Yup, say what you like about Everton, but their ability to stay in the top flight deserves credit.

Keep with Martinez and relegation will beckon. Maybe not today or tomorrow but soon and for the rest of your life.

Actually, unless you want to ignore the quality lost with the likes of Suarez and Sterling, he's spent around £140m.

I like Everton and hope they do well, but I'll be surprised if they finish top 8 and I'm not convinced they'll even be top half.

Everton have finished outside the top eight once in nine years, I don't think it'd be surprising to see them finish within it again this year. Losing Baines for four months is a massive loss, mind.

You make a good point, but that "once" was the most recent season and key components of the previous campaigns are aging or gone: Howard, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Fellaini, Osman, Pineaar, etc. Combine this with the influx of TV money for average Prem sides and Everton have an uphill battle. If they lose Stones, their defence is poor (it was last season). It wouldn't shock me if Swansea, Palace, Stoke, and West Ham all finished ahead of them this season.

The increase in TV money for consistent PL sides is going to alter the league. I reckon title winners will barely break 80 points within a couple seasons.

I agree with the point regarding Stones and the quality of teams like Palace, Southampton, Swansea and Stoke ( not convinced by West Ham ). I feel Everton have the quality to match those teams though, especially if they add a few more names which I think looks likely.

No, they're not good enough at the back. Top four will be the same as last season.

United finishing top 4 with their current attacking ability will be almost as impressive as us finishing 2nd a few seasons back with the defence we had.

I fully expect Utd to come good.

Everton won't score the 100 goals in the league to even get close to top four with a leaky defence. If they had Baines fit then I'd see a case for pushing for it. That Galloway fella didn't look too happy yesterday.

Mental illness is something to be used as a reference now? This is getting more despicable by every passing post.

Retire son, keep intact your dignity.
The good old days, you were a proper dickhead to deal with for a mod.

No offense though, i quite like you these days.

Can't see it. They'll need to hang on to the likes of Stones and Coleman if they're to ever really progress into a team capable of challenging for the top 4 for a start. Can also someone tell me what others see in James McCarthy? He's tidy enough, sure, but so is Joe Allen. Massively over-rated by some in my opinion.

If they sell Coleman / Stones then I think they'll likely finish around mid-table.

Is 15th mid-table? They have maybe 5 actual defenders in the squad with Baines out. Galloway and Browning would be okay championship players. Lukaku will score some goals, but will breakdown good opportunities with his first touch. Barkley has a good shot and turns well, but he isn't particularly creative or athletic.

Obviously they'd replace Stones / Coleman, but I'd doubt that the replacements would be of similar quality.

This thread clearly isn't meant to be taken seriously, top 4 can obviously be dismissed regardless of who they keep or buy. If they keep Coleman and Stones, and other key players stay fit, I reckon they'll finish between 9th and 11th, basically a repeat of last season. Without them you can lower that to between 12th and 15th. Martinez simply isn't a particularly good manager. He did well in his debut season with Everton, but what we saw last time around is more of what should be expected from him. His formations, tactics and substitutions at times are downright fucking bizarre.

Barkley really needs to start kicking on now and have a good season. He has tons of ability but often goes missing and makes the wrong final decision more often than not.

He's probably one of the fastest midfielders in the Premiership

And Roy Hodgson has won more than both of them but I don't rate him either. A single FA Cup win in a relegation season doesn't make Martinez a better manager than Rodgers.

Barkley cries every morning when he wakes after realising his dream of being Philippe Coutinho was just that.

I think his ability to turn and accelerate is confused with pace. He's not a slouch, but I think his pace is overstated.
