Loads of good pubs not far from the ground, all real ale ones too. Think Wigan has the most Breweries per head than anywhere in the country. So if you like making an away game a day out and having a few drinks and a bite to eat then Wigan is ideal. Great transport links as well being the only place on both the North to South and West to East mainline railway. No doubt cheapest tickets in the league too. Wigan regularly gets voted footballs best away day, won it again this season.
I don't understand the ground is shite bit, I can understand people preferring old grounds like Hillsborough, Elland Road etc have they have a lot of character, that's fair enough. But the DW offers good views so in terms of watching the match, which is what you go into the ground for and facilities at the Stadium are very good too, even have a huge function room for away fans in the away end, holds about 1,000. It's good going to some old famous stadiums but as soon as you're behind a big pole and can't see a thing, no matter how much character a ground has it soon starts to grate on you.
