in the manager’s office was Kevin Nolan and if he didn’t like who was being signed he should have said so. If he’d resigned he would have had a decent choice of jobs. Unlike now.

If Nolan was letting Hardy do his job then by definition he’s a shit manager.

You do realise that makes little sense and contributes almost nothing. Maybe cut back on the cheap lager before posting.

You’ve been very quiet recently until yesterday’s results#blessing

I’m interested, how are you so certain about all these points? You’ve got to be very close to Hardy , Nolan or someone of that ilk to know how much control anyone had over signings and style! Tell us more

You’ve had games against at least Bury, Oldham, Northampton and others during your ‘under a rock’ phase

What’s 8:30am got to do with it??? You posted on here and had your little amusing spat with Adam yesterday evening ! :ffs:Plenty of time to have had a few bargain cans on the sundeck.

Take Adam Stags free advice, “do some research, think more then post” :2thumb:

We've got a massive transfer window coming up in January. We could comfortably offload seven or eight players and not affect the first team. We have to get another central midfielder and a target man in to take the pressure of Stead.
I just hope we can stay within six or so points of the play offs to keep the season alive as anything other than yet another relegation scrapping season.

Nolan signed the players, he said so in a post sacking interview but also said Collin had to go to balance the books, ( off the record) apparantly. At a reported £3000 a week I think that's fair enough.
The real howler was letting Milsom and O'Connor go and signing the presumably expensive Vaughan. We've amassed a huge, expensive imbalanced squad that's carrying at least six of the wrong players for us.

A very good post. Although I’m a big fan of O’Connor , if you are bringing in Vaughan you don’t need both. And most of not all Notts fans thought that would be an upgrade understandably. So why wouldn’t the manager or chairman?

Milsom , although clearly not a first teamer last season, was required for balance in the squad and was discarded.

Nolan was a tad unfortunate nobody thought or predicated Fitz would be such a large drop off from Collin, so that couldn’t of been envisaged by anyone.

Some bad luck, some mistakes and a for chunk of money wasted. The story of our pre-season in hindsight.

The situation is gonna look even worse after Tues evening
