Just had a quick glance over the last 10 years and they seem to have a higher average. The Elm Park years were low crowds, but with the new stadium and premiership football, it's no surprise.

Of course they do, they have a new stadium, and have been successful in recent years. We were playing in an old decrepit that could seat 19,000, it's not hard to see why. No we're up with the times we're getting more through the gate regardless of league position as you'd expect. This season will be our first 20k+ since the 80s by my reckoning providing we don't fall off a cliff in the next month or so.

Weird that. our home crowds are down for some reason, and our away support, although still very good, has dropped a bit. If we were doing shit again, then fair enough, but we are having a decent season.

Our home crowds are way up but the away support certainly isn't. We will get a higher home average than Wednesday but way behind on the away average.

You don't know anything about our attendances do you? We averaged 2,000 more than them last season for the first season in a while that we've had the ground to do so, we finished 17th they finished 3rd. We also never went below 10k even when bottom of L1 23 games winless. Whatever you say though.

Must be the only achievement City have had to savour recently, getting higher attendances than little old Reading. A city with nearly triple the population averaging 2,000 more than a provincial town that competes with London.

I've been to Ashton Gate in the 90s when you had sub 10,000 attendances, just like we had at Elm Park, so I would get off your high horse.

I thought there was a good few thousand that didn't attend at the lane on Friday. What about arsenal last week no way was there 30k in the ground and I think it got given as 54k

Just seems strange to me that so many thousands would fork out an arm and a leg for a season ticket and then not go. Not a dig at Reading fans in particular, I just can't get my head round it. If you pick and choose games depending on weather/form/TV then fair enough but why buy a season card.

I think it depends on just how much you save buy buying a season ticket, maybe some people can't do night games for whatever reason but it might still work out better value over the season to get a season ticket and just miss the night games.
I only suggest this as I know 2 supporters of us who have season tickets but work nights but it still works out cheaper than paying for every Saturday game, and also they say it guarantees them a ticket should we get a plum draw in any of the cups which is quite funny as since we got back in the league we've been knocked out in the first round of every cup we've been in before the big boys are even in them.

Our attendances were historically poor, although 59 years in the football league with only one promotion may have taken it's toll!..

And please stop acting like me are massively overachieving right now.. we were the perennial almost club in Div3 historically.. 54 out of our 90 seasons in the football league we have been what would now be a bottom half Championship / top half League One club in league finishing. Not too dissimilar to yourself.

It is funny that you single us out in particular as you know we are one of only 4 or 5 clubs currently in this league that you are bigger than and can lord over... All statements you have thrown at us there are countless other clubs that could say the same about you.

Happens all the time. I think nowadays almost every club reports the tickets sold rather than actual attendances. We just have the rare occurrence here where both appear to have been made public.

We have over 10,000 season ticket holders so would be impossible to have sub-10k home fans as tickets sold..

Tv plays a huge part, you've already paid for the season ticket months ago so it doesn't feel as though you are losing money if you don't go. In readings case especially they aren't do too well so the idea of just watching it at home on tv or making the effort on a Monday night can become quite an easy one to choose tv.

Because he said "not too dissimilar to yourselves" trying to include Reading in that L1/Championship yo-yo bracket. We've spent 50 years in the Championship and 45 in L1, whereas they've spent nearly 3 times longer in League One than the Championship.

Well no, but it's difficult with so many premier league clubs within such a short distance, especially when the people of Preston would rather sit in a pub watching United or Liverpool than actually go to a match.

With the size of Bristol and the lack of any sort of big clubs anywhere near you, you really should average far more than you do.

So, that means that 15% of the Bristolian population attend, maybe 1% less factoring in away fans, whereas only 9%, again actually 1% less to factor away fans of the population of Preston attend.

I don't wear the "on the doorstep of big club" bollocks, you think that doesn't happen in Bristol? We've been shite for most of our existence, there were more Liverpool shirts sold than Bristol City or Rovers shirts in Bristol in 2016. Load of bollocks.

To be fair, the quoted Bristol population is just the city council area and not Bristol as a whole. It's nigh on double that if not more in greater Bristol.
I don't get attendance arguments TBH. If it was with someone who doesn't go then fair enough but if a person actually watched their team, what's the point?
