The metropolitan area of Bristol is over a million with hardly any clubs in the area, both clubs should be getting big crowds but it all comes down to sustained success, which they haven't had for one reason or an other.

I think the metropolitan area of Preston is about 350,000 and we're surrounded by football clubs, I reckon our crowds are about right to be honest, look at Blackburn's considering they spent so long in the top flight. Burnley only had 19k on last night and they're 4th in the Prem.

Has the club not been up for sale since he lost that court case the other month?

Who the fuck wants it?...

It sounds more impressive if you put "We spent 37 years in the top flight, pre Premier League days", this shortens the amount of years and also it bypasses the whole Premiership Never Ever thing.
Oh right yeah, forgot history was irrelevant to club size, apologies. I probably shouldn't even reply to you, last time we conversed you nearly had a seizure on Twitter and blocked me...

Madejski you're well touchy nowadays, but I shall respond.

Yeah, your fans are known for being shit home and even more so away around these parts.

You are also massively overachieving. You have spent 8 years in division 2, 56 years in division three, 23 in division 2 and only 3 in division one. That is compared with our 2, 45, 49 and 9 in the same order.

We are bigger than Reading, as are most of the division, but given you're going to make stupid statements about only 4/5 clubs being smaller than us please do make a case for any of these clubs being a bigger club than us:

Burton
Brentford
Reading
Barnsley
QPR
Millwall
Hull
Preston

Cheers.

Fucking hell, cop a load of your arrogance. Reading have finished above you for the last 20 years, achieved higher attendances in that period and have reached the Premier League twice, the first with a record points haul that City will never get near. You are a big club, but don't kid yourself that after one good season (so far) and a new stadium (that you struggle to fill most weeks), that you're any bigger than Reading, or even (at a push) QPR for that matter.

Of course football didn't start in 1992 and I grew up watching absolute shite at Elm Park in the Third Division, so I make no bones that we're a small club, but it was hardly like Bristol City were giants in that period.

Christ, let me dissect this state.

Not true is it.

achieved higher attendances in that period
Again, as a comparison year vs year, not true is it.

You are a big club
Thanks. I wouldn't say so at this level, just bigger than Reading.

Ashton Gate is 75%+ full nearly every week.

The same QPR that average about 11,000 home fans and again have spent more of their history in L1 than any other league like yourselves. They're sinking again now and their crowds are going with it, our crowds are on the up and we've been wank since the 80s.

I don't think City are a big club, not at all. Just bigger than the ones I mentioned. Our stadium is bigger than both of yours and for yourselves we take nearly 15k more to Wembley for a Pisspot final than you do for a Championship play-off final. How's that for a cockwave?

It's hard to argue with delusions of grandeur, JJH. The fact of the matter is that Reading and QPR have been in the Premier League, whilst Bristol City haven't.

4,000 at this time of year, in a fixture that is played pretty much every season for the last 20 years is very good going.

JJH, now you're making up statistics to try and prove your point..

How did you manage to get 15k more fans to Wembley than us, considering your full allocation was 39k? It was never announced how many tickets we sold, other than 32k sold after 48 hours, and was members only / not general sale.

It was our third trip to Wembley in six years, so hardly a fairly comparison, and we have always (even in 1988) taken 30k+ on our visits there.

Also it is irrelevant, as we can't really take Wembley attendances seriously as it is a massive inflation of fair-weather fans. Where are your 39k fans, or our 34k fans now?

"Of course football didn't begin in 1992" "Bristol City haven't been in the Premier League" you've contradicted yourself there mate.

What the fuck are you on about? There were 20,000 seats unoccupied in the stadium, as if they'd just cap our allocation at 39k and leave shit loads of seats unsold. We had 43,000 there, you had circa 30,000. Tell me where I have "made up a statistic" if you wouldn't mind.

It must be the 2 year gap we've had, it's like a fucking lifetime for us both that.

Prove it then? If you are going to quote this as fact, you must have a source to claim as much.

All I could find in quick searching was Bristol City had announced sales of 37k after a few days of sales (with general sales).

Reading announced 29k sold after the first day of sales (no general sales), and according to our local papers we had 3000 tickets remaining of our 38k allocation going into the final day of sales.

Good effort from the blades that.

Ah, the pre premier league years, when only Liverpool had won more major trophies than villa, up until the start of the premier league.

72,315 the attendance, the highest ever for a JPT final. Walsall had 28,000 which was outstanding also.

You genuinely have me beyond words though, thinking they'd just cap our allocation at 39,000 despite the ground being 1/5th empty.

And the proof that we only sold 25k? (15k less than 40k)

I'm not necessarily doubting your sales, I'm doubting your statement of selling 15k more...

That's only if you don't include charity shields, which I certainly don't, because it's not a major honour. Crazy when you think about it really. Most of our trophies were won before the wars, only 8 major trophies after the wars ended. In a way we have underachieved massively.

I said nearly 15,000. 43,000 to 30,000 isn't far off.

I've known blues take 50k to Wembley, and wolves supposedly took around 60k against Grimsby I believe it was.

Two attendance figures that you can't provide any proof of...

I'll help you out from a Reading point of view..
http://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/s...inal_tickets_on_general_sale_until_3pm_today/
"It is believed an estimated 3,000 tickets remain unsold for the clash against Huddersfield Town at Wembley on Monday (3pm ko). Reading's initial allocation of 38,000 was increased slightly earlier this week, and a number are still available to buy before this afternoon's deadline."

Huddersfield sold 38k, and the total attendance was 76k.

Very surprised at that I knew you were up there, you have definitely underachieved since the prem started then, I'd of had you down as a good club to buy too with being in Birmingham and already being one of the bigger clubs in the country. Painful how lucky Chelsea and city have been with the owners considering they are or were just 2 mediocre clubs.

Leeds Utd are a complete one off as a club. Spent most of their years out of the top flight, only 5 major honours to their name, was a complete nothing club up until the mid 60s, but are rightly considered a very big club.

You find your figure then, you should know where to look. It was well established at the time the number we took at the time, blademan89 or SoutheySWFC will remember.

Yep, you could say at the start of the prem we were huge, champions of Europe 10 years earlier, runners up 1990 and 1993. Our biggest crime was going so long without a league title from 1910 up until 1981. Same with the fa cup, from 1920 up until 1957,and we are still waiting for another fa cup to come along since 1957. Once the European cup gathered momentum we were in a bad state, so that damaged us too. The 60s which was a golden time for English football was a bad time in our history. In that time you had the rise of Leeds united which to this day is the reason why they have such a big national fanbase.
