I've been really impressed with Luton's approach to this competition, they've really led the way in the protest and developed several young players to boot. If Luton could be arsed to take this to a tribunal beyond the FL (it's only £15k so probably not worth it), it'd make an interesting court case.

I'd like Luton to keep playing their youths and to keep getting through, build up the fines (and the winnings to cover it) then take it to court when there's a decent "prize" at stake. I'm sure they'd win it.

Gary Sweet has just said that we're "big boys and we'll accept fine", although didn't flatly deny that they won't appeal. They'll "file it under education and development for our younger players." I think we're just happy for the EFL to make themselves look stupid.

I know I'm biased, but in my opinion, if there was ever a leadership challenge to Shaun Harvey next summer, Gary should be top of the list. He leads, in my opinion, the best board of directors in the lower divisions.

Formerly the head of the Luton supporters trust, so he knows full well what traditional supporters want. He forced the club into administration when it was being run by a crook, lead the consortium which led us out of another mess, was an integral part of the Conference board and frankly likes to rock the boat! The club have also backed every single manager with finance, built up the club's reputation and become trailbrazers for paying the living wage to all employees and naming the stadium after a charity partner.

Will be interesting to hear Nathan Jones take on this, when it was mentioned to him that we might get fined for his selection of youth players he almost took it as a personal affront to his players (he LOVES them dont you know) that they were being treated or viewed in any way lesser than the PL Academy boys and offered to pay the fine himself. I imagine he will be absolutely furious about this and may push Sweet to take it further.

I do worry about Nate's health; this might send him over the edge!

Was this competition meant to encourage the development of under 21 players yet Luton and Pompey get fined for fielding an under 21 team? You couldn't make it up.

It was designed to develop Category 1 academies only. The Premiershit couldn't give a monkeys about lower league kids, any more than we give a stuff about theirs - stockpiled as they are. Very pleasing that Luton's kids beat West Brom's counterparts but ... The likes of Accy were also vociferously against this nonsense yet, like others (including us), they can't afford a £15k fine. Do we applaud the 'richer, bigger' lower league clubs or the 'poorer, smaller' clubs who argue their case in committee rooms?

Making no apologies for stating this again but the majority of L1 & L2 clubs voted for this shite - fans need to keep up the pressure on their own clubs. Harvey OUT!

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
To be honest the fines I knew were coming and clubs took their risk.

The real ridiculous part of this competition has been the so called academy sides who a lot of the time played anything but English youth.

Stoke the best when slagging everyone off last week who critised the cup, claimed it a good thing for youth.....then played about 2 English youth in their game.

Those sides should also have a ban for fielding reserve, not youth sides

Sorry, that its correct that they're deducting it from the prize money.
I really wish that we had followed Luton's lead in this and then all laughed at the EFL as they tried to deduct £15000 from our total prize money of......... £0.00.

Well I certainly understand why many would be reluctant, but this is already getting national media coverage so if fans were to pay off those fines it would no doubt be all over the press and make for (even more) uncomfortable exposure for the EFL leadership.

I genuinely laughed at that.

Can't see us taking anymore than 20.

Though i've always maintained it's a free world on whether fans attend these games, I find it bizarre that someone would want to travel to Carlisle on a tuesday night for this cup, especially after just playing them.

Nice though Carlisle was, the chances of me going to this game are 0

We're away at Carlisle.

Not going, mainly as i've got sense, its Christmas, I was there the other weekend, i've work, it's cold and dark.

Mainly, i'm just not going as the competition is a fucking joke.

That is all

As a youthful Ian Brown once whispered in to a microphone - this is the one.

Few hundred people under the lights, watching the stiffs in the wind and the freezing rain, the prize of meeting Brighton u21's in an empty Wembley in the springtime; Germany, Spain, Italy, France and the biggest leagues in the world, can only dream of such footballing depth,........in between picking up World Cups and European Championships.

We've made 10 changes from the weekend and the one remaining guy was subbed at half time and will almost certainly not start the next league game. Obviously not a single shit given about the fines still.

Whatever happens, we're going to break even at least. £20,000 for the winners tonight.

Oh and we're now winning 2-1... McQuoid x2
