ah come on even I know the actual ManU captain.

btw: CBA to google it but is this really the first time since the inception of the Champions League format that the 4 teams in the semi finals are from 4 different leagues?

We most certainly are not
Yes we are, I've been saying it all season, they struggle if Messi isn't on his game, they are too reliant on him; and that defense is worse than ours when we started this CL campaign. They began to play some nice stuff after the winter break when Suarez kicked on after having a woeful first half of the season, but overall they have been very pragmatic.

We are a more balanced side than them.

I'm trying to think in its first season didn't Rangers make it to the semi's to face eventual winners Marseille, and Milan were in the other semi, I just don't know who they faced and I used to watch them a lot back then.

Edit : Scrub all that, just reading up on it now, they had a group stage format and the winners of the groups went to the final - bonkers.

This reeks of jealousy. I genuinely wouldn't know who your captain is without googling it, such is your current lack of identity as a club.
I had to google who the Liverpool captain as well. I just find it interesting that Real have faced PSG, Juve, and Bayern, and (if they beat Bayern) they'll face Liverpool who most would agree aren't as good as those three.

I've had a look back as I couldn't believe that this could be the case and... well, the answer is no, but it certainly hasn't happened often in recent times.

I think the only years since the turn of the century are 2010 (Bayern Munich, Lyon, Inter, Barca) and 2004 (Monaco, Chelsea, Porto, Deportivo).

Inception - end of the 90s is a completely different story. There were always semi finalists from four different nations in those years but it was obviously a very different tournament back then as it was solely for league winners until major league runners up began to be admitted towards the end of the decade.

Christ. First of all he overrates virtually every player who's ever worn a Liverpool shirt, and now we're better than Barcelona. Good old Saltire, always good for a chuckle, even for a fellow Liverpool fan.

You don't know our club captain is Hendo? For all the stick he gets from everyone, I thought it would be common knowledge by now. I actually don't know who Utd's is just now - Fellaini? ;)

At this moment in time we are, it probably won't be the case next season when they sign Griezmann, and Coutinho & Dembele get up to speed; but just now, I'd back us to win 9 games out of 10 against this current Barca.

Big Balls Salts, doubling down like a big boss.

First Liverpool are better than Barca, then they are that much better that they'd win 90% of games against them.

I like it.

The Paranoid Pineapple : Thanks for looking into this, TPP. As I wrote I couldn't be arsed to do it myself. Appreciated. So it isn't so "unique" as I thought but still...... a good sign. Only one LaLiga team (although the most disliked here....you should've watched the Bayern vs Sevilla match, although there were no own goals to celebrate in the boring 0-0 match, the crowd really roared when Juve scored 3 times during the other match and you already knew that it wasn't Real who scored....but in the end the "usual" outcoming, unfortunately)

Do you think Manchester United would win 10/10 against Barcelona then, as without getting carried away by your excellent Champions League campaign, you’re still four points behind Mourinho’s team, and they have a game in hand.

Can I kindly request that no one take Saltire's posts on this matter seriously. He in no way represents sensible Liverpool fans.

They've shown they aren't ready for the Champions League just yet, so no, they wouldn't win 10/10, especially as Mourinho would be happy drawing half their games against them.

That's your problem there Paggy, always wanting to downplay us, tell us all how most of our players are crap when they are not and how we have no chance of winning anything. Are you sure you are a Liverpool fan, you don't act like one. ;)

But the point is: You aren’t better than Manchester United (although it’s tight) let alone Barcelona.

Klopp said when he came in that we have to believe; it's took a while, and with all our failures this last decade we were at a low ebb; but we do now. Still need work done, but I don't think we are far off domestically, and have shown we can compete in Europe.

If you believe that fine, I don't, due to several reasons that I don't have time to get into just now with the game on. You honestly think this Man Utd under this manager would win 10/10 against Barca? Do you watch them play? :D

Of course I don’t think Manchester United will beat Barcelona 10/10 times, but I’m not the one claiming Liverpool to be a level above Barcelona.

Nope. Unlike you I simply see us for what we are, rather than what I wish us to be.

Bayern was the side I didn't want, under Heynckes he has got them much more solidified and just bloody better again. As for Roma, yep I'm not underestimating them, I watched them a lot last season when they had Salah, and they were excellent, and apparently this new coach is wringing the best out of them. Also we have to take a healthy lead to the Olympico, as their place will be bouncing on the night.

Yeah but we'd be underdogs.

Anyway, when it comes to "the better team" it's clear that you need to separate league form from cup/Champions league. Being able to go far in the Champions league is about having a very high highest level, and reaching it at the right time. Winning the league is about having a very high lowest level.

The table doesn't lie, I agree, but when it comes to saying "X team is ahead of Y in the league, therefore team X is better than team Y" is flawed to some extent. It measures something slightly different than "who'd fair better against this team". United are better than us in the league, yet I'd back us to beat Barca/Real/any of the European giants more often than them. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Imagine this place if Liverpool do go on to win a sixth European Cup.

Just imagine it.
