Just finding that out about Villa fans are you ? Media's still trying to portray them as what they're NOT. (the OPPOSITE of their attitude to Newcastle. Even now the media are trying to sow discord - they're furious Newcastle are where they are saying "Benitez to replace Wenger". As if Arsenal would replace Wenger with someone same age, rejected by Chelsea and Liverpool)
Odd many Newcastle fans came back from Leeds saying everyone got on well with Leeds fans. Fellow travellers and all that. Good wishes even exchanged.
Opposite of Villa fans attitude. Still think its 2009.....
funny that our fans said the same about Leeds. still bitter about villa i see.

Yep that is correct Arsenal beat you 1 - 0 in the Final after also beating GTFC 1 - 0 in the Semi Final.
I remember Grimsby in the second division when I was growing up or am I wrong? When i was a young un three of my bedroom walls were all villa but the other one used to be random teams which included a Grimsby town squad photo. Match and shoot, those were the days.

I don't know how old you are so not sure what era you are talking but we were second tier from 1980 - 1987, 1991-1997 and 1998-2003. Unfortunately for us ITV Digital going bust left us with debts of over 2M which started our downhill spiral as we couldn't afford to pay players and had to get rid of most of our best ones followed by the inevitable relegation. (And relegated again season after).

True but at least it makes you appreciate it more, 6 years in non league before this season makes being in League 2 feel great to be honest, although being 4-0 down at Crewe yesterday after half an hour wasn't the greatest feeling!
Thankfully my lad has only ever known us in non league (he's 10) so for him this is the highest League he has ever known us be in so he is totally hooked on GTFC and thinks it's great, and seeing his happy face at Wembley last year was one of the best feelings I've ever had in my life so even though it was 6 years of torture, it ended with one of the greatest most euphoric days I have ever experienced. :bg1:

Ha.....

Nah just think some of our lot have finally grown a pair.
our lot at blues were a disgrace. By all accounts even our own fans said we were embarrassingly bad. So Leeds had 2400 at ours and not 2800. Our away allocation this year seems to be a tad confusing.

Thought they would have gone by now but suppose there's not much left to play for now so hard to generate any sort of buzz.

Think we've shifted over 2k for Fulham.

Received another allocation now, 162. Only a handful of restricted view left.

It's a novelty for Villa though, not for Leeds, same grounds year in Year out, if you're down here any length of time I doubt you'll match em.
Ah, that n word again. The Premier League had no novelty factor for us. Yet we were selling out away game after away game for over twenty seasons with ticket prices £35 - £55 a pop, at grounds we visited every year. And with consistently one of the worst away records.
As proved with the fact you can't sell out Newcastle, why? Because it's a ground you go to every year. Leeds and us and others to an extent have been down here for years going to the same shitty grounds (no disrespect meant but none compare to St James) year in Year out and still take decent numbers. Yes you have had good numbers this season but would you if you had played these "little teams" for 10 years? The obvious answer is no, as you can't sell out at Newcastle (everyone else's biggest game, even Rotherham sold out) for that very reason. Don't get me wrong Im not knocking your away support, but think if you had been down here for as long as some of us, your numbers would be nearer ours than Leeds. Also I know you will say you are shit, but you are alot better than many of us have been, for many years.
Or disproved by the 10,000 that travelled to Cardiff, Spurs and Wolves in the space of thirteen days just after Christmas. Grounds we've visited before or indeed frequented - in the case of the latter two. Likewise the 5000 we'll take to Wigan, like every time we play them, the full allocations at Blackburn, Fulham, Reading and QPR, like every time we play them, makes the novelty talk nonsensical and not at all based in fact. We've proven ourselves over numerous seasons, at the same grounds, paying higher ticket prices than in the Championship.

As for St James', it's a stadium we never travel particularly well at. I believe we've had one Saturday 3pm there in the last decade; the majority being Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays. The 2000 that travel to Newcastle points towards consistency of support; no more and no less than our average at SJP over the last ten years. Nothing to do with novelty.

Put simply, we've got good away support, and have had for many years. That's all there is to it.

We do have good away support but we are no Leeds or Everton. The other season I was part of a villa following that failed to sell out the initial allocation for a Saturday game at Everton. The full is 2900 but we only took the 1800 allocation and we only sold 1700 of that. We were dog shit that season again mind.
