Agree with both of you about Rory McArdle.

Good, solid, no-nonsense defender; excellent for Dale alongside Nathan Stanton, who supplied the pace and "nastiness" to the partnership.

I'd have him back, but I strongly suspect Scunny won't want Niall Canavan back in a swap deal...

How is Canavan doing with you guys? Came through our youths, as you know, flirted with Eire U21, but never quite grasped the future. Nice left foot, powerful, decent header too. BUT, there was something just missing. Lower league CB. We need someone with championship experience or young with the skill to play there and the nous to learn how to play there,

Nathan Stanton came back to us, as kit man.

This competition is becoming more tinpot by the round.

In the first round Charlton are drawn out twice, now this round we're drawn at home but are actually away.

Shambles.

It's OK, they've brought in Rod Stewart to help with the draw for the next round.

Tends to make cock ups. Gives away free kicks and penalties, and collects yellow cards. Otherwise very decent. Needs to improve his concentration.

Was just thinking that you could have been writing about either Canavan or McArdle here.

Both are solid L1 level defenders, both are prone to mistakes but both seem to suffer from lapses in concentration. Canavan has become a target for a a couple of keyboard warriors. I would rate Rory as slightly better though, but not sure I'd have been giving him a 3 year deal as Scunny have done.

I'd have either of them ahead of Jim McNulty though who takes the art of making mistakes to a new level.

Wait till you see Calamity Jack Baldwin. Once touted as our next multi million sale he now looks like a rabbit in the headlights, gives away daft penalties for fun and never seems to know what colour we play in.

Norwich for us, I don't expect a result and nor do I really care, though it'd be nice to go on a run for once.

Thank you! Will attempt to do so... more is good.

1-1 at half time, not doing badly so far.

Cracking defensive performance at Fulham. Perfect away result.

Swansea didn't play by the rules. They turned up with a near full strength team and we played our ressies - isn't it meant to be the other way round?

1-4 flattered us to be fair. That Abraham lad is not bad.

Hull effectively played their youth team so would have been very disappointed to lose. We don't get big team away draws.

I guess we stopped doing okay after my last post. Oh well! Rather have three points on Saturday anyway.

Big learning curve for a lot of our youngsters last night.

4-1 does seem harsh but sounded like we were just punished for that inexperience and that extra quality in front of goal.

Not overly bothered as much as a little run would have been nice but as Robinson rightly said "I'll start taking this cup seriously when they start taking the draw seriously". A few days later they announce the draw will be made at 4.15am!

The whole competition is turning into bit of a joke.

Can we draw the shit or is that not possible ?

Don't think the next round is regionalised or seeded. The 2nd round isn't usually either, it's only because West Ham and Newport couldn't play at home so they had to be separated so as not to draw each other.

So I would say there is every chance of getting to visit the brand spanking new Ashton Gate :cool1:

Hey if we scrap this cup then we can spend longer playing the formal B teams instead. Great news

Really poor show from Scunthorpe at Middlesboro on Tuesday night. Never in the game after the first 15 mins had passed, as we were played off the park. Felt like a pre-season friendly rather than a cup match. Middlesboro were far superior to us, but we played gutless and with a lack of will. We will need to change this apparent lack of interest when we get back to League One action. Big gulf in class between the 2 sides and hopefully this will show everyone (including the chairman and manager) that we not equipped for promotion in the unlikely event it were to happen.
